BIOGRAPHY
Bishop Ayo Maria Sunday Atoyebi was born Sunday, December 3, 1944 in Okerimi-Oro, kwara state to pa Methodius Atoyebi and madam Abouepe Teresa Adeoye Atoyebi

St Andrew'sPrimary School, Okrimi-Oro; Sacred Heart Seminary Akure; SS Peter and Paul Major Seminary, Ibadan, 1971-78;
St. Thomas Aquinas Pontifical University, Rome, 1980-82. en member, Order of Preachers/Dominicans, 1969; Master ofNovices, 1983-92
He was ordained a priest of the Roman Catholic Church under the Order of Friars Preacher on 17 December 1978.
On 6th March 1992, he was appointed the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ilorin after which he was consecrated as Bishop on 17th May 1992 by Bishop Peter Yariyok Jatau. His ordination was also carried out by co-consecrators which includes: then Bishop John Onaiyekan now Cardinal John Onaiyekan and Bishop Felix Alaba Adeosin Job.
He was the bishop of Ilorin Diocese from 1992 to June 11, 2019 when he retired after attaining the age of 75

Bishop Atoyebi is a devotee of the Virgin Mary and promoter of Marian devotions and activities. He has written many books and given many talks on the blessed Virgin Mary. He started an annual Marian pilgrimage programme where Catholics in Ilorin Diocese visit the Blessed Virgin Mary pilgrimage site at Okerimi-Oro his hometown. He is also a member of the theological commission of the International Marian Association.

BIOGRAPHY

Archbishop Gabriel Ojeleke Abegunrin was born September 29, 1949 in Iwere-Ile in Iwajowa council area of Oyo State. He attended St. Kizito Minor Seminary, Ede, Osun State and SS Peter and Paul Major Seminary. He was ordained priest on 21 April 1979 at Iwere-Ile as Priest of Oyo, by Bishop Julius Adelakun, Bishop Emeritus of Oyo. He moved to the Pontifical Urban University in Rome in 1984, where he obtained a doctorate degree in Canon Law in 1988. After that he was the administrator of St. Benedict’s Cathedral, Osogbo and worked as a parish priest in Oyo, Ilesa and Ogbomoso before being appointed as the first Catholic Bishop of Osogbo diocese in March 3, 1995

THE CHURCH SHUNS DISCRIMINATION

Rev. Fr. James Anelu, the Parish Priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ewu-Owa Gberigbe in Ikorodu, Lagos, banned Igbo songs in his parish.



Father Anelu has been suspended by the Catholic Archbishop of Lagos for banning Igbo songs in his parish. The suspension takes effect from today, February 8, 2022.
The priest stood his ground and threatened members with the "wrath of God".
He told them that if he goes to Ekwulobia and starts speaking Yoruba, the people will stone him.
He then narrated an incident where he went for burial Mass in the South East and was initially denied a chance to say Mass because he can not speak Igbo.

He then asked why Igbos will be singing Igbo songs in a church in Lagos and questioned if the plan is to drive other tribes away from the church.

Dear Reverend Fathers/Sisters, Brothers & Sisters in the Lord,

OBITUARY ANNOUNCEMENT

It is with deep faith in the resurrection and with with heavy heart that the Catholic Diocese of Ilorin announces the death of our beloved Bishop, Most Rev. Paul Olawoore . He passed onto glory after a brief illness at the hospital in the early hours today 1st. January 2022. He was 60 years old.

We rejoice in the confident knowledge that he is at peace. We ask Mary, Mother of God to intercede for him and grant him a place amongst the angels and saints in the heavenly Kingdom.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time. We will send them out as soon as we have them finalized.

Eternal rest grant unto him, 0 Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul and the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Unknown gunmen have killed 37-year-old Reverend Father, Luke Mewhenu Adeleke (The chaplain of Itesi Deanery Laity Council, Abeokuta Diocese) in Ogun state

He was murdered while coming from a mass on Christmas Eve, Friday, December 24, 2021

His body was taken to the Sacred Heart Hospital, Lantoro, Abeokuta.

It was gathered that the gunmen waylaid the cleric at Ogunmakin village, in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government area of the State and shot him dead.

“He was said to have been transferred from Gotta Parish Ogun State to another Parish before the unfortunately incident.”

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the incident
The command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the gunmen exchanged fire with policemen in the area, saying they later escaped with bullets wounds.

He said, “It happened in Ogunmakin in Obafemi-Owode Local Government area of the state on Friday.

“The policemen engaged the gunmen in gunfire. Some of them escaped with bullets wounds.”

His farewell mass has been fixed for Thursday December 30, 2021 at st Anthony Catholic Church Ijemo Fadipe and funeral mass at SS Peter & Paul catholic Cathedral Adatan Abeokuta, Ogun state
