THE BIBLE & SPIRITUAL BOOKS
Reading the Scriptures with the help of the Holy Spirit is profitable for spiritual growth and successful living. Through the scriptures we know the Lord; we are reproved, corrected, rebuked and instructed in righteousness.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (ESV)
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
We have also spiritual books written by men who have been equipped by Jesus Christ to make know and expound the scriptures for spiritual profiting. That we may understand the truth and live the life God as appointed us to live.
I can testify that my growth as been accelerated in Christ by learning from the writings of my seniors in Christ. I believe many bear similar testimony, that they have gained speed through books than reading the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation only.
It pleases God that we grow to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ but He would have us give priority to reading, studying and meditating on the Scriptures over spiritual novels and books. For as much as we eat food, we can not neglect to take water. So also as much as we feed our spirits through books we should not neglect the habit of reading, studying and meditating on the scriptures. For through this means can we filter the truth from error by the help of the Holy Spirit in Christ. Let's not be like those who are tossed by every wind of doctrine but like those who through patience and strength of the Lord become and remain rooted in Christ.
Read your bible daily, meditate on the scriptures daily, study often for it's good. Get confirmation in the scriptures for yourself as regards the truth which you have read or heard for we know in part and we speak in part.
We can't remain established if all we feed ourselves is Sunday sermon and spiritual books. If we are not careful we would become weak in spirit and re****ed spiritually.
Joshua 1:8 (ESV)
This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.
If mediating on scriptures day and night is required of those who lived in the old testament, how much more we who have obtained mercy and grace; partakers of the new testament. Therefore, learn from those who were before us and prioritize the bible over all spiritual books.
