TITLE: God detests dishonest scales

SCRIPTURE FOCUS: Dishonest scales are an abomination to the LORD, but a just weight is His delight. Proverbs 11:1

MESSAGE
God detests dishonest scales; they cause rage and disgust to burn within Him. Why?

Dishonest scales give privilege to some and abuse others when “the Lord is the Maker of us all” (Proverbs 22:2). They appear balanced, but someone has manipulated the dial to give them the appearance of a truth they do not possess.

We must use scales of truth, but whose truth? Whose scales will give every person a fair assessment? God’s truth is not on a sliding scale; His values never change. What He considered sin in the Garden of Eden is still sin today.

The weight required to balance the scales of unrighteousness has not changed. The measure of its cost has not changed; the wages of sin is still death. Sin and death hang in the balance, and the weight remains the same: without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin (Hebrews 9:22).

The scales that bring balance to our lives must be large enough to manage the weight of the issues of our day. The scales must be accurate enough to ensure that every person, tribe, tongue, culture, and nation are treated and valued equally. They must be true enough to withstand the deception and corruption of our society – of a culture that bends, stretches, and buries the truth. A just weight is the delight of the Lord.

TITLE: That God may know my integrity.

SCRIPTURE FOCUS: Let me be weighed on honest scales, that God may know my integrity. Job 31:6

MESSAGE
Scales measure true value. When an object is placed on one side of a scale, an equal amount of weight must be put on the other to strike a precise balance between the two. We want the scales we use to be fair, balanced, and accurate.

In Genesis 23, Abraham meted out 400 shekels of silver to purchase a burial cave for his wife, Sarah. A shekel was not a coin; it was a unit of measure. Abraham piled silver on one side of the scale, and the owner placed 400 shekels – weights – on the other side. Only when the two sides came into balance was the deal struck. A balanced scale ensured every person was treated fairly and given equal consideration.

When perfect balance was achieved, the individual doing the weighing would say, “All things created equal, this scale is balanced.” As long as all aspects of the exchange remained exactly the same and nothing unexpected happened, the deal was equitable for all involved.

In a world that changes from minute to minute, we still long to know justice and the value that we carry. While the world weighs and finds us wanting, we trust in the accurate and honest measure in the hands of our loving Creator.

PRAYER

Jesus weighed you on His righteous scales and found you so valuable that He died to give you life. When the world rejects you, His arms are open wide. May that truth come alive in you today!

TITLE: He who believes and is baptized will be saved

SCRIPTURE FOCUS: He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. Mark 16:16

MESSAGE
Our human goodness and morality can only carry us so far. We try our best, but every one of us falls short of God’s glorious ideal. We are incapable of living up to His holy standards (Romans 3:23).

So, God sent His beloved Son, Jesus, to die on the Cross for us. When we believe in our hearts and confess with our mouths that God sent Jesus as the sacrifice for our sins, that He died, and that God raised Him again, our confession becomes our salvation. New life begins with this simple prayer:

“Heavenly Father, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I ask You to cleanse me from all of my sin. May the blood of the Cross wash me whiter than snow. From this day forward, I will serve Jesus as my Savior and Lord. I will read and follow God’s Word found in the Bible. Because of Jesus’ blood, I am saved, my sins are forgiven, and I am on my way to heaven. Amen.”

We lay down our old lives and take up our new Christ-centered lives through baptism. He makes us brand-new creations and gives us a fresh start.

And when the King appears in all of His glory, we will leave this world in the twinkling of an eye to live with Him in heaven forever.

TITLE: The Day of The Lord will Come

SCRIPTURE FOCUS: Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. Revelation 21:2

MESSAGE
As unexpectedly as a thief in the night, the Day of the Lord will come. The heavens will disappear with a terrible roar. The heavenly bodies will be engulfed by fire, and the earth and everything on it will be burnt to nothing (II Peter 3:10).

After this great conflagration, John saw the New Jerusalem coming down from heaven, as beautiful as a bride adorned for her groom. God declared that His home would now be among His people; He will live with us and will wipe every tear of mourning from our eyes. Death will be no more, and we will no longer experience crying, sorrow or pain.

The New Jerusalem will be a perfect square – 1500 miles on each side. The city’s foundations are adorned with stunning gemstones. Its walls are composed of jasper, its gates of pearl. The gates will never close, and the nobles of the earth will stream through to bring the glory and honor of the nations.

From the throne will flow a crystal-clear river of water of life. On either side of the river grows a tree of life, and their leaves are for the healing of the nations. The whole city will glow like pure gold. Finally, we shall see the face of our Beloved and reign with Him forever.

PRAYER
May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. May you one day enter through the gate and drink freely of the living water. Lift your eyes for our redemption draws near!

TITLE: Do you burn with the same fervor as when you first came to Jesus?

SCRIPTURE FOCUS: When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. Revelation 6:9

MESSAGE
Ignatius, the pastor of the church at Antioch, called himself Theophorous or God Bearer. For confessing that Christ lived in his heart, he was escorted to Rome in chains by a company of soldiers. There in the Colosseum, before thousands of cheering spectators, he was devoured by lions for his unshakable faith in God.

Perpetua was a 22-year-old mother and young believer preparing for baptism when she was arrested for refusing to worship the Roman empire’s deities. She cared for her infant son in prison until conditions forced her to entrust him to her mother and brother.

Her father, a pagan, visited her in prison and begged her to denounce her faith and live, but she refused. She calmly faced a raging bull in the amphitheater, straightening her tunic and her hair, to die with dignity for the faith that took her home.

The souls of those who were slain for holding fast to their witness of the Word of God now reside under the altar of heaven. They cry out to the Lord, wondering when He will avenge their blood. In Revelation 6, they are given white robes and encouraged to rest quietly for a while longer until their fellow servants on earth are martyred and join them in heaven.

TITLE: Do you burn with the same fervor as when you first came to Jesus?

SCRIPTURE FOCUS: Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Revelation 2:4

MESSAGE
Jesus – the First and the Last, the One Who was dead but now lives forevermore, the One Who holds the keys to death and hell – had a message for each of the churches of Asia, represented by seven golden lampstands.

For the church at Ephesus, he had many compliments. He commended them for their hard work, their refusal to quit, and how they would not tolerate evil pretenders. They had been patient and persistent for His name’s sake.

In spite of these admirable traits, Jesus had one thing against them: the Ephesian church had left their first love – their passion and evangelistic zeal. Jesus urged them to remember the height from which they had fallen, to repent, to turn back to that first precious love, to do the early works they had once performed. Otherwise, Jesus was on His way to remove the lampstand from its place.

Do you burn with the same fervor as when you first came to Jesus? Is His Word like fire shut up in your bones that you cannot hold back? If you are not eager to accomplish the first works that you once did, repent and turn back to Him.

Listen to what the Spirit said to the church of Ephesus and what He still speaks today: for the one who overcomes, He will give fruit from the Tree of Life in God’s paradise.

TITLE: Is He at the center of your life?

SCRIPTURE FOCUS: Then I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the seven lampstands One like the Son of Man…
Revelation 1:12-13

MESSAGE
As God unfolded the revelation to John, He showed him seven golden lampstands. In the midst of them was a person so overwhelming that John fell prostrate before Him.

The seven lampstands represent seven churches of Asia located in seven different cities. The One like the Son of Man wore a long robe with a gold sash across His chest. His eyes flamed like fire under wool-white hair, and His face blazed like the sun.

Just as Jesus stood among the lampstands, the Tabernacle of the Old Testament was situated in the center of the camp in the midst of all the tribes of Israel. When God’s Shekinah glory fell, it radiated to all of His people.

The Lord longs to be at the center of our lives. He is to be our wellspring, the bountiful and beautiful source of all the good that flows in and out of our lives. He aims to be in the middle of our marriages, the hub of our families, and at the center of our churches.

When we set our love on Him – make Him the focal point – He promises to rescue us from every trouble, to answer when we call, and to honor us (Psalm 91:14-15). Is He at the center of your life?

TITLE: Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy

SCRIPTURE FOCUS: Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near. Revelation 1:3

MESSAGE
The book of Revelation, anointed by the Holy Spirit and delivered by an angel to John on the Isle of Patmos, serves as our roadmap from today to eternity.

God promised a double blessing to the one who reads the revelation and to the one who hears it. He guarantees that blessing will flow from this book.

While many choose to focus on the antichrist, the book of Revelation is a victorious declaration of Jesus – the Alpha and Omega, the Faithful Witness, the Bright and Morning Star, and the Amen. Why did God reveal Him to the Church in these final chapters?

When Jesus came to us before, He came as the Lamb slain from the world's creation. He was mocked, despised, spat on, and betrayed by His closest friends. He hung on a Roman cross, bleeding for the remission of our sins. His cruel, humiliating death purchased our redemption.

In Revelation, God pulls back the curtain to present the King of kings and Lord of lords! He is the Root of David Who will rule the world from Jerusalem with a rod of iron. Nobles will come to pay Him homage. He came as the Lamb before, but He will return as the Lion of the tribe of Judah!

PRAYER

TITLE: Would you pass the test of loyalty?

SCRIPTURE FOCUS: No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
Matthew 6:24

MESSAGE
John, the beloved disciple of Jesus, was exiled to the island of Patmos by Roman Emperor Domitian in 95 A.D. John was over 80-years-old and the last living disciple from the original group of twelve.

Domitian’s reign was marred by fear and suspicion. Subjects of the empire were required to throw a pinch of incense into a fire which burned in front of the emperor’s statue to acknowledge the leader as their true lord – a test of loyalty. When Christians refused, they were thrown to the lions.

John opposed all emperor worship and fervently preached a “new religion” that continued to grow in spite of persecution. His devotion was to Christ alone. Domitian sentenced this “enemy of the state” to the small, rocky island.

John was surrounded by many other criminals who were forced to work in the mines and suffered harsh conditions. The church that John had pastored in Ephesus was only 36 miles away, beyond the pounding waves and the screeching seagulls.

But it was there, in that barren place, that God sent an angel with a revelation that still captivates us. John tenaciously clung to his faith and claimed Jesus as His one, true Lord. Would you pass the test of loyalty?

TITLE: The Lord is very compassionate and merciful

SCRIPTURE FOCUS: Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord—that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful. James 5:11

MESSAGE
If the Church aims to re-establish itself in Nigeria, we must be willing to endure. We cannot falter under the measure of the day. We must rise to become the shining city on a hill.

If we are persecuted, we must endure suffering as a good soldier of Christ (II Timothy 2:3). We do not pass out, we press on. We lean our shoulders into the plow and do not look back.

God is greater than any financial storm; He owns the cattle on a thousand hills. God is greater than any emotional storm; He remains our Prince of Peace. God is greater than any physical storm; He is Jehovah Rapha, our Healer. He is greater than any enemy we will ever face, an ever-present help in the time of trouble. He gives us strength to endure every hardship!

As long as we live and breathe, the best is yet to be. The Lord of Hosts promised that the final glory of this house will be greater than anything that came before, and He will pour out His peace and prosperity there (Haggai 2:9).

Press on and persevere for the prize! For those who endure to the end shall be saved!

PRAYER
May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. Don’t give up! Don’t give in to the voice of doubt. Take a stand and endure. Have faith in God. Nothing is impossible for you!
