COMPARING PRISCILLA AND DEBORAH

Priscilla and Aquila were to the New Testament what Deborah and Lapidoth were to the Old. While Deborah was a political leader at the national level, Priscilla was a spiritual leader at the church level. Lapidoth was not intimidated or threatened by Deborah's apostolic grace. Neither was Aquila cowed by Priscilla's more energetic drive.

Deborah submitted to Lapidoth at home in the same way Priscilla submitted to Aquila in the family. The tensions of work outside did not create disharmony within the home. Deborah commanded the army of which her husband was probably a recruit. Similarly, Priscilla's more energetic commitment to God as a spiritual leader did not affect her commitment to her husband as a follower at home. The attitudes of Deborah and Priscilla testify to the fact that one can be a leader at one level and a follower at another.

In this new season, a leader must be ready to follow and the follower must be willing to lead, depending on the will of God. The one-person ministry in which responsibility is concentrated is no longer relevant in the season of a new beginning. God is raising a team ministry in which the head is as important as the tail. The new move demands an interactive flow of different gifts and talents in an intertwining mesh like a spider's web. This calls for the networking of potentials. No one man or woman can complete the work alone.

The marriages of Deborah and Priscilla are prophetic pointers to the fact that God can anoint a woman in a particular area more than her husband without the husband being jealous or offended. Many husbands, with inferiority complexes, bully and hinder their wives from manifesting the great potentials God has deposited in them. The talents of many women have been lost in the graveyards dug by insecure husbands who bury their wives' potentials even when they are not yet dead. This should not be.

THE ARROGANT KING AND KING’S RING

There is nothing impossible with God. A man once disapproved of the way the people in his town worship their king. He felt the king should be respected alright, but the only God should be worshiped. The king got to know about the man’s opinion. Thinking he was against his rule, the king summoned the man and threw a challenge at him. “You must prove to me that your God is really alive and the only one to be worshiped”. The king told the man “If you can, I will spare your life but if you can’t you will be a dead man”.

The king removed his royal ring and threw it into the ocean, telling the man to bring back the ring in 30 days or be hanged publicly. The man went home, knowing full well that his God lives. The month ended, but he did not panic. On the very last day of the month, he went to market to buy fish. There was no fish, except the intestines of a large fish whose flesh had been purchased. He had an impression to buy the intestines. He did so and while cleaning the fish at home a knife touched an object which turned out to be the king’s ring.

“To subvert a man in his cause, The Lord approveth not. Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?” (Lamentations 3:36-37).

Remember that God is your very presents help in time of trouble. When they ask you “where is your God”, tell them that the God that answereth by fire will one day answer you.
