Wisdom For Living
Keys To Honour 6
When Jesus had finished saying all this to the people who were listening, he entered Capernaum. There a centurion’s servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die.
The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant. When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him,
“This man deserves to have you do this, because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.” So Jesus went with them.....
Luke 7:1-6 NIV
God's plan for every Believer is to walk in honour not in shame, squalor, disgrace or reproach. The redemptive work of Jesus on the cross has secured honour for the Believer. You ought to walk in honour daily
Just because God has ordained us to walk in honour as Believers doesn''t mean that we will automatically walk in honour. We still need to apply certain keys to enable us walk in the honour ordained for us.
The next key to walking in honour is the power of impact. Although honour is not earned, yet honour comes to us in several levels. The first level of honour is tied to position, it is called positional honour.
This is when you honour someone just because of the position that he or she occupies not because the person really deserves it. Maybe because the person is your boss, parent, husband, leader etc.
But the honour increases when you move beyond just your position and you begin to apply the various keys that we are learning about. The key we are looking at today is the key of impact. Impact brings honour.
When you make impact in people's lives and add value to them, it increases the honour that comes from them to you. So many leaders want honour but they are not interested in adding value to the followers.
Whenever you have a leadership that is not interested in making impact or adding value to the people being led, all they will ever get is positional or level one honour. They will never receive greater honours.
But there are greater honours reserved for those who make impact and add value. Life is not about acquisition but impact. Strive to add more value to people and look for opportunities to make impact.
Once you give yourself to adding value to others and making impact with every bit of opportunity that you have, you will never lack honour. It therefore means that we cannot walk in honour if we are selfish.
Our opening scripture shows us how the centurion reached out to Jesus to come to his house to heal his servant who was at the point of death. Now, it would be a very great honour for Jesus to visit anyone.
But the Jewish elders prevailed on Jesus and pleaded on behalf of the centurion. They said this man deserves to have you do this, because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue. Can you see that!
The centurion had made an impact on the Jewish Nation and as a result of that, the people said to Jesus, this man deserves to get this honour because of the impact he has made on our Nation. This is beautiful.
Then the scriptures said, so Jesus went with them. There are certain levels and degrees of honour that come to you not just because of the position you occupy but the impact you have made on others.
Sometimes, people wonder why Pastors receive so much honour, it's impact. One of the offsprings of impact is honour, it's actually one of the laws of honour. You can't make impact and not be honoured.
It doesn't really matter the campaign of calumny against Pastors online. The ones who are making impact will continue to receive honour until Jesus comes. If you want honour, don't seek it, make impact.
Seek to add value, make life better for someone, help people any way you can. Use your resources, positions, privileges, rights, opportunities and so on to make life better for other people, live for impact.
As you continue to live like this, you will see that you are increasing in honour and receiving more honour everywhere you go. Live beyond yourself and begin to think impact today. God bless you!
