A Prayer for Nigeria
Heavenly Father,
We lift our nation, Nigeria, before You. You are the God who sees, who judges righteously, and who defends the innocent. Your word declares, โThe Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of troubleโ (Psalm 9:9). Today, we ask that the days of oppression in our land come to a swift and final end.
Lord, arise and let every agent of darkness, every force fueling violence, bloodshed, and the persecution of the innocent, meet their expected end. As You dealt with Pharaoh and his armies when they pursued Your people (Exodus 14:26โ28), let every perpetrator of evil and every hidden sponsor of wickedness be brought low. Put an end to their schemes and frustrate their devices (Job 5:12).
Father, we also pause to reflect. Your word says, โIf my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray, seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and heal their landโ (2 Chronicles 7:14). Lord, search our hearts. Purify our motives. Redirect our paths. Realign us with Your righteousness. Let Your mercy speak over judgment.
We pray for peace; true peace. Peace across tribes, across communities, across every corner of Nigeria. Let the Prince of Peace Himself reign here (Isaiah 9:6). Restore harmony, unity, and brotherhood among us again.
Grant God-sent leaders the wisdom, courage, discernment, and integrity needed to bring sustainable change. Guide them as You guided Solomon, who asked for wisdom to lead Your people, and received it in abundance (1 Kings 3:9โ12). Surround them with righteous counsel and shield them from corruption and compromise.
And Lord, we cry out for the release of all kidnapped girls and every innocent person held in captivity.
Your Word declares that โthe captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be deliveredโ (Isaiah 49:25). By Your mighty hand, break chains, confuse their captors, send help, open escape routes, and sovereignly orchestrate their freedom. Let testimonies rise from the ashes of despair. Protect them where they are, strengthen their spirits, keep their minds, and bring them home.
Finally, Father, we commit the innocent victims, those who have suffered loss, pain, fear, and trauma. Wrap them in Your comfort. Heal their wounds. Restore their joy. Let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard their hearts and minds (Philippians 4:7). Strengthen every grieving family and uphold every survivor with Your unfailing love.
God bless Nigeria. God heal Nigeria. God restore Nigeria. Amen.
