CHRISTIANS: WHO ARE THEY?
Acts 11:26
It's so sad that everyone who goes to church or bears a Christian (Biblical) name is considered to be a Christian. Jesus said, ‘Not everyone that says to Me Lord, Lord enters into the kingdom…’ (Matt. 7:21). This means that not everyone who seems to call Jesus Lord is a Christian. Jesus added, ‘By their fruit you will know them’ (Matt. 7:20). Christians are known by their fruits - their way of life.
The disciples were called Christians because the unbelievers saw their way of life. Therefore, not everyone that is referred to as Christian is a Christian. It is the way a person lives that makes him either a Christian or not.
I listened to a man of God saying that the most wicked people he has seen are Christians. As much as I respect him due to his impacts in Christendom. I beg to differ. Christians are not wicked but those we look at and assume to be Christians are those that could be considered as being wicked.
Christianity as much as I know, is a way of life, not a title, name or Church membership. A Christian is known by the fruit he bears - his lifestyle.
Is it possible to see among Christians those who are wicked? Yes. Are they Christians? No.
Wicked people are comfortably sitting among Christians because messages on our pulpit are making them comfortable which are materialistic and socialistic; a show of materialism, ostentation and how large our congregation is. We are building cathedrals but left the people unbuilt.
The message of repentance that Jesus preached and asked the disciples to preach is now considered an Old Testament message.
Biblical laws are considered archaic. But we respect Constitutions, rules and regulations, orders and ethics. What do we call them?
We have reduced Christianity to altar call. As much as altar call is necessary, it is not Christianity. It is the beginning of the journey.
We have made Christianity a life of grace without boundaries; freedom without limits and liberty without standards. Sometimes, the message a member will go home with from a church service is …
I cannot be poor – though poverty is not what anyone will desire, but in which area?
Poverty is a sin – though no one is praying for poverty, has God called it a sin?
I can't be a friend of the poor – who does this preacher represent?
We are no longer under the law – the question is which of the laws?
We are under grace - yes, we are but does the New Testament teach grace without boundaries?
It is easy to see ‘Christians’ who are wicked because we have made the fear of God an Old Testament message. Christianity is no longer a life of sacrifice but convenience.
We can now see ‘wicked people with Christian names on the pulpit’. This is because babes or wolves in sheep clothings are now occupying the pulpit even when they are still in the pit.
Yes, Christian life begins at New Birth, but New Birth is the beginning of the process. At new birth, a person is a babe, unskilful, tossed and sometimes without any spiritual fruit. The heart of a babe may be like the way side because he lacks understanding of the word of God; stony because God's word has no root in him; or thorny because his attention has not been moved from the cares of this world.
A Christian is a person who has been pruned to bear much fruit, who denies himself and chooses to follow Jesus whatever may. He is a person who is Christ-like. A person that Christ-likeness is more important than materialism and ‘power’.
A Christian does not live for himself. He lives for Christ and to do His good pleasure. But today we have Christians who live for themselves - amassing wealth for themselves and turning their back at the poor, the widow and the fatherless. They take delight in taking from the poor but give them nothing in return.
A Christian lives a careful life because he is a book read by others. But today we have people who do not care whatever is said about them; those whose conscience has been seared with hot iron. They use the word of God to justify their wrongs.
Remember, Jesus knows those who belong to Him. Those who belong to Jesus are known by their fruits.
Know that whoever is not a Christian is not a Christian.
Whoever is wicked is not a Christian.
Christians are not wicked but are the light of the world.
