*DIVINE PRESENCE AND GUIDANCE*

*📖Text: Exodus 13:21 "The Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night."*

As the Israelites were led out of Egypt, they faced uncertain paths and daunting challenges. They just left a place where they had been enslaved for centuries. They were heading into the wilderness where the journey was not going to be easy. They would face several obstacles and trials along the way. God did not leave them alone in their journey to navigate on their own. Instead, He provided a visible sign of His presence and direction, manifesting as a cloud by day and a fire by night. It is a profound symbol of God’s presence and guidance in the lives of His children.

In our own lives, we often encounter moments of uncertainty and confusion. We may be standing at crossroads, unsure of which direction to take. But God promises to guide us. He does not leave us in the dark; He illuminates our path. The key is to trust in His presence, just as the Israelites had to trust in the pillars that led them. God’s Word serves as our guide, illuminating our journey and providing clarity amid life's complexities (Psalm 119:105). We discover that His guidance often comes through prayer, reading the Bible, and the wisdom of those around us. Seeking God’s Word daily and allowing it to be our light will shape our decisions and actions. God is with us, even when the way seems unclear. We should, therefore, trust in His guidance, step forward in faith knowing He is with us every step of the way.

*🙏🏼Prayer: Heavenly Father, let Your presence guide and protect me in the journey of my life.*

*🗝️Insight: God’s presence is a sure guide and protection for His children.*

*A THORN IN THE FLESH*

*📖Text: 2 Corinthians 12:7 “And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.”*

Paul, in his letters, confirms his spiritual experience of God’s unspeakable revelations. However, God, knowing that the special privileges given to Paul could lead to pride, allowed a thorn in his flesh. The precise nature of this “thorn in the flesh” is unknown. But it is suggested that it could be a form of infirmity that kept him humble, giving him a sense of weakness. Paul needed a constant reminder of his weakness that he might always realize his dependence on God. He referred to the thorn as a “messenger of Satan” that buffeted him. God allowed this situation to keep him in check against pride and self-glory. Despite the fact that God used Paul to perform miracles in the lives of others, God allowed the “thorn” to remain in his life even when he prayed against it.

God sometimes allows Satan a limited and controlled level of opportunity to create weakness in our lives as Christians. The purpose is to keep us humble and remain dependent on God for strength. Thus, spiritual strength is not determined by sound health or prosperity. As a Christian, you may be facing physical, emotional, financial or spiritual pain intended by Satan to afflict your life, but God’s grace is always sufficient even in your weakness. Your “thorn in the flesh” may be challenges from an unbelieving spouse, a disobedient child, a health issue or physical disability. Don’t be discouraged from praying to God about it. He has the best answer even if His answer is “no”.

*🗝️Prayer: Lord, let Your strength be made perfect in my weakness in Jesus name.*

*🗝️Insight: A challenge is meant to keep a Christian from becoming proud.*

*DEALING WITH SINFUL INDULGENCE*

*📖Text: Colossians 3:5 "Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: s*xual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry."*

Indulgence is the act of yielding to a tempting desire. This is because of the shades, shapes and colouration in which it comes. The devil skilfully helps us as Christians to become indulged in sinful acts which we are supposed to put to death. Today’s passage enumerates all those things that sum up to sinful indulgence. Some are notable and can easily be noticed as sin while some others are not. The ease of which we get confused by them makes it more difficult. Generally, they are listed as follows; s*xual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire and covetousness. They are sinful indulgence because they control our emotions and we could barely resist them.

As Christians, no matter how attractive and tempting sin may be, we should consider ourselves dead to it. Sexual immorality is one of the sins easy to get indulged in. Sexual perversion is on the increase every day. The desire for s*x is not a sin in itself as such because God created us as human beings to satisfy our s*xual desire within marriage relationships. By implication, premarital s*x, extramarital s*x, homos*xuality, be******ty and other s*xual perversions are connected with s*xual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire and covetousness. Greed has made many individuals to indulge in such sinful acts, too shameful to mention among Christians. Sinful indulgence drains our spiritual strength and turns our hearts away from God. We therefore need to put to death the desire for sinful indulgence and anything that triggers such desires.

*🙏🏼Prayer: Dear God, give me grace to overcome every form of sinful indulgence.*

*🗝️Insight: To be alive in Christ is to be dead to the pleasures of sin.*
