*SUNDAY OCTOBER 4TH, 2026*

Beloved Let Us Pray: "I was glad when they said to me, 'Let us go into the house of the LORD.'" (Psalm 122:1)

King of Glory, Lord of Hosts, the Great I AM, we rise this Sunday morning with hearts bursting with praise! This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Thank You for bringing us safely through this week—from Monday September 28th to this Sunday October 4th, 2026. You have been faithful every step of the way. We thank You for Your grace, Your mercy, and Your unfailing love. Father, we confess our sins and ask for Your cleansing. Let the blood of Jesus wash away every stain.

Prayer Focus for Today: O LORD, as we gather in Your presence today—in Baptist churches across Nigeria, from the cities to the villages, from the mountains to the valleys—let Your glory fill the sanctuary. You said in Psalm 100:4, "Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name." Father, let our worship be acceptable in Your sight. Heal the sick among us. Save the lost. Restore the backslider. Comfort the brokenhearted. I pray for every pastor who will stand in the pulpit—anoint them with fresh oil. Let the Word preached today bring life, hope, and transformation. Let souls be won for Your kingdom. I dedicate this Sunday and this new month of October to Your glory. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

OCTOBER 4 SUNDAY, 2026

WE WILL SERVE THE LORD

Text: Joshua 24:14-27

But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:15, NIV

BH 434: Serve the Lord with Gladness

RBT: Matthew 7-9

Commitment is an agreement or pledge to do something. It is the act of promising to do something in a particular way.

The Israelites have forgotten the goodness of God to them both in Egypt and the wilderness: how God loved, cared and fought for them. Joshua challenged the people of Israel to fear the Lord and serve Him faithfully. He encouraged them to abandon the foreign gods their forefathers worshipped and be fully committed to the Lord. He charged them to choose whom they would serve between God and the gods of their forefathers. Joshua declared that he and his family would serve the Lord. The Israelites recalled how God delivered them from the Egyptians, performed great miracles, and protected them in their journey to the Promised Land. Then, they declared that they too would serve the Lord, because He is their God. Joshua made them realise how serious their decision was by telling them, "God is holy and jealous" and would not tolerate the worship of other gods, or else disasters would come upon them. But the people insisted that they would serve the Lord. Joshua established a covenant with them and set up a stone as a witness to their promises.

Serving God faithfully requires devotion, separation from idols of culture, wealth, and self; and a resolve to honour Him in all daily choices.

Beloved Let Us Pray: "Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert." (Isaiah 43:19)

Ancient of Days, the God of new beginnings, we worship You this Thursday morning! Today is the first day of October 2026—a brand new month, a fresh chapter, a clean slate. You are the God who makes all things new. We thank You for bringing us into this new season. Father, we repent of every sin that could hinder our blessings in this new month—every unforgiveness, every bitterness, every pride. Cleanse us, Lord, and set us on the path of righteousness.

Prayer Focus for Today: O LORD, I enter October 2026 with expectation and faith. You promised in Isaiah 43:19 that You will do a new thing. Father, let this new thing spring forth in my life today—new job, new business, new marriage, new health, new peace, new opportunities. Every yoke that has held me down in the past nine months—I break them now by the blood of Jesus. I declare that this month of October shall be my month of testimonies. No evil shall befall me. No plague shall come near my dwelling. I cover the next 31 days with the blood of Jesus. I pray for our nation Nigeria—let this month bring peace, progress, and divine intervention. In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

The decision to follow Jesus Christ must be wholehearted and unwavering.

In today's passage, several individuals expressed a desire to follow Christ, yet their hearts were distracted - some by comfort, others by family obligations or societal expectations. Jesus responded with a strong warning that discipleship is not for the half-hearted. It is like the ploughman who needed to focus on the terminal point to ensure precision of the work done without expecting any compensation or honour for his effort.

Anyone who desires to follow after Jesus must patiently focus on Him. Looking back can bring regret, lead to hesitation, or attachment to the world, which are attitudes unfit for kingdom service. Following Jesus requires letting go of distractions, enduring hardship, and rejecting the temptation to turn back. True discipleship demands sacrifice and a steady gaze on the eternal prize.

As children of God, we must understand that there will never be a perfect
