RETREAT (Sunset)

One of our oldest and most solemn traditions in the Boys' Brigade Organization and by extension the Military is to honor our flag. When we think of our flag for example, all of us come together as patriotic members and reflect on those values we hold dear: life, liberty and the sense of belonging.

Retreat otherwise known as Sunset (salute) is played every day to signal end of the duty day. This is our opportunity to reflect and show gratitude. Throughout the Boys' Brigade, The end of the duty day is announced with “Sunset Music” at 06:00PM (1800hrs).

During these times, all members are required to afford the appropriate courtesies. So what is the appropriate courtesy? Members in uniform and outside must face the flag (or the music if the flag is not visible) and salute during the raising and lowering of the flag. Specifically, on the first note of the 'Sunset Salute’, members in uniform must render the hand salute. Members must hold their salute until the last note of the Bugle Blow sounds.

Regarding courtesies while in civilian attire (M***i) and while outdoors, face the flag (or the sound of the music) and stand at attention Position. Drivers in vehicles during “Sunset/Retreat,” should pull the car to the side of the road and stop.

Courtesies to our flag are not only an avenue to honor our flag, but are also a sign of our professionalism.

The next time you hear “Sunset Blow/Retreat,” go ahead – do the right thing. Show you’re a professional – a proud heir of the rich Boys' Brigade heritage and Culture.

Uniform in The BOYS' BRIGADE.

Uniform is one of the most important methods used in the
Boys' Brigade.
Uniform is a set of standard clothing worn by members of a
particular organization, which they can be identified with.
The Boys' Brigade wears uniform which varies from section to
section; thus is registered globally as a “Uniformed
Organization”.

The Boys' Brigade Uniform is generally classified into two
groups:
1. Sectional uniforms: We have three sectional uniforms in the
Boys Brigade Nigeria which is worn by the Boys in each of
these sections (Junior/Anchor section, Company section and
Senior section).
2. Officers uniform: This uniform is worn by Officers in the
Boys Brigade Nigeria. We have two officers uniform, the
Officers uniform A and the Officers uniform B.
The uniform A is the Navy blue suite worn as Officers
ceremonial uniform for all Chaplains, Patrons, Lieutenants and
Captains while the Officers uniform B is the field officers
uniform (Navy blue trousers and white shirt) worn by all
warrants, lieutanats and captain's.

Each of these uniform types is made up of uniform
accessories and uniform clothing.
The Uniform accessories includes materials worn to beautify,
decorate and show ranks by the member. It includes the:
Lanyard, Haversacks, Badges, Belts, Berets, Chevron, Tie,
Boots / Shoes, Socks, Caps, staff, etc.
The uniform clothing is usually neatly sown by a tailor and
worn by the members according to their sections.

REASONS WHY WE WEAR UNIFORM IN THE BOYS' BRIGADE
1 To show membership in the Boys' Brigade.
2 To show the section at which the member belongs to.
3 To show the persons rank and position (this can be viewed
through his lanyard, chevron, badge, beret etc).
4 To create uniformity in outfit.
5 It serves as a reminder of our calling.
6 It beautifies the member and makes him attractive.
7 It promotes self respect and self control.
8 It’s a symbol of authority and command.
9 It helps to institute discipline amongst members.

Evang. Mandung P. Dung, ANTO (of Blessed Memory) was a selfless man who completely lived for others. Those who know him will testify.

To honour this great Legend, the family thought it wise to do a Thanksgiving Remembrance Service to the glory of God's holy name.

While in this programme, a part of his programme will also be done... The programme will raise funds to support the Widows, the Orphans, the Poor and other less privileged including his aged mother in the village.

It is NOT compulsory to give if you don't have. Just come let's thank God together and be further strengthened to live for Christ.

God bless you as you honour this invitation in Jesus name, Amen!!!
