Telling the truth is the basic requirement of God for his children. How this same truth is presented is another kettle of fish. Eph 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
The content of the speech is moderated by the scriptures. Eph 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers
It is not just saying the truth. No sir. It is speaking the truth in a loving manner but not watering down the content. Col 4:6 Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
So to say the truth is 50%. How it is said and what is the motive is another 50%
So if you tell the truth to ridicule your friend, you have unknowingly sinned.
If you speak the truth to show off your quality of speech and make jest of those who don’t know the truth, you have sinned because pride was hidden under your speech.
So watch it. If you are a Christian, what you say or write online or offline must be the truth and it must be done in a loving manner so that God will be pleased.
