(A daily devotional from Rev Okeypraise).

BOWELS OF MERCY.

"And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee."
Luke 10:30-35.

According to our text, the priest and the Levi took a look on the wounded man; and passed another way!
The Levi!
The priest!

I remember what Jesus said to Peter three times, in John 21:15-17:

"So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep."

What did Jesus ask Peter if he loved more?

FEED MY LAMB, FEED MY SHEEP.

Are we really feeding the sheep.. with the right meal? or, are we milking(taking from) the sheep?

Do we still have bowels, nay, atom of mercy?

We have seen a lot.
We have heard a lot.
We have encountered a lot.
A lot to say....about people's flaws and our disappointments about them.
We have heard a lot of unthinkable things happening among/within the christian circles; so bad even concerning the clergy fold.
What have we not heard?

However, it is necessary to point out that Jesus foretold these in
Matthew 24:12-13 "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved."

Ignorance of the law, they say, is no excuse.
At the days of ignorance...
"And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:"(Acts 17:30).

Do not be misled by the failings of others. Bowels of mercies were put within you at creation. Allow them to gush out to give others hope, while waiting for the desired change; and the return of Jesus, for the saints.
Be among those that shall ENDURE (holding on,holding forth) TO THE END.

PRAY:
DAY 66.

Lord, I surrender myself afresh to be used as a vessel of honour...
Help me to remember Hebrews 13:2.

SPEAK OUT WHAT GOD HAS WRITTEN CONCERNING YOU.

"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish.
Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.
For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee."

Isaiah 41:10-13.

PRAY: speak over your situation now, using the scriptures (our text).

GOD NEVER FAILS.

"(For the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them."

Deuteronomy 4:31.

God had covenants with the early father's of faith. God does not falter in His words. He will always recognize the agreements with anyone.
Whatever be the promise and/or agreement He had/has with you, delayed it may appear, yet, God never fails.

When you understand His ways, when you have an idea how He has operated in the past, you will realize that His ways are not our ways.

Yet, He never fails.

When we face different trials in life, and all things seem not to be working out, be assured that God cannot fail.

Whatever be the promise, He will fulfill such. Except if we run away from such promise.

God cannot leave you alone on the road. He did not abandon Abraham when He was about to sacrifice Isaac. Isaac made a wonderful observation which was strong enough to throw Abraham off balance. But Abraham knew and believed that God could not fail him.(Genesis 22:1-13)

Remember that God allows His most reliable soldiers to face the hardest battles.
You are one of the reliable soldiers who God can trust. He will never fail you.

PRAY: lead me oh Lord in the part of righteousness.

GOD IS ABLE.

"Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen."

Ephesians 3:20-21.

Take a look at the situations around.

I am instructed to inform/remind you that God is able to handle it.
God can take care of the situations exceedingly.

When challenges glare at you;
Remind yourself firmly that God is able to handle it.

How He will do it is not your work.
Play your role by doing what you should do (according to His will), watch Him do that which only Him can do.

PRAY:
Lord,I ask for mercy in anyway I disregarded Your might. I surrender ..... situations to you.
I believe that You can handle.... for me!

"And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?"

Luke 18:7-8.

This question needs to be answered on a personal note.

Many Christians depend on the faith of others to survive.

Many join others in fellowships/congregations because someone (or some conditions) invited them.
They will remain there as long as the person who invited them remains there.

Do we have faith enough to believe that God will fight our seen and unseen battles?

Do we have faith enough to believe that God will heal us?

Do we have faith enough to believe that God is ahead of us in all situations?

We trust the automobile drivers and pilots to take us to our destinations.

We believe that the doctors can handle our health challenges.

We believe that our houses, built by engineers, etc can shelter us.

Can we trust God and his words concerning us?

Can you trust God for answers to your prayers?

Can your faith speak enough for you?

Can your faith really move God into action for you?

PRAY: help my unbelief oh Lord

DYNAMICS OF DWELLING TOGETHER.

"Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;
As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore."
Psalm 133:1-3.

Show me anywhere that brethren take decisions and act in one accord, I will show you a place where the blessings of God are immeasurably touched.

Our text says it is good and pleasant.

When brethren dwell in rancor, little is achieved.

Dwelling together does not mean the absence of misunderstanding. Individuals have different views on issues of life. Let us learn to acknowledge the truth that everyone has something to offer. In our eyes, someone might be very stupid. But that same person could be very useful to others,(and to us) in certain areas.

Recognize that you too can be found wanting in some areas.

This portion is a pointer to aid us.

"Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;"
(Romans 12:9-10).

It should be noted that it cannot be easy to dwell together. This is the reason we are expected to live peaceably IF POSSIBLE.
"If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men."
(Romans 12:18).

Expect the friction; it is part of life.

Expect that everyone cannot be a perfectionist; yet all of us have at least, an input to make.

All of us cannot be short;
All of us cannot be in the same profession, etc.

Grow up to tolerate others.

PRAY: Lord, I know that You choose me (John 15:16) even when I wasn't ready. Help me to tolerate others even when they are not perfect.

WATCH YOUR HEART.

"Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves."
Philippians 2:3.

It is almost very easy to assume that one is right and others wrong;

Others lower in status than we are;

Other's thought a bit inferior to ours, and so on.

Our text mentions that nothing be done by vainglory. In other words, don't play the god over others.
Don't allow yourself to believe that you are particularly and perpetually more important than others.
"There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." (Proverbs 16:25).

Again, one's heart can deceive him into believing the opposite of the real situation.

"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it"
(Proverbs 17:9).

Did you notice:
"deceitful "?

Don't push this to others. Your heart could be deceiving you to see others as deceitful and wicked.

Watch your heart.
Ensure that your heart is not deceiving you. Be sure that you are not the one despising others out of a wicked heart.

If you are being despised by others, remember that you are created to impress God!

God only;

Not to impress others.

Don't be depreciated because of any external thing. Your real value is not just on the physical. Your value is within.

Watch your heart!

PRAY: create in me a clean heart oh Lord.

SEE GOD IN THE PICTURE.

"For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth."

Romans 9:17.

Sometimes we blame the wrong persons when things go wrong.

Let us understand that sometimes God also allow certain things to happen in order to show forth His glory.
According to our text today, God raised Pharaoh to manifest Himself in Egypt and all over the world.

When the boat was tossed about by the wind, the disciples thought that Jesus was a wrong spirit when He appeared walking on the sea! He said to them: ".................., Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid."
(Matthew 14:27).

When God and the evil one took a decision over Job, things began to happen negatively around Job. Job was not aware that God was boasting with him.
(Job 2:3-7).

God is making a name for Himself with/through your life!

When things go wrong;
When things are not going as planned by you, consider,
Proverbs 19:3. Proverbs 16:1. Check also Lamentations 3:40.

If the situation continues, then remember, God is at work, achieving goals through and with your life.

PRAY: Dear Lord, give me the grace to always be humble enough to check myself and return back to the track Your designed for me. Help me to recognize when You are at work,oh Lord.

AT HIS FEET, DAILY.

Sunday, September 25.

NUMBER YOUR DAYS.

"LORD, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.
For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.
Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.
In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.
For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.
Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.
For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.
The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.
So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
Return, O LORD, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants.
O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil.
Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children.
And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it."
Psalm 90:1-17(12).

Our text/passage today informs us that (by reason of strength) we are given to live up to eighty years.

Then, in verse 12 particularly, the writer, Moses, requests that God teach us to number our days..... that we might give our heart to wisdom.

Now relate.

Assuming you have eighty years to live. Number your days!

How long do you have more to stay?

How long have you lived?

Did you spend, invest, or waste the years that are past?

If you are sixty years, it means you have about twenty years more.

Give your heart to wisdom!

Invest your time.

Don't waste your time in gossip, talebearing and busybody in other people's affairs.

There's room for a positive change within the years left for you.

PRAY: ask for grace to always work in a manner of Ephesians 5:15-16.
