*HEZEKIAH'S PRAYER*
*THE WORD*
Isaiah 38:1-2 (NIV)
*”In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the LORD says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.” Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD”
Yesterday, our devotional focused on Hezekiah’s cry to God for deliverance from a national crisis. But there was another prayer he prayed that carries an equally powerful lesson for us as believers. This time, the crisis was not national; it was deeply personal.
In Isaiah 38, the prophet Isaiah came to Hezekiah with a painful message that the king was terminally ill and would soon die. Faced with this devastating news, Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to God.
Once again, his prayer was a desperate appeal for mercy. He asked God to remember how he had walked before Him faithfully and wholeheartedly, seeking to do what was pleasing in His sight. And God heard him.
Before Isaiah had even left the palace, God sent him back with a new message: Hezekiah's prayer had been heard, and fifteen more years would be added to his life.
When Hezekiah had nothing else to present before God, he could point to a life that had been spent walking faithfully with Him. His years of devotion had not been wasted. His service to God had become a testimony before heaven.
Never believe that your labour for God is in vain. Every prayer you have prayed, every sacrifice you have made, every person you have helped, every time you have served when nobody noticed, and every act of obedience is known to God. Your service may appear forgotten by men, but it is never forgotten by God. So, keep serving.
*LET US PRAY*
Lord, help me to remain faithful even when I cannot see the reward of my service. Let my life be a testimony of wholehearted devotion to You. Remember my labour, strengthen me to keep serving, and let my faithfulness produce a harvest in due season. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
