2025 Theme: Exceedingly Great Reward (Revelation 22:12)
Week 4: 25th May 2025
Topic: Perseverance in Good Works
Text: Galatians 6:9
Aim:
To understand the challenges in maintaining good works and to encourage one another to remain steadfast in our efforts.
Introduction:
Perseverance in good works is a vital aspect of the Christian life. It is easy to grow weary when we face obstacles or when our efforts seem unnoticed or unrewarded. However, the Bible encourages believers to persist in doing good, reminding us that our labor is not in vain.
Paul’s exhortation in this verse is especially relevant in a world where instant gratification is often sought, and where the fruit of righteous actions may not always be immediately apparent. Whether in our personal lives, in ministry, or in our relationships, we are called to press on in good works, trusting that God will bring about the fruit in His perfect timing. The reward for our perseverance in doing good is not only for the present but also has eternal significance.
This passage teaches us that the key to perseverance is not relying on our own strength, but on the assurance that God sees our efforts and will reward them. The harvest Paul speaks of is the result of a faithful, ongoing commitment to doing good, even when it feels difficult. This perseverance reflects the character of Christ, who, for the joy set before Him, endured the cross (Hebrews 12:2).
Similarly, as we endure in good works, we are participating in God's redemptive purposes and advancing His kingdom.
Hence, in our final week, we will reflect on the importance of perseverance in good works and how to stay committed to serving others.
Study Questions:
1. What motivates believers to persevere in doing good works, according to Galatians 6:9, and how can this perseverance bring spiritual fruit in due season? (Hebrews 12:1-2, 2 Corinthians 4:16-18, James 5:7-8, Romans 2:7, 1 Corinthians 15:58).
2. How does the promise of a future reward, as mentioned in Galatians 6:9, encourage believers to persist in good works despite present challenges and discouragements? (Matthew 5:12, Colossians 3:24, 2 Corinthians 4:17, Revelation 22:12, Luke 6:23).
3. In what ways does Galatians 6:9 remind believers that doing good works is not just about immediate results, but requires long-term faithfulness and trust in Gods timing? (Psalm 27:14, Hebrews 10:36, 1 Peter 1:6-7, 2 Thessalonians 3:13, James 1:4).
4. How can the perseverance in good works spoken of in Galatians 6:9 help believers to reflect the character of Christ and strengthen the church community? (Ephesians 4:2-3, Romans 12:11-12, Hebrews 10:24-25, 1 Thessalonians 5:11, Galatians 6:2).
Conclusion:
Perseverance in good works is crucial for lasting impact and rewards. We must encourage one another to keep going. Galatians 6:9 calls believers to persevere in doing good, with the promise that we will "reap a harvest if we do not give up." This verse reminds us that the work we do for God, though at times difficult or seemingly unnoticed, has eternal significance.
We may not always see the immediate results of our good works, but God is faithful to bring about a harvest in due time. Our perseverance in doing good is part of God’s greater plan, and it is a testimony to our faithfulness and trust in His timing.
In moments of discouragement or weariness, let us hold fast to the truth that God will reward our efforts. He sees our labor and promises that it will not go unnoticed.
Therefore, we are called to continue pressing on in good works, knowing that, in God's time, the fruit will come. May we persevere in doing good, reflecting the heart of Christ, and trusting that our efforts will bear lasting fruit for His glory.
