DATE: SUNDAY JULY 16TH 2023

TOPIC: THE ROLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT III

MEMORISE: “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.” – (Ephesians 4:30)

READ: Jude 1-24 (KJV)
24. Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

MESSAGE:
Our memory verse of today reveals another very important role of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer – preserving us unto the day of redemption. ‘The day of redemption' in the memory verse is talking of the ultimate redemption when we safely arrive in the Kingdom of God. The reason is that there is no eternal assurance that once you are saved, you are forever saved. There are examples of people who started well but ended badly. For instance, after King Saul was ordained by Samuel, he prophesied and the people asked: "Is Saul also among the prophets?" (1 Samuel 10:11). Unfortunately, after King Saul got into trouble for disobeying divine instructions, he went after a familiar spirit. (1 Samuel 28:7) says:
Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor.

King Saul did this despite the fact that the Bible says in Isaiah 65:24:
And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

In John 16:7-14, we see that the Holy Spirit guides us into all - not some - truth. Many things we ought to know about God, our Saviour, ourselves, the written word of God, the devil, the world in which we live and so on are explained to us by the Holy Spirit. We cannot gain an understanding of God without the Holy Spirit. The word of God would be ordinary literature without the Holy Spirit's illumination.

The Bible says in John 16:13 that the Holy Spirit will show us things to come.

The spiritual decadence in the end-time Church has been foretold by the Holy Spirit (1 Timothy 4:1-2). It is a pity, however, that some children of God are not taking advantage of the Holy Spirit's guidance to keep us from falling. May you not fall, in Jesus' name.

PRAYER POINT:
Holy Spirit Divine, please keep me to the uttermost end. Help me to finish well and strong, in the mighty name of Jesus.

TOPIC: THE ROLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT 1

MEMORISE: “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” – (John 16:13)

READ: John 16:7-14 (KJV)
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

MESSAGE:
For the next three days, we shall be looking at the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of believers. Today we will consider His role as a Witness to Jesus Christ our Redeemer.

A very important role of the Holy Spirit is the conviction of sin, as we saw in today's Bible text. It reads in part:
And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment. (John 16:8)

Unfortunately, many people choose to be just spectators and merely watch the Holy Spirit in action - doing what only He can do, but are never partakers of it. Such people seldom allow the Holy Spirit to play His primary role of bringing them to repentance as they refuse to be remorseful for their sins. When people refuse to be convicted of their sins, they demonstrate a lack of faith in God's word, which says all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory (Romans 3:23). Such people rationalize sin and call it all sorts of nice names. This is why the Bible encourages us to confess our sins, even to one another, that we may be healed (James 5:16).

The first thing Jesus takes care of in the life of whoever He wants to heal is the issue of sin, according to Mark 2:5-12. Even after Jesus had healed an individual and found him in the temple some days later, His admonition was "...sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee" (John 5:14).

Beloved, if you have not yet confessed and forsaken your sins, allow the Holy Spirit to convict you of them. Begin to pay close attention to the details of God's requirements for holy living and you would see the Holy Spirit transforming your life far beyond all expectations.

PRAYER POINT:
Father, please empower me to live holy, in Jesus' name.

WEDNESDAY, 27 JULY 2022
TEXT: 2 KINGS 4 : 18 - 31
TOPIC: BE CALM IN THE STORM

During an unexpected storm, always remember the Lord over the storm. The Shunammite woman's hope was raised with the arrival of the son promised by the man of God. The boy grew up and started accompanying his father to the farm. But a storm arose like a 'fever' and the boy suddenly died!

Read vs. 18-20 and note how calmly the woman handled the situation. She took the dead boy straight into the guest room of the man of God, shut the door and went to the man of God at Mount Carmel. She even refused to disclose the extent of the raging storm in her heart to her husband who might have prevented her from exercising her faith in the God of Elisha. Her calm disposition allowed her to take control of her emotions. She knew that the only solution was to return to the channel God used to raise her hope from the beginning.

"Therefore, we must always have courage to calm our emotions and control our feelings, especially in the moments of storm" (Vs.26-31).

PRAYER:
Give me the courage,dear Lord, to be calm in the mists of life's storms and learn to handover all into Your hand, in Jesus name, Amen.

MONDAY, 11 JULY 2022
TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 13 : 8 - 13
TOPIC: LOVE IS THE GREATEST OF ALL AND ETERNAL

Love, among all other gifts, is eternal and the greatest of all as it "never fails" (v. 8). The gifts referred to in v. were much valued by the Corinthian Christians Just as many do today. But they are like knowing the grace of God in part. But when we understand the depth of God's love in the giving of Christ, then our knowledge is complete and perfect (vs. 9-11). We may then know how to exercise other gifts in love; not for selfishness but for the edification of the Church and for God's glory.

Other spiritual gifts are temporal and meant to build up the body of Christ but allowing love to be the regulating guide makes our relevance eternal (vs. 12, 13). We know how God gave us salvation through unmerited favour of love. Working and walking in pride are childish and must be put away from believers in Christ. Maturity is manifested in an attitude of love and shows respect to other members of the body as they equally make use of their gifts in the church. Seek that which lasts forever and "does not parade itself nor puff up" (v. 4).

QUESTION:
Is there any element of pride in you because of pride in you because of the special ability the Holy Spirit has given you?

PRAYER:
Oh Lord, may I always seek to serve You in love as I use Your gracious gift upon my life for the growth of your Church, in Jesus name

FOOD FOR THOUGHT ON THE ISSUE OF ELECTIONS IN NIGERIA

*This is the situation of our politics in Nigeria today.

*_I always smile when people pray that God should choose a good leader for us._*

Jesus was very popular, but he lost the election conducted by Pilate.

The election was between Jesus (the Saviour) and Barabbas (a robber) and Pilate represented INEC at the time.

Barabbas the robber won and Jesus the Saviour of the world lost.

*THINK ABOUT THESE RHETORICAL QUESTIONS:*

*~* Where were the 5000 he fed?

*~* What about the other 4000 men he fed too?

*~* Where were the great multitudes (Mt4:25, Mt5:1, Mk5:24) that followed him and partook of his great ministry?

*~* Where were the 10 lepers?

*~* Where were the lame, blind, deaf, dumb, leprous, withered hand, hemorrhagic and all those who were impacted by his ministry including the dead ones that came back to life, where were they?

*~* Where was the family of Lazarus and that of Jarius?

That is the problem.

*The right people will not win elections when believers refuse to participate in politics.*

_Prayer is good, but when it's time to vote, it's your votes that is counted not your prayer points!_

Go and get your *PVC* and go out to vote on election Day.

Dear Esteemed Friend,

I hope you are having a great and wonderful weekend with your friends or family members?

Sorry for sending this write up a little bit late. I just decided to send it this evening to get our attention and so that you can read and do the needful immediately.

So, I will be sharing a true life story from a distance friend with the title " CHECK ON SOMEONE TODAY AND SHOW YOU CARE"

Someone dropped a message on my WhatsApp that she wanted to do a 3D polo and a throwpillow for her son and she was referred to me.

We got chatting and we concluded our transaction.
She gave me her son's birthday and that the job should be delivered on that day.
That was the last time I heard from her, I called but she didn't pick. I left messages for her but no response.
I didn't have delivery address, nothing just her phone number. I became worried cos the sample I sent to her, no response too.
I had to go ahead with the printing so I wouldn't disappoint her son.

The evening b4 the son's birthday, I finally received a call from her number. I had one million plus one things to say to her out of anger but all the anger in me melted when it wasn't her voice.

'Good evening ma, 'I'm xyz husband and I'm aware that you are doing a job for my son. My wife passed away this morning but she promised our son that she will celebrate his 10th birthday for him so pls do deliver the job to xyz address. My son is not aware that his mom has died so pls contact the cake lady and bring the stuff together. Tell my son his mummy sent them to him. He is at my inlaws place'. Apparently, the woman has been sick for some months. She contacted all the vendors from her sick bed.

I was Speechless for a long while and just said 'ok sir'.

We delivered the job to the son. He was super excited. He got all the goodies for his birthday. Everyone was faking smile and happiness there

People are passing through a lot this period. Infact, I experienced what it means to be lonely and isolated just 8 days ago but a timely call from a friend made the difference

Some people can't express themselves properly, some don't have any trusted person around them.

Be patient with people don't feel high and mighty and think people don't have a life of their own. Don't talk down or look down on people as if you are more than who you are...

Everybody is going through alot this period. The least you can do is to be nice to those around you and if possible show little care.

Check on someone whom you haven't heard from, just a phone call could put smile on their faces. Everything is not about money. Although, money will also go and long way!!

*TOPIC: PREACH THE WORD*

When persecution made believers scatter to as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch of Syria, they used the opportunity to preach the Word to the Jews. The believers who went to Antioch took the opportunity to preach to the Gentiles.

The preaching by these believers made many people come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Whenever we have the opportunity, we should make Christ known. We should preach Him at the filing station, Motor Park, school, wedding ceremony, burial ceremony, town meeting, in the vehicle, on the farm, in the office, etc.

Speak the Word to others but do not let what you preach condemn you; be the doer of the Word.

*QUESTION:*
How often do you use the opportunity you have to preach Christ?

*PRAYER:*
Help me, O Lord not to fail in using the opportunities You give me to make You known, Amen.
