We all hate spoilers. When a new season/episode of your favorite TV show is released, the last person you want to see is that overzealous friend who somehow got their hands on the series before everyone else, binge watched the whole thing and now just finds pure joy in ruining it for everyone else by spilling all the juice. Some of us even go as far a deliberately avoiding contact with them until we get to watch the episode for ourselves (don't you just hate how the really cruel ones love chasing you around as you scream, hands over your ears so you wouldn't hear a thing they say?). It's naïve to think that because a dream is important to you, it will naturally stay top, front and centre in your heart.
The logic of that sounds correct but life has a way of crushing logic.

That's why it is VITALLY IMPORTANT that you consciously remind yourself of your dreams, of what's truly important to you, what you are here to do.

That reminder is not some complex process.
Write down that dream. Yes, pen and paper style.
Look at it everyday- on those days you feel invincible and when you feel invisible as well. Look at that dream. That's not hard is it? No one is asking you to do it all at once. But look at it- everyday.
It will inspire you sometimes and accuse you at other times- but look all the same.

ON WAITING WHILE RUNNING (PART 2).

In the first part of this post, we saw that there is a constant tension between the enormity of the tasks God commits to us and our awareness that we cannot deliver the expectations strictly on the basis of will power or personal skill.

So how do we exist in that space where we're fully aware of what he'd have us do, but calm enough to let him lead the way?

The answer is in one word- FELLOWSHIP.

it seems like as soon as God places a task on our heart and we 'get it', we become so juiced, scurrying around for resources; partners, platforms and paycheques to fund the fire in our souls.

But that's not His method. Every desire he burns into your soul is meant to trigger one reaction- a race to Him in fellowship.

"You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me!"
John 5:39 NLT

Those 'powerful' words and images you've 'caught' do not point to an action, they point, FIRST, to a PERSON!
In relating with that person, you find the specific action(s) that deliver the task on your heart.

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. THEN SHALL YE CALL UPON ME, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. AND YE SHALL SEEK ME, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."
Jeremiah 29:11‭-‬13 KJV

Observe the progression- first the promise, then, not action, but fellowship.

His ways are not grievous; He gains no sadistic thrill from watching you scramble and scurry, trying to birth the things He's put in you.

But we do not impress God by running out as soon as we know what He's scheduled for us. That's not a proof of 'seriousness' or passion. It's ignorance- sincere ignorance.

The promise points to a person.
The person will authorize the action.
Respect the order- you'll go farther and last longer.

ON WAITING WHILE RUNNING

When we see what He'd have us do, the work He has prepared for us, we realize that there is no time to waste. No days to burn in frivolities and the deception of youth. We run swiftly, living each day with a sense of urgency.

But when we remember that He never designed us to run by ourselves, that we are incapable of delivering the weighty expectations of the cloud of witnesses cheering us on, we slow down long enough to listen, to hear His heartbeat and to fellowship with Him.

This sweet tension, the balance of urgency and patience.
A beautiful place to be.
A powerful way to live.

ON ASSOCIATIONS

Do not be deceived. Worse still, do not deceive yourself. ASSOCIATIONS ARE POWERFUL.
Read the next words slowly.
Associations.
Are.
Powerful.

This is not about the strength of individual character- humans become what they associate with. We are designed, hardwired that way.

Think about it. How does a person become a medical doctor, a programmer, a soldier, or any of the million things you can think of?
On a certain day, they started out in that field as blank as anyone else.
They KNEW nothing. Zero.

But as they ASSOCIATED with the INFORMATION, PLACES, PEOPLE and PRACTICES in that field, they BECAME what they associated with. Read that again.

You probably know this somewhere in your head but have you considered its deeper implications?
Ponder this- then deploy its power for your good.

It's a cheeky angle to one of life's most liberating practices; the ability to stop unproductive endeavors regardless of the time, effort and resources invested up to that point.

It takes deep courage to do this, to admit that we've misread the situation, that we've poured our energy down the drain, that we have simply wasted precious time.
It's hard, very hard to stop, risk looking like a fool and make a U-turn.

But until we do this, we'll never be free; for inspite of how well we keep up appearances, deep in our souls, that soft beep will never grow dim. That irrepressible voice will cry on, "I shouldn't be doing this".

So this month, these are our wishes for you:
May you find the courage to stop.
May you find the strength to turn.
