TOPIC: FAITH THAT WORKS OUT DELIVERANCE FROM AFFLICTION.
TEXT: MARK 5:33–34
“But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell before Him and told Him all the truth. And He said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.” (Mark 5:33–34)
When we talk about affliction, what quickly comes to mind is the inability to attain a good standard of living. We define affliction as living a life of wretchedness, hopelessness, and helplessness. Yes, all these definitions are correct.
However, someone may have money, food, affluence, and influence, yet still live under the bo***ge of a particular affliction—just like the woman with the issue of blood in our text. She had money, but spent all she had on her ailment without finding a solution.
But for how long should a child of God remain under the bo***ge of affliction?
In this passage, there were miracles of healing and raising the dead. These miracles were done publicly, and many people witnessed them. The woman with the issue of blood was not the one who invited Jesus to her house.
Rather, one of the rulers of the synagogue came to Jesus and pleaded with Him to come and lay His hands on his bedridden daughter. But along the way, the woman with the issue of blood interrupted the moment and received her healing because she had purposed in her heart that if only she could touch the hem of His garment, she would be made whole.
The revelation here is this: the ruler of the synagogue believed that Jesus needed to come into his house and lay hands on his child before she could be healed. But the faith of the woman with the issue of blood was different. She believed that merely touching the hem of Jesus’ garment would make her whole.
Her affliction left her because of her level of faith, which proved stronger and more immediate in action. Though both eventually received what they desired, one obtained her miracle before the other.
Listen carefully: your level of faith determines when you come out of that particular affliction in your life. It is possible to see others with the same problem sharing testimonies while your own situation remains unchanged.
You may attend the same prayer programmes, vigils, and church services, and remain under affliction. God is not partial, and He is not to be blamed. You need to examine your level of faith.
Perhaps you are waiting for a renowned pastor to invite you into his office for seven days of prayer and fasting before your affliction can be removed, whereas the young pastor beside you only needs to lay hands on you, and instantly your affliction is settled. The timing of your healing is greatly connected to your level of faith in Christ Jesus.
Lord, increase our faith in You and take away every affliction tormenting our lives in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
“Then He took the child by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Little girl, I say unto thee, arise. And straightway the girl arose and walked; for she was twelve years of age. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.” (Mark 5:41–42)
The woman with the issue of blood had something in common with the little girl who died. The woman had carried her affliction for twelve years, and the little girl was also twelve years old. No matter how long you have lived with any ailment, bo***ge, or affliction, it becomes a thing of the past the moment you encounter Jesus.
Call upon Him today and exercise your faith in His resurrection power, and your life shall be made free from every affliction.
