Wisdom For Living

Life After The Cross 22

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,
Philippians 3:20 NIV

There are so many citizens of first world Nations who are so proud of the fact that they are citizens of such Nations. In other words, they are proud of their Nationality. They are very comfortable in their Nations

There are also citizens of some third world Nations who would do anything to become citizens of first world Nations. This is just to show us how people value the concept of citizenship in a Nation that is working.

When you become a legal citizen of such Nations, you have the right to live in that Nation for as long as you want and you're given access to all the rights or privileges available to those who live in that Nation.

Now, the next reality of life after the cross is the reality of our heavenly citizenship. For those of us living after the cross, the work of Jesus on the cross has made us citizens of heaven. This is very powerful.

No one in the old testament went straight to heaven after death, they couldn't do that because they were not citizens of heaven. But through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, we are now citizens of heaven.

Some people will be very glad to realize that they are now citizens of one first world Nation or the other. But how about becoming a citizen of heaven? I think this is something that is worth shouting about

Our opening scripture clearly says but our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ. When I read a scripture like this, I wonder why many Believers still lack hope.

There are so many Believers who live like this world is everything and they are living with the mantra, get rich or die trying. They live as though everything begins and ends with this age and in this present world.

Then there are some who are not sure if they are going to make heaven. They are always struggling and making efforts to be able to make heaven on the last day. Why struggle when you are a citizen already?

It just doesn't make sense. Whenever you leave this world as a Believer, you are going straight to heaven because you are a citizen of heaven. Become established in these truths and you will have real hope.

No citizen of America in Nigeria struggles to return back to America. Therefore, no citizen of heaven struggles to make it to heaven after life on earth. Jesus sorted out all your documents through the cross. Blessings!

Life After The Cross 10

But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;
Romans 3:21 KJV

The Bible declares that before Jesus came into this world, there was none righteous, not even one. Righteousness was a feat that no one could attain to. They all tried but they all failed. Man was unrighteous.

This was how life was before the cross. Adam lost this righteousness right from the garden and he tried everything to get it back but he couldn't. All his descendants tried hard but they couldn't get it back too.

Then Jesus Christ came and through his redemptive work on the cross, he made it possible for man to become righteous before God. Life after the cross is a billion times better than life before the cross.

Now that Jesus has made righteousness available to man, man can stand before God boldly, he can stand before Satan, men and the circumstances of life boldly without fear, guilt, shame and inferiority.

Also, man can now live right and do right because righteousness is also a nature which empowers the one who has it to live right and do right. Righteousness is the nature that produces right living in man.

Our opening scripture says but now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets. So, there is a a certain kind of righteousness, it is without the law

That means it's a kind of righteousness that is not a product of human efforts or works. It is the righteousness of God and it is a gift. This kind of righteousness was not available to man before the cross.

Before the cross, the only righteousness available was the righteousness of the law but no one could attain it because no one could keep the law. However the prophets spoke about a new kind of righteousness

They declared that a time would come in the future when the righteousness of God without the law would become available to man. The law also testified or spoke about this future blessing of righteousness.

But when Jesus came and died on the cross, he made it available and everyone who believes in Jesus is made righteous before God. It's a free gift given to us in Christ Jesus today. This is a huge privilege

None of the people who lived before the cross had this blessing. The Bible clearly says that him who knew no sin had he made to be sin that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Hallelujah!

The cross is actually the game changer in the dynamics of our relationship with God. Let's live out the fullness of our blessings through the cross and not try to live like those who lived before the cross.

Stand in your place of righteousness, say it boldly that you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus and walk in the light of this gift of righteousness. You are now righteous by your faith in Jesus Christ. Blessings!

Wisdom For Living

Life After The Cross 3

Christ ended the law so that everyone who believes in him is made right with God.
Romans 10:4 ERV

I believe it's an insult to the blood of Jesus Christ and the grace of God for Believers to keep living today, the same way people lived before the cross. We cannot relate with God today like old testament people.

The cross of Jesus Christ made a huge difference and we must acknowledge it. Life before the cross and life after the cross are significantly different and we must appreciate this difference carefully.

The next reality of life after the cross is the end of the law. Today, there is no more law like they had before the cross. You are not supposed to keep any law because the law has ended. The cross ended the law.

Someone may be saying; so, are you now trying to say that we should not keep the ten commandments? I am not trying to say it, I am saying it. When Jesus died on the cross of calvary, he ended the law.

The law here intrinsically refers to the ten commandments and then every other ceremonial law given to the people. Those who live after the cross are not supposed to try to keep the ten commandments.

I know that there are many people who are still trying to keep the ten commandments today. They are still living old testament lives in new testament times. They are still living like those before the cross even now.

They are yet to acknowledge, appreciate and align with the realities of the cross and the life after the cross. Those who lived before the cross couldn't keep the law. Hence Jesus ended it on the cross.

The same law which the people of Israel whom it was given to could not keep for over 1,500 years, why do you now want to keep it even when God didn't give the law to you to keep. This is religious busybody!

Our opening scripture says Christ ended the law so that everyone who believes in him is made right with God. Jesus Christ fully kept the law by obeying it and God identified us with him in his obedience.

When Christ obeyed the law, God counted it that those of us who believe in Christ have obeyed the law. After Christ obeyed the law and fulfilled the law, he went to the cross to satisfy the full claims of the law.

Man had sinned against God and then the claims of the law states that the soul that sins shall die. The animals that were sacrificed in the old testament could not satisfy this claim until Jesus came.

Jesus went to the cross as the lamb of God and fully satisfied this claim. When he died on the cross for all humanity, he met the last claim of the law. So, the law was fully fulfilled by Jesus Christ on the cross.

This was why Jesus cried and said it is finished. The law had been fully fulfilled and then it was set aside. The moment the law was fulfilled, it was set aside. Hence the curtain in the temple was torn into two

That curtain was twenty feet high, forty feet wide and four inches thick. It was torn from top to bottom by the hand of God to show us that the law had ended and the old testament had been fully concluded.

Today, we are led by the Holy Spirit who lives on our inside not by an outward code on the outside. When we follow the Holy Spirit within us and the desires he places within our spirits, we will live accurately.

The law is like the manual car and life after the cross is like the automatic car. Everything about the gear has been wired into the car and as you accelerate, the gear system will regulate it's speed itself.

God has wired the law into your spirit and you don't need to struggle to keep them from the outside. Just follow the Holy Spirit and your spirit and you will be fine. This is good news for Believers today.

Because the only way to make people right before God is to end the law. As long as you are living like those who lived before the cross, you'll never feel righteous before God because the law's duty is to do that.

You want to feel righteous and be able to live right? Then stop trying to live by the law and just follow Holy Spirit who lives within you. This is another beautiful reality of life after the cross. So, make it count.
Blessings!

Wisdom For Living

Enemies Of Honour 10

Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD.
Leviticus 19:32 KJV

We can learn so many life principles from nature and one of such principles is the principle of sowing and reaping which is applicable to every aspect of life including the subject of honour. Honour is a seed.

When you sow honour, you will reap it back into your life. The good news is, the seed is always much more smaller than the harvest. When the seed of honour is sown, it produces a harvest of greater honour.

We have been learning about the keys to walking in honour or how to sow honour and we have also considered the enemies of honour. Today, we'll be looking at the last enemy of honour, please pay attention

The last enemy of honour is dishonour to the elderly. We are not just supposed to honour our parents, we are expected to also honour the elderly anywhere we find them or meet them. This is very important

The way we treat elderly people will go a long way to determine if we enjoy honour or not. When you mistreat elderly or old people and talk to them sarcastically, it will rob you of your own honour and glory.

Our opening scripture says thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD. That means when you see a man of woman with gray hair, stand up.

Don't sit down and be talking to him or her while he or she is standing. Then it says honour the face of the old man. You see, these truths have been in the scriptures for years and if we apply them, they will work.

Nations where young people honour the elderly, they live long, they prosper and they enjoy much honour. But Nations where young people despise or dishonour the elderly, they always die prematurely.

They lack honour in their lives. The way you treat old people or elderly people is very important. Even if you are before them in a queue and then they beg you, allow them, don't keep grandstanding

Be careful how you talk to them because God is watching. You cannot despise or dishonour an old person and walk in much honour in life. Therefore, be careful with the elderly whenever you find them. God bless you!

Wisdom For Living

Enemies Of Honour 8

He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: But he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
Proverbs 10:5 KJV

Although God has ordained the Believer to walk in honour, there are some factors that can hinder and deprive him from enjoying the honour given to him by God. These factors are known as enemies of honour.

The next enemy of honour is laziness and excuses. There are so many people who would love to walk in honour but they are unwilling to put in the effort, the work and diligence that are required to enjoy honour

When they see some other people receive honour in various aspects of their lives or endeavours, they credit it to luck or just some sheer opportunity but this attitude can rob you of the honour ordained for you

Diligence and hard work are major keys to walking in honour and if you refuse to be diligent in whatever you, you will never experience honour. Therefore, ensure that you avoid laziness or excuses in your life.

The Bible says be diligent to show yourself approved unto God, a workman the needs not to be ashamed but rightly dividing the Word of truth. You see, lack of diligence is the foundation of shame and reproach.

If you fail to be diligent, you will experience shame and reproach instead of honour. Diligence or hard work is a choice not a gift. You have to choose to be diligent and then put in the work that is necessary.

Our opening scripture says he that gathers in summer is a wise son: But he that sleeps in harvest is a son that causes shame. Tell me, why will a man fail to gather during harvest? It's just laziness.

Some people don't want to lift their fingers to do anything but they want to receive the honour, credit and awards when it's time but life does not work that way. Diligence or hard work always comes before honour

Remember, it is the man who is diligent in his business that will stand before kings in other words it is diligence that provokes honour. When you work hard, people will naturally give you the honour you deserve

Life and nature is obligated to honour the diligent or hardworking but the lazy shall come under tribute, shame and reproach. Stop making excuses why that thing can't be done. Sit down and think it through.

As you deploy your mind and body to do your work, career, business and ministry diligently, you will be honoured but if you keep making excuses and yield yourself to laziness, you won't experience honour. Blessings!

Wisdom For Living

Enemies of Honour 2

Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.

Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house,

And I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.
2 Samuel 12:9-12 KJV

We are looking at factors that deprive so many people of walking in the honour that God has ordained for them. We called these factors the enemies of honour. We identified the first enemy to be pride.

Now, the second enemy of honour is moral failure. Moral failure is a disappointing mistake or character flaw that is found in a leader who is held in very high esteem by so many people. Moral failure is terrible.

Moral failure can happen in the form of corruption, sexual immorality and abuse of any kind. Such failures in the moral codes of people who are highly valued, trusted and respected is an enemy of honour.

When Satan brings temptations to you to try you and seduce you to fail morally, one of his targets is your honour. The moment you fail morally, he robs you of the honour that God has given you. So, be very careful

Our opening scripture captures the way God responded to the moral failure of king David. He slept with Bathsheba Uriah's wife, he killed Uriah and then married his wife. This was a very heavy moral failure.

Then the Lord said to David, now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house; because thou has despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. Thus saith the LORD,

Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house, and I will take your wives before your eyes, and give them unto your neighbour, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.

For you did it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun. You can see how shameful it is for your own son to take your wives and sleep with them openly but it happened to David.

It was shameful, disgraceful, reproachful and embarrassing to David. But it would not have happened if not for his moral failure. Therefore, let's learn from David whenever we are tempted to fail morally.

Remember, sin has a cost and one of the costs of moral failure is your honour. The day came that David's own son drove him out of his kingdom and slept with all his concubines in the public view of Israel.

As David ran out of his kingdom, a young man who couldn't stand in the presence of David insulted and derided him that day and David wore shame as a garment. His honour was completely gone and eroded.

We have seen leaders in various capacities robbed of their honour because of moral failure. Therefore, avoid moral failure and protect your honour. Your moral integrity is the foundation or bedrock of your honour. Blessings!

Wisdom For Living

Keys To Honour 6

When Jesus had finished saying all this to the people who were listening, he entered Capernaum. There a centurion’s servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die.

The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant. When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him,

“This man deserves to have you do this, because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.” So Jesus went with them.....
Luke 7:1-6 NIV

God's plan for every Believer is to walk in honour not in shame, squalor, disgrace or reproach. The redemptive work of Jesus on the cross has secured honour for the Believer. You ought to walk in honour daily

Just because God has ordained us to walk in honour as Believers doesn''t mean that we will automatically walk in honour. We still need to apply certain keys to enable us walk in the honour ordained for us.

The next key to walking in honour is the power of impact. Although honour is not earned, yet honour comes to us in several levels. The first level of honour is tied to position, it is called positional honour.

This is when you honour someone just because of the position that he or she occupies not because the person really deserves it. Maybe because the person is your boss, parent, husband, leader etc.

But the honour increases when you move beyond just your position and you begin to apply the various keys that we are learning about. The key we are looking at today is the key of impact. Impact brings honour.

When you make impact in people's lives and add value to them, it increases the honour that comes from them to you. So many leaders want honour but they are not interested in adding value to the followers.

Whenever you have a leadership that is not interested in making impact or adding value to the people being led, all they will ever get is positional or level one honour. They will never receive greater honours.

But there are greater honours reserved for those who make impact and add value. Life is not about acquisition but impact. Strive to add more value to people and look for opportunities to make impact.

Once you give yourself to adding value to others and making impact with every bit of opportunity that you have, you will never lack honour. It therefore means that we cannot walk in honour if we are selfish.

Our opening scripture shows us how the centurion reached out to Jesus to come to his house to heal his servant who was at the point of death. Now, it would be a very great honour for Jesus to visit anyone.

But the Jewish elders prevailed on Jesus and pleaded on behalf of the centurion. They said this man deserves to have you do this, because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue. Can you see that!

The centurion had made an impact on the Jewish Nation and as a result of that, the people said to Jesus, this man deserves to get this honour because of the impact he has made on our Nation. This is beautiful.

Then the scriptures said, so Jesus went with them. There are certain levels and degrees of honour that come to you not just because of the position you occupy but the impact you have made on others.

Sometimes, people wonder why Pastors receive so much honour, it's impact. One of the offsprings of impact is honour, it's actually one of the laws of honour. You can't make impact and not be honoured.

It doesn't really matter the campaign of calumny against Pastors online. The ones who are making impact will continue to receive honour until Jesus comes. If you want honour, don't seek it, make impact.

Seek to add value, make life better for someone, help people any way you can. Use your resources, positions, privileges, rights, opportunities and so on to make life better for other people, live for impact.

As you continue to live like this, you will see that you are increasing in honour and receiving more honour everywhere you go. Live beyond yourself and begin to think impact today. God bless you!

Wisdom For Living

Keys To Honour 3

He that followeth after righteousness and mercy Findeth life, righteousness, and honour.
Proverbs 21:21 KJV

I believe the teaching of God's Word can be very practical. You can go into the Word of God and get real answers to everyday questions that may be bothering you. For instance, let's consider the subject honour

You may want to enjoy more honour and walk in more honour and you are asking in your heart, what must I do to enjoy or walk in more honour? This series was designed with you in mind. Just follow very closely

We are providing answers to your question through this series. We have already seen some things that can be done to help us walk in more honour. The next step to take to enjoy honour is doing righteousness.

If you really want to be honoured as a child of God, then live out the righteousness of God that you have on your inside everyday of your life and everywhere you are. Ensure that your stand on all issues are very clear.

The scriptures say righteousness exalts a Nation but sin is a reproach to any people. To exalt means to honour or to add more honour to someone. When we do right and live out righteousness, honour is the result

Our opening scripture says he that follows after righteousness and mercy finds life, righteousness, and honour. You see, when you are a follower or a diligent practitioner of righteousness, honour will come to you.

Remember Daniel, Meshach, Shadrach and Abednego, how they stood out in the land of Babylon and upheld righteousness as a lifestyle. God honoured them greatly and promoted them above all other men then.

When you stand for righteousness, there are some times that you may go through trials and tribulations for a while just like these four young men and even Joseph. They all suffered for their righteous stand.

But at the end of the day, God gave them so much honour. If you want to walk in great honour, don't be a twisted person. Don't be known for a life of compromise, lies and deception. Live out righteousness

The Book of Hebrews spoke prophetically about Jesus and said because thou has loved righteousness and hated iniquity, the Lord has anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows, that's honour.

Become a passionate lover and a doer of righteousness. It pays in the long term not in the short term. In the short term, it may look like a loss but in the long term, it will confer great honour on you. Blessings!
