Why Do Catholics Call Mary “Mother of God”?

It’s a question many people ask: How can Mary be the Mother of God when God has no beginning?

The answer takes us straight to the heart of who Jesus is.

Mary did not create God or give Jesus His divine nature. Rather, the child she conceived and gave birth to is Jesus Christ—the eternal Son of God who became man. That is why the Church calls Mary Mother of God (Theotokos). (CCC 495, 508–511)

So when we honour Mary, we are ultimately proclaiming the truth about Jesus. ❤️

How Did Jesus Become Man?

The eternal Son of God became man by the power of the Holy Spirit and through the “yes” of Mary. ✨

At the Annunciation, Mary trusted God and responded:

“Let it be to me according to your word.”
— Luke 1:38

The Catechism teaches that Jesus was conceived in Mary’s womb by the power of the Holy Spirit and that He is truly the Son of God and truly human. (CCC 484–511)

Mary’s “yes” reminds us that God invites, but He never forces. He can work through an ordinary life that is freely surrendered to Him.

What is God asking you to say “yes” to today?

🙏 This week’s challenge: Pray slowly three times:

“Let it be to me according to your word.”

Then ask: “Lord, where are You inviting me to trust You more?”

Was Jesus Really Human?

We know Jesus is God. But did He really experience human life as we do?

Yes.

The Catholic Church teaches that Jesus Christ is truly God and truly man. He did not pretend to be human or simply appear human—He truly took on our human nature while remaining the eternal Son of God. (CCC 464–483)

Jesus knew hunger.
He knew tiredness.
He wept.
He suffered.
He loved with a human heart.

And that’s beautiful news for us.

Because whatever you are carrying today—your weakness, your grief, your fear, your joy—Jesus understands the human heart from within.

Why Did God Become Man?

We know that Jesus is God who became man.

But have you ever stopped to ask:

Why?

Why would the Creator enter His creation?

Why would God come so close to us?

The Catechism gives us a beautiful answer. Christ came to save us, to reveal God’s love to us, to show us how to live, and to draw us into God’s own life. (CCC 456–460)

God didn’t love us from a distance.

He came close.

He entered our human story. He took on our humanity. He lived among us. And He gave Himself for our salvation.

đź’­ Reflection: If God was willing to come so close to you, are you willing to come closer to Him?

🙏 This week’s challenge: Spend five quiet minutes before a crucifix or an image of Christ. Simply look at Jesus and say, “Thank You for coming for me.”

Who Is Jesus Christ?

We hear His name everywhere.

We pray in His name.
We sing about Him.
We celebrate Him at Mass.

But who is Jesus really?

The Catholic faith teaches that Jesus is not merely a great teacher, prophet, or historical figure. He is the eternal Son of God who became man for our salvation. (CCC 423)

And this is why Jesus is at the heart of our faith.

Christianity isn’t simply about learning a list of teachings.

It is about encountering a Person.

Someone who wants to be known, loved and followed.

How Does God Reveal Himself to Us?

God isn’t hiding from us.

The Catholic Church teaches that God freely reveals Himself and His plan of love so that we can know Him and enter into relationship with Him. And this revelation reaches its fullness in Jesus Christ. (CCC 50–73)

God didn’t simply send us information about Himself.

He came to meet us.

Through Scripture, Sacred Tradition and, above all, Jesus Christ, God continues to invite us into a deeper relationship with Him.

Can We Really Know God?

Have you ever looked at creation and wondered, “Who made all this?” Or felt deep within you that there must be something more?

The Catechism teaches that creation, our search for truth and goodness, our conscience, and our longing for happiness can all point us toward God. (CCC 31–34)

But here’s the beautiful part: God doesn’t simply wait for us to find Him. He reveals Himself and invites us into relationship with Him. (CCC 35)

Why Did God Create You?

Have you ever paused to ask yourself that question?

Why am I here?
What is my life really about?
What does God want for me?

The truth is simple and beautiful:

You are not an accident. You were created by God, out of love, and for a purpose.

The Catechism tells us that God created us so that we might share in His own blessed life (CCC 1). It also teaches that the desire for God is written deep within every human heart (CCC 27).

That means the things we spend our lives pursuing—success, money, relationships, careers, comfort—can never completely satisfy us if we lose sight of the One who created us.

At the heart of our lives is an invitation:

To know God.
To love God.
To live with God.

Are you building your life around God, or are you simply trying to find a place for God within the life you’ve already built?

The Rosary is more than a prayer—it’s a way of life. Each mystery invites us to know Christ more deeply, love Him more faithfully, and follow Him more closely.

As you move forward, make the Rosary a daily habit. Let it shape your heart, strengthen your faith, and fill your home with God’s peace.

“Rooted and built up in Him, established in the faith.” — Colossians 2:7

🌹 Challenge: Commit to praying at least one decade of the Rosary every day this week. Small, faithful steps lead to lasting spiritual growth.
