OKORIE THE BLIND PART 2

The First Sign

The first strange incident happened many years earlier.

A goat disappeared from old Mama Ijeoma’s compound. No footprints. No broken fence. Nothing.

But someone saw Okorie that night.

Walking.

Without a stick.

Without stumbling.

His eyes… glowing faintly like embers.

The next morning he was blind again.

After that, terrible things began to happen.

The Terror of Umuaka

Okorie became a shadow that brought misery.

Farm produce vanished.

Children went missing.

Strange fires broke out at night.

Livestock were found dead with deep cuts as if by a blade guided by a careful eye.

People tried to confront him.

But something strange happened every time.

When they approached him in the daytime, he looked pitiful—helpless, blind, weak.

But at night, when evil filled his heart, his sight returned.

And with that sight came something darker.

Strength.

Speed.

Cruelty.

Soon the villagers learned a terrifying rule:

Do not cross Okorie.

Those who did suffered mysterious misfortunes.

Some fell sick suddenly.

Some lost their homes to fire.

Some simply disappeared.

The village lived under silent oppression.

The village of Umuaka slept early.

Not because the people loved the quiet of the night, but because they feared what moved in it.

They feared Okorie the Blind.

No one remembered exactly when Okorie lost his sight. Some said he was born blind. Others whispered that he offended the spirits and they cursed him. But everyone agreed on one terrible truth:

Okorie could see only when he intended to do evil.

During the day he moved like a helpless man, tapping the earth with his crooked stick, his milky eyes staring into nothingness. Children mocked him from a distance, and women pitied him.

But when darkness fell…

The blind man walked like a hunter.
