*SUNDAY, JULY 19 SERMON*
Topic: My Body Is the Temple of God and Not an Idol
Texts: 1 Corinthians 6:19–20; Exodus 34:14; Ephesians 6:12
Preacher: Pastor J. B. Ayeni
An idol is anything that has taken God's place in your life. It is anything you love or value more than God.
The temple of God is something that has been consecrated and set apart for God. Our bodies belong to Him and should be used to glorify Him.
The history of idolatry in Nigeria dates back to FESTAC '77, when Nigeria hosted many nations for the cultural festival. After a similar idol-related celebration in Ethiopia, the country experienced a severe famine that led to widespread suffering. Nigeria was preserved from such a disaster because of the presence of many praying churches after FESTAC '77.
Always pray and be attentive to your body's signals. Ensure that every part of your body, your kidneys, liver, and every other organ is spiritually charged through prayer. Your body belongs to God and must bring Him glory.
How to Take Care of God's Temple
1. Cover every part of your body that should be covered.
2. Dress modestly and wear what is pleasing to God. Wearing what God forbids is a form of idolatry.
Keeping ornamental decorations, such as snake or lion images, in the home, especially on centre tables, can become idols and negatively affect one's spiritual life.
Finally, the Regional Overseer encouraged believers to fortify both their homes and their bodies through prayer and a life of holiness.
