Why me, O Lord? is a question that rises from a place of deep pain—one that many people, across time and faith, have whispered in moments of confusion and hardship. It’s not a sign of weak faith; it’s a sign of being human.
Sometimes, suffering feels unfair, like a burden placed on us without warning or reason. We look around and wonder why others seem at peace while we struggle to stay afloat. In those moments, it’s easy to feel forgotten, singled out, or even punished. But suffering is not always a sign of God’s absence—it can exist even in the presence of His love.
Faith teaches that trials are not meaningless. They may not always make sense immediately, but they often shape us in ways comfort never could. Through pain, we discover strength we didn’t know we had. Through waiting, we learn patience. Through loss, we come to understand what truly matters. Even when we cannot see it, there can be a purpose unfolding—quietly, slowly, and often beyond our understanding.
The question “why me?” can gradually become “what now?” Instead of only asking why the pain exists, we begin to seek how to move through it, how to grow from it, and how to hold on to hope in the middle of it. God does not promise a life without storms, but He promises not to leave us in them.
So when your heart feels heavy and the question won’t go away, speak it honestly. Cry if you need to. But also remember: you are not alone in your suffering. There is grace even here, strength being built even now, and a story still unfolding—one that does not end in pain, but in purpose.
