Matthew 9:16-17
No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse. 17 Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilt, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”

✓ Everyone you meet is a product of an ideology.

✓ Everybody is a student of a school of thought or more.

✓ Why teaching is superior to feeling is that feeling is immediate, but teaching is ultimate.

✓ The override of feelings over teaching is often temporal.

✓ An ideology forms a foundation in the thought of someone and checkmate other information the person receives.

✓ We read and understand things from the dominant thought of our lives. Those dominant thoughts are a product of the school system.

✓ Experiences too, can make us students of a school of thought.

✓ Why you must not joke with the dominant thought of anyone you must take seriously is that when what you say conflicts with their dominant thoughts, they revolt against it, even when it's the truth.

✓ Why seasons raise different breeds of relevant individuals is because someone whose wineskin is filled with a school of thought always finds it difficult to accept a higher ideology.

✓ Everyone has a wine skin. When yours is filled with the old wine, it can't take the new.

✓ Every impartation imposes its limitations on its students (2 Corinthians 3:14-17).

✓ Some people accept new ideologies but still struggle with their former interpretation.

1. Some Pharisees gave their lives to Christ but were under the bo***ge of some Mosaic precepts (Acts 15:1-5).

2. There are some believers, priests inclusive, who carry over certain idolatry practices into Christianity.

3. Many single people carry over their singles mindset into marriage.

✓ There will always be a regurgitation of former thoughts you must resist. Paul was in that situation at a time (Romans 7:18-25).

✓ Dealing with former impartation is a continuous battle we must face.

✓ The early church had its fair share of conflict. Their conflict-resolution mechanism was what kept them healthy (Acts 15).

✓ It was the Apostles and elders that dealt with conflicts in the church, not everyone (Acts 15:1-6, 23).

THE SAMARIAN-WELL EXPERIENCE
✓ A Samaritan woman came to draw water from the well and Jesus asked her for a drink. She brought up ethnic bias.

✓ Ethnic bias shields people from certain blessings and privileges they should have accessed. (If you know the gift of God and who it is who says to you, "Give me a drink".

✓ "Go call your husband". She was not righteous.

✓ The Samaritan woman in Acts 4 was not righteous but religious. She was defending a place of worship without having an active relationship with Him that is worshipped.

✓ An active relationship with God guarantees righteousness. Anything outside it is mere religious rituals.

✓ It is possible for people to worship what/who they don't know (John 4:21-24).

✓ Worship is not about the place but the realm.

One of the major things that accepting Christ does for us is to deal with former impartations by the renewing of the mind.

Jesus told His disciples a story highlighting the need to network with your currency and at the end of the story, he advised them to make friends for themselves (Luke 16:1-12). If Jesus Christ would advise you to "Make friends for yourselves", then you must not joke with that counsel. In the story that Jesus told, the steward who was about to lose his job admitted his inadequacies. He knew he didn't have the strength for menial jobs and had an enormous ego that he couldn't beg, so he decided to trade with the currency at his disposal that was slipping out of his hand.

When the master of the steward learnt how the steward depended on what he had access to and made friends, he was impressed. Jesus admitted that the sons of this world understand the use of the currency available with them to make friends, more than sons of light and he added that we should make friends with the currency available with us. You don't network with an empty hand. People network with the values and services they can offer. If you must trade meaningfully, there must be something that you are bringing to the table. You are not and cannot be the table.

Why make friends? Because problems are solved in contacts. Contact is significant. Having a rich contact can enrich your mindset and influence your net worth. Problems are solved in contact. Who you know counts. In some cases, who you know that identifies with you can magnify the value of what you have. Those who know important people and have content will enjoy speed more than those with content but lack the needed contacts. Your content influences how your contacts relate to you. Networking is one of the beauties of making contact.

A meaningful contact can upgrade your life and status regardless of your content and current reality. When Joseph brought Ephraim and Manasseh to Jacob, Jacob depended on his power as the custodian of the Abrahamic legacy at the time to upgrade Ephraim and Manasseh from grandchildren to sons. So you don't see the tribe of Joseph in the bible but you see the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh. Their contact with Jacob made them share in Israel with their uncles.

How fast problems are solved is determined by the contacts available to the fellow with a problem. The value of your contacts determines the speed at which you solve your problems. Problems stay longer when we don't have access to contacts who can solve them. Anytime God wants to solve problems on earth, he talks to the host of heaven and men who are privileged to key into his agenda. He once said "Who will persuade Ahab to go up, that he may die at Ramoth Gilead?" (1 Kings 22:19-20). On another occasion, he said, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" (Isaiah 6:7).

Jesus advised that we make friends. Friends or contacts are not just desired. Contacts are made. You get intentional about making contacts. You put in work around making meaningful friends. You can't make friends if you are not friendly. A man who has friends must himself be friendly (Proverbs 18:24). Saying "I don't like making friends" or "I don't have friends" are the words of inexperienced folks. It is understandable if you don't have many friends but not having any at all doesn't speak well about your person. Two things were outstanding in Joseph's journey: He met people and through value, created an impression that earned him contacts.

A woman who was not even the host of Jesus, nor invited, came to where he was invited for a meal, and through a sensitive and calculated act, delivered the value that earned her a spot in eternity (Matthew 26:6-13, Luke 7:36-50). The timely words of a thief on the cross earned him the honour of being the first to enter paradise with Jesus Christ (Luke 23:39-43). Not all the meaningful contacts you made must be your friends but you need them. Having someone's number on your phone doesn't make the person your contact. The person becomes your contact when he/she recognise you for a value or service you render.

Jesus was conscious of friendship, so he didn't reject any invitation for a meal. Jesus suggested dining in the house of Zachaeus when he saw the effort of Zachaeus to see him (Luke 19:1-10). Many people faulted that move but it produced results. People are drawn more to God from friendship and love than from the threat of hell. Salvation came to the house of Zachaeus because Jesus did the needful. There are people whom God gave to you (Burden bearers, mighty men and vision supporters). Don't lose them in the stupid display and defence of rascality.

The service today was amazing. It is always amazing to be in God's presence. The title of the message is THE EFFECTUAL PRAYER.

James 5:16-18
Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

✓ Prayer works. Whoever is doubting the potency of prayers doesn't know how to pray and has not prayed enough.

✓ Prayer works. But so many things are put in place for prayer to work.

The operational words in the above scripture are "Effectual", "Fervent", "Righteous man".

√ Effectual is producing or able to produce the desired result.

√ Fervent is exhibiting or marked by intense feelings: Zealous.

√ Righteousness means having a right stand with God.

So when you have a right stand with God and pray the right way with calm intensity, God will answer.

✓ It is possible to have the genuine desire to pray but still pray amiss.

James 4:3
You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

✓ Nobody prays well without the help of the Holy Spirit. There is a limitation in everyone: The weakness of not knowing what we should pray for the way we ought.

Romans 8:26-27
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

✓ Someone can invest so much effort, time and resources in the wrong direction and end up getting frustrated. With the Holy Spirit, we enjoy direction and precision in everything.

✓ Under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, a preacher can go outside his prepared sermon to say something to save lives (Bishop Oyedepo and the suya couple).

✓ Prayer is beyond the vain repetition of words. It is called "Vain repetition" because multiplying words doesn't make them effective.

Matthew 6:7
And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.

✓ The Holy Spirit is our tour guide in the place of prayer. He helps us evade and eventually outgrow our vanities that represent satan in our lives.

✓ Some things are idols in our hearts. They are the strongholds of vanity that represent Satan in our lives.

✓ Prayer is an act of communicating with God. You communicate better with God when there is an existing relationship and active fellowship.

✓ There are always things God says to men to stay with them. His stay is sustained in the lives of men by the things He says.

Don't joke with the things God says to you to stay with you.

Every man carries God in the measure of the things He says to them to stay with them.

The God who in sundry times and diverse manners spoke to men to stay with them has not stopped speaking to stay (Heb 1:1-2).

Job admitted at a point that God's secrets dwelled in his tabernacle and His intimate friendship blessed his home (Job 29:1-3).

The seeking prophet said "I will stand on my watch and set me upon the tower and watch to see what He will say to me" (Hab 2:1-2). Watch to see what God says to you from the scripture, inspired men and the proven voices of counsel in your life.

Don't forget that God speaks to stay. As long as He is still speaking, He is around. God's presence is more potent than the circumstances in our lives.

Ahab, at one time, was determined to recover Ramoth-Gilead, an Israeli city that was taken by the Syrian King. He spoke with Jehoshaphat, King of Judah who supported him and followed him to the war. In that battle for the recovery of Ramoth-Gilead, the Syrian King, who was also determined not to lose the city he had taken from Israel, had commanded thirty-two captains of his chariot not to engage anyone in battle but only with Ahab. He was so prepared to keep the city that he had a special squad set up for Ahab in battle when he came for the city.

An Elite team for a man coming to recover what he lost showed how prepared Ben-Hadad was to keep Ramoth-Gilead. Ramoth-Gilead was originally designated in ancient times to be a city of refuge (Joshua 21:38). Gilead is a place of healing (physical and emotional). So taking one of its major cities was a shame and a great loss to the Israelis. Restoring it to its rightful owners was something the King of Syria had a determination not to do. I realise practically that there are special squads assigned by emperors of environments and extractions when people want to do the unusual in changing the status quo.

The Elite forces differ, depending on what they want to achieve. I heard a story of how a young vibrant pastor was sent to a location for a ministry assignment. The man went to the location with his family and after a while, he took a mistress from the town and impregnated her. The General Overseer was surprised that this young and focused minister went to the place and got distracted. So he was recalled to the headquarters and a more mature minister was sent to the location. The more mature minister took a second wife after a while in that town. The same thing happened to the third pastor who was sent there.

The General Overseer of the ministry went there himself to know the mystery that made focused and vibrant ministers, all of a sudden, struggle with lust and multiply women in their lives. He eventually crushed the special squads in the territory that kept decimating the consecration of those pastors. Many locations have special squads assigned against individuals who want to initiate tangible change. Some elite team of dark forces have a standing order to pull down anyone who wants to rise above the lineal limitations. The enforcers of the constitutions of many extractions are continuously empowered through sacrifice to mock efforts and silence the voices of revolution.

If you know that some captains have been assigned to decimate your value, you will be conscious of protection as you pursue purpose. Many people became victims of high-level deception that made them lose so much that they couldn't recover. Are you on a journey of recovery? Understand that certain people who took from you are not willing to let go, so you must plan well, behave wisely and have the fortitude to withstand the assault of resistance until victory is declared.

Thank you Daddy for yielding to the call of God over your life in a sacrificial, consistent and purpose driven way that it has become a worthy example and a standard to many. Oh, Give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples!

Oh, Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

✓ There are so many reasons we have to give God thanks for.

✓ But many people are too busy and selfish to appreciate God.

✓ If gratitude is cheap, everyone would be grateful.

Luke 17:11-19
Now it happened as He went to Jerusalem that He passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. 12 Then as He entered a certain village, there met Him ten men who were lepers, who stood afar off. 13 And they lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” 14 So when He saw them, He said to them, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And so it was that as they went, they were cleansed. 15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16 and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan. 17 So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? 18 Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” 19 And He said to him, “Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well.”

✓ Jesus healed ten people who had leprosy but one deemed it fit to return to give glory to God.

✓ One out of ten gives a clear picture of the percentage of people who understood gratitude.

✓ They all asked for mercy and when they were shown mercy, nine didn't see any reason to give thanks.

✓ Most things we enjoy today are things we once prayed about but very few people returned the glory to God.

✓ As wonderful as human determination is, it has limitations.

If it has not been the Lord who has been on our side, Psalms 124:1-8

✓ It is in human nature to take for granted what was given to them with ease.

✓ Many people were honoured more than they deserve but they are too foolish to recognise and appreciate it.

✓ God gave the Israelis on their journey from Egypt to Canaan, manna for forty years.

Deuteronomy 8:3
So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.

Deuteronomy 8:16
Who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do you good in the end.

✓ Manna tastes like wafers made with honey.

Exodus 16:31.
And the house of Israel called its name manna. And it was like white coriander seed, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

✓ When the soul of the Israelis got discouraged, they called the manna that God gave them, worthless. That offended God so much that He sent fiery serpents among them.

Numbers 21:4-6.
Then they journeyed from Mount Hor by the Way of the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom; and the soul of the people became very discouraged on the way. 5 And the people spoke against God and against Moses: “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and our soul loathes this worthless bread.” 6 So the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and many of the people of Israel died.

If God who is JUST couldn't tolerate ingratitude, then men will deal more mercilessly with that attitude. Ingrates never go far. Be grateful. Gratitude is not cheap.

In a certain village, ten lepers met with Jesus and pleaded that He had mercy on them and healed them. Jesus told them to go and show themselves to the priests. As they were on their way to show themselves to the priests, they were cleansed. Only one of them returned to appreciate Jesus for the healing. Jesus asked "Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?". Jesus expected them to all return in gratitude but only one did. It may surprise you to know that of all ten, the only one who returned was the foreigner among them. The other nine were Israelis.

Gratitude is not common. It is more of a revelation than an instruction. Jesus didn't instruct the lepers to return in gratitude when they get healed but expect them to know and do it. Why was it that only the foreigner came back in gratitude? We can get so familiar and entitled to things that we don't see reasons to give thanks. God fed the Israelis who left Egypt for Canaan with manna. Manna had the taste of wafers made with honey (Exodus 16:31). But the Israelis got so familiar and entitled that they loathe it and called it worthless (Numbers 21:4-6).

God was so angry with the Israelis and sent fiery serpents among them that killed many of them. If God can't tolerate ingratitude, don't do that with men. Be grateful for everything you enjoy from both God and men. Many people are so stupid not to recognize the favour that was done for them even when they understand that they don't deserve it. Don't be in that number. Gratitude is not common. Stop making people know that gratitude is a currency you can't afford. People who are not grateful both to God and men cannot enjoy continuous support. All who made a difference enjoyed continuous support. Gratitude makes that possible.

Romans 11:29
For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

It is possible for someone to have a call from God but uses a method that doesn't please God. Because gifts and calls are irrevocable, someone can go AWOL even with God's call on his life.

When you grow in knowledge, you will understand that building according to the pattern shown is more important than the growth and result you are celebrating outside the given pattern.

Can we talk about growth for a while? Not all growth is healthy. I celebrate growth but understand that not all forms of growth are godly, healthy or purposeful. Remember, cancer and tumor are equally forms of growth but are deadly to the body.

Balaam was one man who started well. He had a reputation that whoever he blesses is blessed and whoever he curses is cursed. But he at a point got blinded by desire. The blindness was so much that the prophet couldn't see an Angel that his donkey easily saw.

Scripture gave an account of Balaam, the man called of God, using sorcery for his call. That the Spirit of God comes on him doesn't validate the use of sorcery

Numbers 24:1-2
Now when Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord to bless Israel, he did not go as at other times, to seek to use sorcery, but he set his face toward the wilderness. 2 And Balaam raised his eyes, and saw Israel encamped according to their tribes; and the Spirit of God came upon him.

Do you know that Balaam tried on different occasions to make God curse Israel when it was clear to him that God wanted him to bless them? Deuteronomy 23:5 and Joshua 24:9-10 tells that Balaam wanted to curse Israel but God didn't permit it.

Balaam eventually gave Balak the plan on how to weaken the Israelis and make them vulnerable.

Revelation 2:14
But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality.

Numbers 25:1-3
Now Israel remained in Acacia Grove, and the people began to commit harlotry with the women of Moab. 2 They invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and bowed down to their gods. 3 So Israel was joined to Baal of Peor, and the anger of the Lord was aroused against Israel.

Although with a call from God, his pattern of ministry made scripture call him a soothsayer and he ended badly.

Joshua 13:22
The children of Israel also killed with the sword Balaam the son of Beor, the soothsayer, among those who were killed by them.

Balaam started well but became blinded by desire so he deviated. No matter how glorious your call and gift is, if you don't stick to the pattern, you will tilt to sorcery without even knowing. It is in pattern that preservation is guaranteed. Provision is potent in pattern. All who arrived preserved sticked to the pattern regardless of the pressure.

2 Peter 2:15-16
They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16 but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet.
