Topic: Divine Laws for God to Answer Prayers
Texts: Mark 11:24-26
Speaker: Pastor Victor Idiake
Note:
“24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.”
The Word
There are laws governing answers to prayers. The bible says, whatsoever we desire: So we have to first desire a thing.
Mark 11:24-26
Teaches that faithful, expectant prayer and a forgiving heart are deeply connected. Jesus assures believers that prayers aligned with God's will and offered without doubt will be answered. However, He immediately emphasizes that unforgiveness acts as a barrier to receiving God's continued mercy. Remember, that the bible says in Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” and “if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us” 1 John 1:8. For the prayers of a sinner is an abomination before God. Proverbs 28:9. Therefore, we must forgive others for our sins to be forgiven, and our prayers to be answered.
Matthew 6:9-15
Is the famous passage where Jesus teaches his disciples how to pray, commonly known as the Lord’s Prayer. Rather than a strict script to be recited mindlessly, it serves as a foundational template for approaching God, prioritizing spiritual alignment, daily reliance, and forgiving others.
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name." It begins with intimacy ("Father") combined with reverence ("in heaven, hallowed be..."). Then, Jesus immediately emphasizes the line about forgiveness by adding a warning: "For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."
Job 42:7-10
Detailing God’s rebuke of Job's friends for their false theology, Job’s role as a mediator, and the dramatic reversal of his suffering. By praying for those who falsely judged him, Job demonstrates radical grace. This foreshadows later biblical teachings on praying for one’s enemies and forgiving those who have caused us grief. Ultimately, Job’s faithfulness is vindicated. The spiritual posture of letting go of bitterness and praying for his friends becomes the catalyst that unlocks his own healing and restoration.
Luke 23:33-34
Recounts Jesus' arrival at Golgotha and his crucifixion between two criminals. Despite enduring extreme torture, Jesus asks God to forgive his ex*****oners, declaring, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing". This displays His ultimate grace, fulfilling prophecy by showing mercy to humanity.
Matthew 18:21-22
Jesus’ lesson on limitless forgiveness. When Peter asks if he should forgive someone up to seven times, Jesus responds, "not seven times, but seventy-seven times"
Ephesians 4:30-32
A profound call to practical Christian living, acting as the climax of Paul's instructions on how believers should conduct themselves. It urges followers of Christ to avoid behaviors that cause spiritual distress and instead embrace a lifestyle of radical kindness, compassion, and forgiveness.
Colossians 3:12-14
Calls believers to live out their new identity in Christ by intentionally "clothing" themselves with virtues like compassion, kindness, and forgiveness. Paul the Apostle teaches that because God chose and loved them, their relationships should be defined by grace, with love binding everything together.
1 Peter 3:7
Is a New Testament passage that instructs husbands to treat their wives with deep respect, understanding, and equality, while warning that mistreatment can disrupt a man's relationship with God.

• Forgive those that wrong you
