TOPIC: GIVER OF ETERNAL LIFE

TEXT: JN. 3:13-17, 11:25-26

John 3
¹³ No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.
¹⁴ And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
¹⁵ that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
¹⁶ For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
¹⁷ For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

John 11
²⁵ Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.
²⁶ And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?"

COMMENTARY:
Religious rites are not sufficient for salvation. The pre-requisite told by Jesus to Nicodemus is valid forever. Jesus - the giver of eternal life knows exactly what it takes to get eternal life. Firstly, "You must be born again" (Jn. 3:3). Jesus has power over life and death. Whoever believes in Him, though dead, shall live again. He demonstrated this to the thief on the right on the cross. After His mission on earth, He went back to sit at the right hand of God.

POINT OF EMPHASIS: Eternal life is granted to only those who believe in Jesus.
PRAYER POINT: Grant me grace, Lord Jesus, to end my Christian race with You in Your kingdom.

¹² "And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.
¹³ I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last."
¹⁴ Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.
¹⁵ But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.

COMMENTARY:
The warning in Revelation 22:10-14, calls for action. John was not instructed to seal up what he was shown like Daniel who was told to seal the message (Dan. 12:4-12). The message in our text is relevant for people of all generations. The message from the Alpha and Omega should prompt believers who wish to live eternally with the Lord Jesus re-examine their ways and re-adjust if need be.

POINT OF EMPHASIS: The 'eternal one is coming with His rewards. Take heed to His warning.

PRAYER POINT: Give me grace O Lord, to live righteously in order to receive a good reward.

COMMENTARY:
Under the Old Testament, people offered the blood of unblemished animals for their cleansing. The ritual has effectively cleansed anyone; what they did was a
symbol of the blood of Jesus offered as final and perfect sacrifice for sin. The blood of Jesus is a sure guarantee for both the Old Testament saints and believers till eternity. Jesus is the acceptable Mediator.

POINT OF EMPHASIS: Jesus is the eternal Mediator between God and man.

PRAYER POINT: Let Your sacrifice be enough for me in all situations.

COMMENTARY:
Though Jesus appeared in the flesh as prophesied in the Bible, He is the Messiah.
Prophet Micah described Him as a ruler whose going forth has been from of Old, from everlasting, from the day of eternity (Mic. 5:2). Isaiah says that of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end.
Micah's prophecy corresponds with Matt. 2:1 which pointed out Jesus as the Messiah whose origin is from Heaven.

POINT OF EMPHASIS: Jesus' reign is without an end

PRAYER POINT: Give me grace, Lord Jesus to partake of Your sovereign reign.

COMMENTARY:
Any belief opposing Jesus having same attribute with God is far from the truth. Some people till date find it difficult to discern the true deity of Jesus. Paul avails us that Jesus is the exact image of God in the flesh. He came from Heaven (1 Cor. 15:47). He has supreme power over all - both visible and invisible. He is first in everything

POINT OF EMPHASIS: Jesus is Supreme, first in everything. It pleases God to live in Christ

PRAYER POINT: Help me Holy Spirit not to join the league of those who undermine Jesus' deity.

TOPIC: FULLNESS OF GOD IN BODILY FORM

TEXT: COL. 1:9-11
⁹ For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
¹⁰ that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
¹¹ strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy;

COMMENTARY:
Paul acknowledged the divine deity of Jesus in his letter to the Colossians. He affirmed in Colossians 2:9 that the fullness of God is in the Christ Jesus. What man needs to be saved and please God has been deposited in Jesus. He is the image of the living God (Heb. 1:3). Jesus Christ was the power of God that brought all creatures into existence. He was the power sent from above to purify and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

POINT OF EMPHASIS: The fullness of God is in Jesus.

PRAYER POINT: Lord Jesus, continue to empower and sustain me by Your power.

TOPIC: NOT BY HUMAN MAJORITY VOTE

TEXT: LUKE 1:26-38
²⁶ Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth,
²⁷ to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary.
²⁸ And having come in, the angel said to her, "Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!"
²⁹ But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was.
³⁰ Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
³¹ And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus.
³² He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.

COMMENTARY:
The Angelic message to Mary cannot be waved aside. The content was divine, potent, and precise without any prejudice. He said that the child to be born by virgin Mary was going to be great, and be called the Son of God. Though Mary was espoused to Joseph, the latter did not have any biological contributions to the birth of Jesus. This shows Jesus' divine origin. It was not by people's popular demand. It was purely by God's will and love.

POINT OF EMPHASIS: Jesus' origin is from above.

PRAYER POINT: Lord Jesus, grant me grace to always seek and obtain God's approval.

COMMENTARY:
Jesus was Godman. He exhibited both human and divine nature. He was in the form of God but humbled Himself. He did not make Himself equal with God. For His obedience, He was given a name that is above all other names both in Heaven and on Earth. His exaltation is in recognition of the right and glory He had with God before the world came into existence.

POINT OF EMPHASIS: Jesus had right, glory and authority over all things before anything came into existence

PRAYER POINT: Help me Lord, to always submit to Your authority.

TOPIC: GREATER THAN ALL

TEXT: JN. 3:27-31
²⁷ John answered and said, "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven.
²⁸ You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, 'I am not the Christ,' but, 'I have been sent before Him.'
²⁹ He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled.
³⁰ He must increase, but I must decrease.
³¹ He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.

COMMENTARY:
Applying the comparative superlative that says 'greater than the greatest' is very appropriate. These qualifications are not merely ascribed by men but was given from above. In spite of stiff opposition, John courageously spoke the truth about Jesus.

The works of Jesus and the testimony given by John (verse 27) attest to the lofty heavenly heritage of Jesus (verse 27).

POINT OF EMPHASIS: No one receives anything unless it is given from Heaven.

PRAYER POINT: Help me Holy Spirit to fully influence people to follow Jesus like John did.
