🌍LIFE IN THE WORD DAILY DEVOTIONAL
21/03/17
TOPIC: THE GOSPEL OF SALVATION [2]
PRAYER: Colossians: 1. 9. "For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;"
TEXT: Luke: 4. 18. "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,"
Good evening beloved, it is good to know you also a partaker of the grace of God in Christ Jesus, through faith (Which is Salvation).
Consequently, we are examining the gospel of Salvation, in order to show ourselves approved as well as being established in our redemption realities.
So in the last post we found that the totality of the gospel is good news, it all about hope to an hopeless people.
As we will see shortly, that the gospel does not have two ends, but it is one and has only one message to all nations:
" Mark: 16. 15. "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."
Notice it didn't say 'gospels' it just singular, only one home news for all creature.
Luke: 24. 47. And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem."
Apostle Paul explained it better here:
1 Corinthians: 15. 1. "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 3. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4. And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"
It's all about Jesus, how he saved the world from sins
Matthew: 1. 21. "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins"
That said...
Let's further examine our text once again:
Luke: 4. 18. "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,"
Jesus in this place was quoting from the prophesy of prophet Isaiah.
But it seems Jesus purposely left a word unquoted for emphasis.
Examine the two passages here...
Isaiah: 61. 1. "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2. To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and THE DAY OF VENGEANCE OF OUR GOD; to comfort all that mourn;"
AND,
Luke: 4. 18. "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord." (Emphasis added)
If you will notice the part Jesus did not quote " the day of vengeance.
Jesus points out to us that he did not come to condemn the world, he did not come to seek vengeance, he came to save, he came to give hope of eternal life and forgiveness of sins.
John: 3. 17. "For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved."
Luke: 9. 51. And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, 52. And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him. 53. And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem."
There was a situation that happened as above, but Jesus' overzealous disciples with little understanding of Jesus' mission on earth, they said...
Luke: 9. 54. And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?"
(Elias ties means Elijah, the same of the Old Testament)
Prior to this, this disciples just came back from their first out reach or evangelism, backed with signs and wonders. So they were probably still basking in the euphoria of the manifestations they performed on the field, coupled with Jesus' recommendation via their names were written in the book of life. So in that might, they want to rain fire upon all the Samaritan forgetting that Jesus came for them too.
Look at Jesus' reaction.
Luke: 9. 55. "But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. 56. For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village."
Straight away Jesus scolded them saying, he had not come to destroy lives, but he came to SAVE (GLORY TO GOD)
Dear, No matter how terrible your sins may be, no matter how hopeless people think your case is, I have a good news for you... Jesus paid for those sins, he came for this purpose, to save you from your sins, only believe....
And to you brother Moses incarnated, If our Lord Jesus did not come to condemn, please who are you?
(Touch continued)
God bless 👉YOU!!!
