TOPIC:
WHEN 'I LOVE YOU' ISN'T ENOUGH

MEMORISE

Bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another, even as Christ forgave you, so you must do (Colossians 3:13).

READ:
Colossians 3:12-15

[1]. Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;

[13]. bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.

[14]. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.

[15]. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

EXPOSITION

Love dispels fear and distrust and covers multitude of sins (1 Jn. 4:18). Genuine love sets us free from grudges towards others and this is the best way to forgive them. Love is the primary source of peace in all places where it exists -- home, church, work, etc. Promises of love with ulterior motives and fed with lies can never make for lasting peace.

While love fulfils all things (1 Cor. 13:1-4), application involves other virtues like forgiveness, patience, tolerance and pursuit of peace -- Jesus' true characteristics. God embodies love (1 Jn. 4:8). A direct consequence is that no one can claim to know Him while hating others.

Many declare affection but fall short of acceptance and forgiveness for others' imperfections. Do you love others despite their flaws and imperfections? What is your tolerance threshold? Do you let go of resentment soon? The Bible tells us to be friendly to one another and forgive one another as Christ did (Col. 3:13). Our words of love should go hand in hand with deeds of forgiveness and kindness.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Thank You, Lord, for Your unfailing love revealed through Christ's sacrifice for my sins.

2. Lord Jesus, I commit to showing Your love through forgiveness, tolerance, forbearance, peace and unity.

3. Lord, guide our youths to discern true love from lust, as they approach marriage.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY

S M

1. "Love him who's thy neighbour"
It is the Lord's command
He made Himself an example
By the way He loved us.

2. "Love him who's thy neighbour"
Whether in peace or war
He taught us to love all our foes,
Repay evil with good.

3. "Love him who's thy neighbour"
The Lord's voice trumpets still
So, all of us ought to prepare
To love all our neighbours.

4. "Love him who's thy neighbour"
And those living next door
Those that are in your neighbourhood
And all your enemies.

5. To love our neighbours as
Jesus Himself loved us
Jesus loved all His enemies
And blessed and prayed for them.

Amen.

JESUS BEFORE YOU!

MEMORISE

Now Jesus stood before the governor. And the governor asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?” Jesus said to him, “It is as you say.” (Matthew 27:11).

READ:
Matthew 27: 11-14

[11]. Now Jesus stood before the governor. And the governor asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?” Jesus said to him, “It is as you say.”

[12]. And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He answered nothing.

[13]. Then Pilate said to Him, “Do You not hear how many things they testify against You?”

[14]. But He answered him not one word, so that the governor marveled greatly.

EXPOSITION

We often rush to judge others, even when we are guilty of similar wrongs. However, the Bible warns us, _Judge not that you be not judged_ (Matt 71). Just as Pilate had Jesus Christ in his courtroom awaiting trial, we also imagine Jesus before us, awaiting interrogation, our submission, justification, or condemnation. As Pilate's judgement was awaited by Jesus, He watches to see how we will respond to him. Will we set Jesus free from His accusers or contribute to His crucifixion?

Through our actions, lack of love, and disrespect for God's work, we condemn and crucify Jesus repeatedly. This is regrettable. Aren't we denying, betraying and crucifying Him with our Christian lives? Even today, we subject our Lord to malicious accusations and questioning through our questionable behaviour, even amidst a decaying world. Your submission, love, respect and kindness can rescue Jesus, so to say, from His malicious accusers. Let us not deny Him justice. He deserves better from us all (cf. CAC GHB 680).

PRAYER POINTS

1. Thank God for the work of salvation and the privilege to come before His throne of grace and mercy

2. Lord Jesus, I commit to being wholly Yours. I won't cooperate with Your enemies to crucify You again.

3. Jesus, grant every believer the grace to submit to Your Lordship, showing You pure love and kindness.

L M

1. There's one above all earthly friend
Whose love all earthly love transcends,
It is my Lord and Christ divine,
My Lord because, I know He's mine.
I know He's mine, this friend so dear,
He lives with me He's ever near.
Ten thousand charms, around Him shine,
And, best of all, I know He's mine.

2. He's mine because He die for me
He saved my soul, He set me free,
With joy I worship at His shrine,
And cry, "Praise God," I know He's mine.

3. He's mine because He's in my heart,
And never, never will we part,
Just as the branch is to the vine,
I'm joined to Christ, I know He's mine.

4. Some day upon the street of gold
Mine eyes His glory shall behold
Then while His arms around me twine,
I'll cry for joy, "I know He's mine."

Amen
