DAY 17
SERIES: I AM CHRISTLIKE
TOPIC: Living Like Christ (1)
TEXT: 1 John 2:6 NIV
6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.
God did not create man because He needed a servant. He created man because He wanted someone who would manifest His character and His nature. If we forget this truth, it is easy to get sidetracked into imagining that service for God is the primary purpose of our salvation in Christ. This is the mistake that many believers have made.
Our Father in heaven and the Holy Spirit in our hearts are both working towards one goal - that we might become like Jesus. The more we become like our Lord in character, the more we will live on earth as He lived. What is this Character of Jesus Christ? How did He live his life on earth? Briefly let us examine the character of our Lord Jesus Christ while on earth as Man:
1. He had love and was passionate to all. His love was greater than anything. As Christians, we are called to do the same.
John 15:9 (NKJV) “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. “
John 15:3 “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”
John 13:34 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”
Love covers a multitude of sins. When we love people and love God, we are obeying Him.
PRAYER: Father may your love envelop and radiate through me to the world in Jesus name.
2. He showed Empathy. When the woman who committed, adultery was brought to Jesus, He showed empathy by understanding this woman and sharing in her pain, hurt, shame and humiliation. Instead of judging her harshly, He extended love and mercy instead.
PRAYER: Oh God, help me not to be judgmental and may I not turn a blind eye to any form of evil in Jesus name.
3. He lived a life of obedience; obedience to God and authority and demonstrated it to us. Jesus did not claim relationship to the Father. He gave us the reason why His Father loved Him. John 15:10.
When you love, you obey. And obedience was in Jesus’ character.
PRAYER: Father, obedience is key to my success and riches, I am willing and determine to live a life of obedience, help me in Jesus name.
4. He was a good listener. John 8:26 “I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I heard from Him.”
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17
PRAYER: Father may I not be preoccupied to the point of not listening to others in Jesus name.
5. He was a humble man and announced it Himself. “I am gentle and humble in heart.” Matthew 11:29. What a truly great leader. God honors the humble because they don’t seek their honor.
“And I do not seek My own glory; there is One who seeks and judges.”
John 8:50
“Jesus answered, “If I honor Myself, My honor is nothing. It is My Father who honors Me, of whom you say that He is your God.”
John 8:54
PRAYER: Oh Lord, you are my perfect example of Humility, help me to stoop willingly and joyfully low in life in Jesus name.
6. He was the light of men, which is the example how men should live. Let holiness and righteousness be features of your daily life and let your good characters preach Jesus among men. Hebrews 12:14.
PRAYER: King of Glory, You set me apart to be a light in the world of darkness, help me to live as such in the name of Jesus.
7. He showed Grace and Forgiveness (John 8:7), On the cross of calvary he still forgive his killers. He submitted to abuses of men without fighting back. He accepted ill-treatment and suffered wrongfully. Your case isn’t between you and your oppressors but between you and God and thus He will fight for you. He is the righteous Judge. 1 Peter 2:19-23.
PRAYER: Father, Forgiveness is one of my greatest weapon of victory, success, and riches, help me constantly forgive anyone that wrongs me in Jesus name.
8. He was holy and undefiled. He never committed sin nor told a lie, as those whose mouths are full of lies in the name of protecting self. He committed Himself to Him who judges righteously. 1 Peter 1:15-16.
PRAYER: Father, I know that without holiness I cannot see you. Help me as I fight this battle in Jesus name.
9. He was Focus to His Goal. Jesus was not a noisemaker or storyteller. He was in the business of His Father. He had to accomplish His assignment and thus nothing outside the assignment took His time. As a Christian, mind what is taking your time, and stick to the Word of God.
PRAYER: I am determined to remain focus to all you had set before me, help me to walk on this path of success in Jesus name.
10. Colossians 3:12
As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord * has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
