ALONE WITH JESUS: WALKING IN THE FAITH OF JESUS

_A Devotional Thought_

KEY TEXTS: Hebrews 12:2, Romans 1:17, Galatians 2:20

Walking in the faith of Jesus doesn’t start with doing more for God. It starts with looking at Him. The upward look at Jesus Christ will be the ingredients needed to grow to be like Him.

Hebrews 12:2 says, _“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.”_

The Christian life isn’t a solo performance. Not at all! It’s a response to a Person who already ran the race, finished it, and now invites us to walk with Him.
Hebrews 12:2 doesn’t say “fix your eyes on your discipline” or “on your consistency.” It says _fix your eyes on Jesus_. The Christian life starts and ends with a Person.

When Peter walked on water, he was fine as long as his eyes were on Jesus. The moment he looked at the wind and waves, he started sinking. Walking in the faith of Jesus means learning to keep looking back to Him, especially when life gets noisy.

Faith isn’t built by staring harder at your problems. It’s built by staring longer at your Saviour.

Beloved, when you spend time alone with Jesus, two things shift:

1. Your faith stops being about rules and starts being about trust.
Romans 1:17 reminds us that _“the righteous shall live by faith.”_

Faith isn’t a feeling you work up. It’s a posture of depending on Jesus day by day, like a child trusting their father’s hand. It's a Divine principle based on God's grace and laws of liberty.

2. Your identity stops being about performance and starts being about union.
Galatians 2:20 says, _“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.”_

The faith you walk in is actually _His_ faith living through you.

You don’t have to generate enough belief. You just have to stay connected to the One who is faithful. Staying connected requires dedication, commitment, trust and obedience to God's Word as faith comes by hearing of the Word of God rightly. This isn’t a one-time decision. It’s a daily rhythm.

Walking in the faith of Jesus looks like:
- Morning: Starting the day by acknowledging your dependence on Him before you check your phone.
- Midday: Pausing when stress rises and remembering He’s with you.
- Evening: Reviewing the day and noticing where He showed up, even in small ways.

Beloved of the Lord, faith becomes practical when it shapes how you think, choose, and rest.

KEY ASPECTS TO CONSIDER

1. Union Over Effort
Galatians 2:20 flips the script: _“I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.”_ You’re not trying to imitate Jesus from the outside. You’re learning to let His life flow through you from the inside.

That’s why Jesus said in John 15:5, _“Apart from me you can do nothing.”_ The branch doesn’t strain to produce fruit. It stays connected to the vine, and fruit happens naturally.

Walking in His faith means admitting, “I can’t, but He can.” It’s humility, not passivity. It’s dependence, not laziness.

2. What This Looks Like Alone with Jesus
When you’re alone with Jesus, you stop performing and start receiving. Try this structure:

Be still – 2 minutes of silence. Let your mind quiet down.
Be honest – Tell Him what’s actually on your heart. No religious language needed.
Be attentive – Read a short passage and ask, “Jesus, what are You showing me about Yourself here?”
Be responsive – Ask, “What’s one small step of trust You’re inviting me into today?”

Over time, this rhythm trains your heart to walk with Him outside of quiet time too.

APPLICATION FOR TODAY

Pick one area where you’ve been trying to “make faith happen” through effort alone. Maybe it’s worry about the future, pressure at work, or a relationship strain.

Bring that area to Jesus and say: “Lord, I can’t fix this by myself. I choose to trust You with it today. Walk with me in it.”

That’s walking in the faith _of_ Jesus. It’s His faithfulness carrying you, not your strength holding Him up.

Take 10 minutes without distractions. No phone, no to-do list. Just sit with Jesus and say, “Lord, I’m fixing my eyes on You today.” Let Him remind you that walking by faith means walking with Him, not walking alone.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, You are the author and perfecter of my faith. Forgive me for the times I’ve tried to live the Christian life in my own strength. Today I fix my eyes on You. Teach me to live by faith, to rest in Your work, and to let Your life live through me. Walk with me today, step by step. In Jesus Name. Amen.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS:

Where do I need to shift from striving for Jesus to abiding with Jesus this week?

Where have I been trying to produce faith on my own instead of receiving it from Jesus.

Shalom!!!
