JESUS’ TEMPTATION (PART 10): MAKE USE OF THE WORD
BIBLE TEXT📖:
After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread." Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" - Matthew 4:2–4

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHt 💭
The temptation of Jesus reveals a vital truth many believers overlook: it is not enough to quote the Word of God—we must apply it rightly. Scripture is powerful, but its power is fully released only when it is used in the right context and for the right purpose.
In the wilderness, Jesus faced intense temptation after forty days of fasting. The devil challenged Him to turn stones into bread, to jump from the temple, and to bow in exchange for worldly riches. Each temptation was subtle and strategic. Interestingly, the devil did not come empty-handed; he came with scriptures. Yet Jesus did not respond with emotion, hunger, or the desire to prove His identity. He responded with the right Word for the right moment.
Jesus refused to turn stones into bread, not because He lacked power, but because He valued God’s Word above physical satisfaction. He did not jump from the temple to “test” God’s promise of angelic protection, nor did He bow to gain instant riches. He understood that misusing Scripture can be just as dangerous as ignoring it altogether.
This teaches us a crucial lesson: not every Bible verse applies to every situation. A verse taken out of context can mislead rather than guide. The devil quotes Scripture to deceive, but God gives His Word to direct our paths. Discernment, therefore, is essential.
As believers, we must grow beyond memorization into understanding. We must ask the Holy Spirit to help us know when, how, and why to apply God’s Word. Right application of Scripture strengthens our walk, guards us against deception, and empowers us to overcome temptation—just as Jesus did.
Don’t just know the Word—understand it. Don’t just quote it—apply it rightly. Let the Word of God guide your choices, shape your responses, and anchor your life in truth.

PRAYER 🙏
Lord, grant me wisdom and discernment to rightly divide and apply Your Word. Help me not just to quote Scripture, but to live it according to Your will. Teach me to recognize truth, resist deception, and walk in obedience. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
