Sultan says insecurity politicised, MSSN asks politicians to fulfill promises as Bauchi State Gov declares 80th IVC closed

By Yusufu Musa

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alh Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar III, has said that insecurity is politicised.

He said this while raising queries in the face of the bandits' attacks that cost lives of citizens during the closing ceremony of the 80th national Islamic Vacation Course at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium Bauchi on Wednesday.

According to Sultan, the challenges Nigerians are facing have nothing to do with religion or ethnicity but a problem of governance.

'Muslims, Christians and even those who have no religion go the same market. It is not the issue of religion. It is about leadership,' he said.

He added that responding to these attacks must be beyond condemnation, and tasked those in government to wake up to their responsibilities.

'Why do we keep on having these clashes? Why do we keep on having these deaths caused by ourselves? But after condemning such activities by criminals, what is next? What are the roles of the government who are supposed to protect our lives and property?' The Sultan said.

He reminded those in authority that God will ask them to account for what they did on Earth.

The supreme leader of Muslims in Nigeria lamented the failure of the government to obtain intelligence reports ahead of criminal activities to forestall them.

'Why can't we be proactive to stop such attacks before they happen? What happens to our intelligence mechanisms? Have we lost our sense of information gathering? These bandits are always steps ahead,' he said.

His Eminence urged the Muslim Ummah to keep their hope alive and pray for things to change for better in the country.

'Let's keep having confidence in the leadership in the next couple of months that things will change. The moment you lose hope you are finished.'

The Emir asked followers to correct leaders anytime they go wrong.

'Tell us when you think we do wrongly. Tell us the truth. Don't leave us with our little wisdom. Don't be afraid to talk to us.'

The chairman of the occasion, Alh Mahmoud Yayale Ahmed, advocated for establishment of a university by the society.

Likewise, in delivering a keynote address on the theme of this year's IVC: 'The Position of Muslims in National Politics: Where we are and where we ought to be', Sheikh Tajuddeen Muhammad Bello Adigun criticised the process that produces leaders in Nigeria.

Sheikh Tajuddeen maintained that the electoral process is defective and monetised and as a result its products are hardly there to serve citizens but for material gains. He added the Northern part of the country was better off when the Shura system was used to shop for those who would govern the society.

The scholar acknowledged problems of governance in the country. He stressed that it would difficult for security to be achieved in the midst of hunger and absence of justice as well as opportunity for young people.

Dr Tajuddeen said hiking of school fees in the country's universities will constitute a security threat, saying that the youth are the hope for the future and they must not given opportunity to grow.

He reflected on the leadership of Umar bn Khattab who would stay hungry until food reached his subjects.

On their part, he preached obedience to leaders by followers as a duty upon them in Islam and advised them to maximise opportunities to make money for self-reliance.

The A-Zone Ameer of the MSSN, Mal Muhammad Bin Isa, called on more government's efforts in securing lives of Nigerians and giving them access to education.

He commended troops for succeesss recorded in fighting banditry in the North West and North Central and appealed for more concerted efforts to stop killing innocent people and displacement of homes.

In addition, he said the society would not sit back while universities are raising fees, an action that pushes its members out of school.

Mal Muhammad disclosed the effort of the society in training its members on technological advances especially the artificial intelligence.

On his part, the national Amir called for justice for victims of the Tudun Biri bombardment by bringing the perpetrators to book and compensating the bereaved families.

He tasked politicians to fulfill the promises they made during campaigns and check hardship in the country .

According to him, increasing school fees in these hard times would make region to be continually lagging behind and compound the security challenges.

On the subsidy removal, he called on government to roll out realistic schemes to mitigate the effect of the policy on struggling Nigerian men and women. He said many Nigerians are struggling to get even a single meal.

He also called for an immediate end to the massacre of Palestinians by Israeli authorities and vacation of sanctions imposed on Niger Republic by ECOWAS.

The governor of Bauchi State, who is the host governor of the annual 6-day programme, applauded MSSN for intervening to make the society better amidst vices of diverse forms in the country.

Before declaring the course closed, he had said that Nigeria is battling with incessant cases of sexual assault and kidnapping perpetrated by young people due to the influence of drugs.

He described the intervention of the MSSN in organising such enlightening programmes to save youth. He further implored other organisations to imitate the MSSN.

According to the governor, who was represented by his deputy, Hon. Mohammed Awwal Jatau, young people matter greatly to their administratiion and they have been engaging them in governance.

Prominent guests were the wife of the deputy governor of Bauchi State Hajiya Asma'u Muhammad Jatau, who represented the first lady of Bauchi State, the honourable minister of education represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Abubukar Tafawa Balewa University, Prof Sani Kunya, the chairman of Bauchi State Council of Chiefs and Emir of Bauchi Alh. Rilwan Suleiman Adamu, the Emir of Ningi, Dr Yunusa Muhammad, the Emir of Misau, Alh Ahmad Sulaiman, the Emir of Dass, Ciroman Bauchi and the MD Kaduna State Environmental Protection Agency.

Other dignitaries include the Chief of Staff and Personal Private Secretary to the governor of Bauchi State, Bauchi State Commissioner of Religious Affairs and Societal Reorientation and other members of Bauchi State Executive Council, Counsellor to the governor of Kaduna State (Political), the Executive Chairman of Sokoto State Zakat and Waqf Commissionion, the Vice Chancellor of Al-Istiqama University Sumaila and past and present MSSN officers at various levels.
