THE CURRENCY OF MERCY
Mercy is a currency in the spirit. There are actually twelve currencies of the kingdom of God, I have taught extensively on the twelve currencies in audio recording at online morning devotions check them out on https://t.me/pastorkingnewmanlive
Mercy is the foundational currency.
The Bible gives us an important revelation about this when it says in Ephesians 2:4
“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us…”
The Greek expression translated “rich" is “plousios” which means rich, wealthy, abounding, possessing in abundance.
So Scripture presents God as being rich in mercy!!!
And you can only be rich in something that has value.
This means mercy is not a casual subject in the dealings of God with man. There is a spiritual reality, a spiritual economy, and a spiritual operation surrounding the mercy of God.
And this is why we must understand the currency of mercy.
THE WILL OF GOD AND THE MERCY OF GOD
I have often said, the greatest subject in all of Scripture is the subject of the will of God.
I defined God's will as His sovereign, predetermined, and eternal intent, governed by His divine principles, patterns, and timing, and is revealed in his thoughts, words, pursuits, plans, pleasures, desires and values.
Everything God does is consistent with His will.
His decisions and choices are according to His will.
And this is where mercy becomes extremely important because mercy functions within the circumference of God's will.
Mercy is an expression of God's sovereign compassion according to His will.
This is why Paul says in Romans 9:16:
“So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy”
Now, this reveals something important about the dealings of God.
God's mercy is not based on human merit.
It is not because a man has successfully pleased God.
It is not because man has earned it.
Romans 9:16 makes this distinction:
“So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.”
This is why I define mercy as God's compassion directed toward a person or a group of people, in spite of human merit, but according to His will.
Lamentations 3:22–23: “It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
If God is rich in mercy, then mercy is not merely a theological word.
Mercy has dimensions.
Mercy has expressions.
Mercy has operations.
Mercy has manifestations.
And in this series, we are going to be answering some questions;
What is the nature of God's mercy?
What are the expressions of God's mercy?
How does a person put himself in the path of God's mercy?
How can a person increase in the dimensions of the mercy of God?
