A HOLY DAY OF REJOICING

Text: Nehemiah 8:9-12

Nehemiah said, 'Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.' Nehemiah 8:10, NIV

BH 18: Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven

RBT: Job 5-8

Joy is one of the most precious gifts a believer can have. It is not dependent on circumstances but comes from the Lord. This joy gives strength to stay strong during life's storms and to walk with confidence even in difficult situations. God's joy is an invitation for people to experience profound joy turning moments of hardship into opportunities for celebration.

Today's passage is a powerful example of rejoicing in the Lord amidst restoration and revival. After Nehemiah's remarkable rebuilding of Jerusalem's walls, Ezra read the Law to the assembled people, stirring their hearts and minds. As they grasped the depth of their spiritual decay, conviction and sorrow swept over them, and they began to weep. However, Nehemiah, Ezra, and the Levites swiftly redirected their focus to see that "This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mourn or weep" (v. 9). The leaders reminded them that understanding God's Word brings joy and the "joy of the Lord is your strength." The people celebrated, sharing food and rejoicing together. This expresses a transformative connection between worship, communal celebration and spiritual strength.

This account inspires us to cultivate a spirit of joy and gratitude in worship. Therefore, as Christians, know that your gathering with fellow believers is a holy gathering of rejoicing. Be assured that the Word of God will revive and strengthen you, fill you with hope and resilience. Continue to celebrate His presence, provision and promises with gratitude. As you worship together, share your struggles with others, as this fosters meaningful fellowship and unity am

A HOLY DAY OF REJOICING

Memory Verse: "This day is holy to the LORD your God. Do not mourn or weep. For all the people have been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law." Nehemiah 8:9b, NIV

Text: Nehemiah 8:9-12

Nehemiah 8:9-12 NIV
[9] Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and teacher of the Law, and the Levites who were instructing the people said to them all, “This day is holy to the Lord your God. Do not mourn or weep.” For all the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law.

[10] Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

[11] The Levites calmed all the people, saying, “Be still, for this is a holy day. Do not grieve.”

[12] Then all the people went away to eat and drink, to send portions of food and to celebrate with great joy, because they now understood the words that had been made known to them.

Pope John Paul II wrote, "We who are Christians have a further cause for joy: like Jesus, we know that we are loved by God our Father.

This love transforms our lives and fills us with joy. It makes us see that Jesus did not come to lay burdens upon us.... Therefore, we discover joy when we discover truth - the truth about God our Father, the truth about Jesus our Savior, the truth about the Holy Spirit who lives in our hearts."

Nehemiah and Ezra read the Word of God to the people of Judah after they had finished rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem. The people were convicted of their sins, leading to sorrowful weeping and repentance. Nehemiah encouraged them not to grieve or be sorrowful because it was a holy day to the Lord. The Levites explained the Word to them further and told them to eat and rejoice.

True repentance should always produce the joy of salvation. This joy will rel

*Prayer Focus for Our Children:*

1. Heavenly Father, we praise You for the gift of our children and the wards You have put in our care. We thank You that You are fully in control of them. We thank You that You know every hair on their heads. You know exactly when they rise and when they sleep.

2. My Father, I pray You would protect our children. Keep them healthy and help them to thrive. Please watch over our children in all areas of their lives and keep them safe. Sovereign Shepherd, please guide our children in every step they take. Lead them in Your wisdom and truth, and help them to seek Your guidance in all things.

3. El Shaddai, El Beracca, let the favor of the LORD our God be upon our children and our generations. Establish the works of the hands of our children, and establish the work of our hands as parents and guardians.

4. Heavenly Father, please guide our children in every step they take. I pray they would always enjoy Your provision and protection. May they be positively encouraged by friends at school, college or university, and at work. May they demonstrate Your agape love and care to their friendship circles.

5 Our LORD Emmanuel, I pray that our children would follow after You and be builders of Your kingdom. I ask that You would protect and steady their steps. May they learn to hear and follow only Your voice.

6. Like Timothy in the Bible, may our children be an example to believers in speech, love, conduct, faith, and purity.

7. May the LORD our God be gracious to our families and be our strength for each day in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

MEMBERS OF THE BODY OF CHRIST

Text: Romans 12:1-8

So in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. Romans 12:5, NIV

BH 366: Blest Be the Tie

RBT: Job 1-4

Hippocrates said, "All parts of the body which have a function, if used in moderation and exercised in labours in which each is accustomed, become thereby healthy, well developed...but if unused they become liable to disease, defective in growth and age quickly."

In today's text, Paul urges believers to offer themselves as living sacrifices, transformed by the renewing of their minds. He reveals believers' true identity and purpose, and expresses how their diverse gifts and unity in Christ foster meaningful fellowship through worship. This exposes to them the richness of their membership in the body of Christ. Members of Christ's body are one, yet uniquely gifted. Paul lists various spiritual gifts: prophesying, serving, teaching, exhorting, contributing, leading, and showing mercy. This diversity of gifts is to strengthen the church, while humility and genuine love help to maintain harmony. United worship is the context where believers' gifts are exercised.

As children of God, we are not isolated individuals but interconnected members of Christ's body, woven together by God's design. Just as each part of the human body plays a vital role, we too, have unique roles in the church, contributing to its growth and vitality. As members of Christ's body, you are expected to celebrate our diversity and unity in worship. Identify your spiritual gifts and use them to edify others. Cultivate humility, recognising each member's value. In your local assembly, be resolved to practice genuine love and mutual respect by active participation. Through united worship, your fellowship with other believers can reflect Christ's beauty, drawing others to Him.

■ Wisdom: Christians are interconnected members of Christ's body, not isol

MEMBERS OF THE BODY OF CHRIST

Memory Verse: "For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others." Romans 12:4-5, NIV

Text: Romans 12:1-8

Romans 12:1-8 NIV
[1] Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

[2] Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing, and perfect will.

[3] For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.

[4] For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function,

[5] so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

[6] We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith;

[7] if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach;

[8] if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

Leslie Ludy once said, "As Christians, God designed us to need each other." The body of Christ is the universal name for all believers in Christ across denominations, ages, races, and human boundaries. It is a functioning body with each member empowered to work together in the wisdom and power of God.

In today's text, Apostle Paul compares the nature of the Body of Christ with the human body. He ex

LET US SING TO THE LORD

Memory Verse: "Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation." Psalm 95:1, NIV

Text: Psalm 95

Psalms 95:1-11 NIV
[1] Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.

[2] Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.

[3] For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods.

[4] In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him.

[5] The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.

[6] Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;

[7] for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. Today, if only you would hear his voice,

[8] “Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah, as you did that day at Massah in the wilderness,

[9] where your ancestors tested me; they tried me, though they had seen what I did.

[10] For forty years I was angry with that generation; I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray, and they have not known my ways.’

[11] So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’ ”

In the midst of a bustling street with traffic noise, a man heard a sweet voice singing melodiously. He could not ignore the sound. On finding the singer, he was surprised to discover he had no legs. The man told the singer, "Hearing your sweet voice even in this condition has reminded me that I have much to be grateful for." The man replied, "When I stopped thinking about what I had lost and began concentrating on all I had left, I found much reason to rejoice."

The psalmist enjoins us to sing to the Lord. He highlights how and why we should sing to the Lord. We are to sing joyfully with thanksgiving, music, shouting, and adoration. We are to sing to the Lord because of His greatness, creativ

LET US SING TO THE LORD

Text: Psalm 95

Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Psalm 95:1, NIV

BH 20: O Worship the King

RBT: Esther 1-5

D. A. Carson said, "Worship is the proper response of all moral, sentient beings to God, ascribing all honour and worth to their Creator- God precisely because he is worthy, delightfully so." Worship is not just a ritual, but it is a reflection of our relationship with God.

King David in today's text highlighted the importance of genuine worship. The psalmist invites us to join in a joyful expression of praise. This call is divided into two parts; the first is a call to sing, shout, and bow before the Lord, acknowledging His majesty, creation, and redemption. The second part serves as a warning, cautioning against the hardening of hearts and rebellion, referencing Israel's wilderness experience.

Worship sets us apart from the context of our immediate environment; it places us in another realm in alignment with God if properly done. Therefore, you should engage wholeheartedly in worship, expressing gratitude and adoration. By joining others in united worship, you strengthen fellowship and unity, declaring God's worthiness to the world. Apply this truth by cultivating a lifestyle of genuine worship, honouring God in every aspect of your life, and fostering meaningful relationships with fellow believers through shared worship experiences.

■ Wisdom: God delights in the worship of His children.

■ Food for Thought: Are you a genuine worshiper of God?

■ Follow-up Action: Worship God with some new songs today.
