*TEXT: JOHN 1:14-16*

14. _The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth._
15. _(John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, "This is the one I spoke about when I said, ’He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’")_
16. _Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given._

*TOPIC: FULL OF GRACE*

Today's text stresses the role of Jesus when he took on human nature. He became man and dwelled among his people, "Immanuel, God with us." He revealed God's glory and power to mankind. He embodies the fullness of God's grace, favour and truth - to reconcile all things to God and bring us peace (cf. Col. 1:19-20). This overflow of abundant grace and truth draws us to his salvation and blessings. Many at times people get entangled in the affairs of the world to make a living but end up in piercing grieves and damnation. However, the way out of the despair of life is to turn to the One who is full of grace to pull you out of such situations. Therefore, submit to Jesus and benefit from his abundant grace.

*REFLECTION:* _The grace of God is always available._

*PRAYER:* _Thank you Father, for the overflow of grace through Christ. Amen._

41. _Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover._
42. _When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom._
43. _After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it._
44. _Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends._
45. _When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him._
46. _After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions._
47. _Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers._

*TOPIC: HE HAS GREAT KNOWLEDGE*

In today's text, Jesus had to be in the temple with his parents according to the custom. After religious feast, Jesus stayed behind for a purpose unknown to the parents (v. 49). Jesus had not attended the usual stages of learning and memorising the scriptures as obtained for Jewish children. Yet, his questioning aptitude mesmerised the teachers. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding. Indeed, Jesus had great knowledge! To gain wisdom and understanding, you need to be connected to Jesus. Therefore, accept Him as your Lord and Saviour and access knowledge (Cor. 1:9). You also need to sit and learn from others in order to grow spiritually.

*REFLECTION:* _Jesus imparts knowledge._

*PRAYER:* _Lord Jesus, impart me with knowledge. Amen._

*TEXT: LUKE 8:26-36*

26. _They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes, which is across the lake from Galilee._
27. _When Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house, but had lived in the tombs._
28. _When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don’t torture me!"_
29. _For Jesus had commanded the impure spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places._
30. _Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" "Legion," he replied, because many demons had gone into him._
31. _And they begged Jesus repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss._
32. _A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. The demons begged Jesus to let them go into the pigs, and he gave them permission._
33. _When the demons came out of the man, they went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was drowned._
34. _When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported this in the town and countryside,_
35. _and the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus’ feet, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid._
36. _Those who had seen it told the people how the demon-possessed man had been cured._

*TOPIC: THE GOSPEL TRANSFORMS*

In the course of proclaiming the gospel, Jesus came across a demon-possessed man who lived in tombs and was often driven into solitary places. The demons recognised Jesus' authority and power over them that they were gripped with fear of being sent to Abyss. So they pleaded with Jesus not to torture them. With authority, Jesus delivered him and the man was transformed. He sat calmly at Jesus' feet, clothed and in his right mind. Are you under satanic influence or weighted down with many problems? The power of Jesus to deliver, heal and restore the afflicted is accessible. Believers must also rely on the power of Jesus as they attend to those in need in the church and society.

*REFLECTION:* _Those who encounter Jesus never remain the same._

*PRAYER:* _Lord, thank you for your transformational power. Amen._

*TEXT: JOHN 8:1-11*

1. _but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives._
2. _At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them._
3. _The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group_
4. _and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery._
5. _In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?”_
6. _They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger._
7. _When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”_
8. _Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground._
9. _At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there._
10. _Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”_
11. _“No one, sir,” she said.“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”_

*TOPIC: HE FORGIVES II*

Today's passage narrates how some religious leaders brought an adulterous woman to Jesus to judge her according to the Law of Moses. Instead, Jesus told them that the one without sin should be the first to throw a stone at her. The accusers' failure to stone her suggests that there was a miscarriage of justice. Besides, the Pharisees were guilty of one sin or the other. Jesus, who is without sin, did not condemn her either, but forgave and urged her to go and sin no more. Sure, Jesus is merciful and desires sinners to repent. It is common amongst Christians to point fingers at others' weaknesses while ignoring theirs (Mt. 7:3). Is this your practice? Repent!

*REFLECTION:* _No sin is too big to be forgiven._

*PRAYER:* _Father, help me to forgive as you do. Amen._

*TEXT: MARK 5:35-43*

35. _While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. "Your daughter is dead," they said. "Why bother the teacher anymore?"_
36. _Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, "Don’t be afraid; just believe."_
37. _He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James._
38. _When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly._
39. _He went in and said to them, "Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep."_
40. _But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was._
41. _He took her by the hand and said to her, (which means "Little girl, I say to you, get up!" )._
42. _Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished._
43. _He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat._

*TOPIC: HE RAISES THE DEAD I*

Jesus is accessible to all people. Jairus, a synagogue leader, approached him seeking help for his critically ill daughter. Unfortunately, she died while Jesus was still on his way to the house. Despite this discouraging report, Jesus encouraged Jairus to have faith. For the mourners, the girl is dead, an irreversible condition, but for Jesus she was only asleep. He simply called her, and she was restored to life. Indeed, nothing is too difficult or impossible for Jesus - he raises the dead. Verily, he has power over life and death. Some people are facing situations that are tantamount to death. Whatever the situation, Jesus has absolute power to bring it to live. So, "Don't be afraid, just believe" (v. 36).

*REFLECTION:* _Jesus has power over death._

*PRAYER:* _Lord Jesus, bring to life every dead situation in life. Amen._

*TEXT: MATTHEW 14:12-21*

12. _John’s disciples came and took his body and buried it. Then they went and told Jesus._
13. _When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns._
14. _When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick._
15. _As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food."_
16. _Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat."_
17. _"We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish," they answered._
18. _"Bring them here to me," he said._
19. _And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people._
20. _They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over._
21. _The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children._

*TOPIC: HE FEEDS THE HUNGRY*

Jesus might have withdrawn for a solidarity place for John the Baptist when he was executed, yet the people followed him. Despite his desire for solitude, he responded with: (i) empathy and healed the sick among the crowd, (ii) urged the disciples to trust God's ability to provide even in seemingly impossible situations, (iii) took the limited resources, prayed and miraculously multiplied it to feed the multitude. Most families can rarely afford daily meals or meet their basic needs because of the ever increasing economic hardship. Do not despair or resort to ungodly ways to make ends meet. But look up to Jesus, the provider. He will meet you at the point of your need.

*REFLECTION:* _Jesus understands your plight._

*PRAYER:* _Father, help me to trust you in the face of lack. Amen._

*TEXT: MARK 1:29-34*

29. _As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew._
30. _Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her._
31. _So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them._
32. _That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed._
33. _The whole town gathered at the door,_
34. _and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was._

*TOPIC: HE HEALS I*

Jesus' ministry encompasses all aspects of human needs. In this text, Jesus went to Simon Peter's house and found his mother-in-law sick. The moment Jesus lifted her hand, she was healed instantly. When the neighbourhood learned about Jesus' compassion and authority over sickness, they brought their loved ones who were demon-possessed and troubled by diseases for healing and deliverance. Jesus' authority to heal includes physical and spiritual afflictions. What physical or spiritual challenge are you passing through? Do not seek a solution from witch doctors, _babalawos_ or marabou. Rather, go to Jesus, the great healer! Jesus is willing to bring restoration to those who are suffering. Christians should not hesitate to pray for the sick.

*REFLECTION:* _Jesus, the greatest physician._

*PRAYER:* _Lord Jesus, heal me from all diseases. Amen._

*TEXT: LUKE 4:14-22*

14. _Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside._
15. _He was teaching in their synagogues, and everyone praised him._
16. _He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read,_
17. _and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:_
18. _“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,_
19. _to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.”_
20. _Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him._
21. _He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”_
22. _All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked._

*TOPIC: GREAT TEACHER II*

Jesus, filled with the Holy Spirit, entered the synagogue to announce publicly his ministry. He taught with authority such that his words were received with admiration and glory. He assured the audience that he is the fulfilment of the prophetic words about the Messiah. He revealed his mission and purpose - to bring good news, liberty, and healing. His teaching made a great and positive impact on those who heard him. The people marvelled at his gracious words. It is sad that some engage in the ministry of the gospel without genuine repentance and empowerment by the Holy Spirit. Others seek power outside of Jesus. They may influence their audience, but without positive and spiritual impact. Who is the source of your power? Evaluate!

*REFLECTION:* _Jesus meets our needs._

*PRAYER:* _Lord Jesus, help me to be teachable. Amen._
