*THE SPIRIT LIFE*

Bible Text: Romans 8:5-9

Bible in one year: Nehemiah 9-11, 1 Corinthians 7

Every regenerated believer has the Spirit of Christ. All things that God created have their natural habitat. As soon as you are born again, you are no longer of this world, even though you live in it. The Bible says in John 17:16: “They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.” It is therefore clear that our habitat as bornagain Christians is the spirit realm. It behoves us to continually allow the Spirit of God to take preeminence over our lives.

The spirit life for a believer implies walking, living, and being controlled by the Spirit. The spirit life is complete, and it affects every aspect of human existence. How do you activate the spirit life as a believer?

- Be filled with the Holy Spirit.

Being filled with the Holy Spirit is not a oneoff event but rather the culture and tradition of the believer. You cannot talk about the spirit life without having the Holy Spirit. The indwelling of the Spirit of God is the basis and catalyst of the spirit life.

* Avoid carnality.

Carnality must not find a place in our lives. The world system will attempt to push or instigate carnality and worldliness, which must be resisted vehemently by a believer in Christ. This is crucial because carnality will sap and extinguish any form of spirituality.

- Pray continuously in the Spirit.

Continuous praying in the Spirit activates the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer. God is Spirit, and when you pray in the Spirit, you communicate with Him unhindered. God will certainly unveil Himself to you. Moreover, you are tangibly built up by praying in the Spirit. In Jude 20 (AMP), the Bible says: “But you, beloved, build yourselves up, founded on your most holy faith, make progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher, praying in the Holy Ghost.”

In conclusion, there is a contrast between life in the Spirit and life in the flesh. To enjoy the spirit life, you must never yield your members to sin. The grace is sufficient. Bravo!

*Declaration and Action:*

- I live the spirit life. I am not carnal or worldly.

- O Lord my God, I ask for the continuous infilling of the Holy Spirit in Jesus’ name.

*Take Away: Life in the Spirit is made possible by being filled with the Holy Spirit, resisting carnality, praying consistently in the Spirit and meditating on the word of God.*

*Memory Verses:*

Galatians 5:16 “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”

Galatians 5:25 “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

*THE GLORY OF THE LATTER HOUSE*

Bible Text: 2 Corinthians 3:7-11

Bible in one year: Nehemiah 6-8, 1 Corinthians 6

Glory to God for making us partakers of the latter house. Glory speaks of God’s beauty, splendour, brightness, majesty, magnificence, and His manifest presence. It is important to review the glory of previous times.

Moses was an embodiment of God’s glory. He was privileged to see, witness, and experience God’s glory. From the call of Moses at the burning bush to the time he was taken away by God, Moses swam in God’s glory. There is no way he could have taken the children of Israel out of Egypt and journeyed through the wilderness without God’s glory. Indeed, Moses asked for God’s glory, and it was given to him. “Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.” – Exodus 40:34–35.

The beauty of our times is the fact that the glory experienced by Moses was a shadow of the real thing. Jesus is therefore the embodiment, revealer, and presenter of the latter glory. The glory of God in the time of Moses was for the selected few, but in our dispensation, we all have access to God’s glory. “So if the old way which has been replaced was glorious, how much more glorious is the new, which remains forever.” – 2 Corinthians 3:11 (NLT).

God’s glory is attracted through the following means:

- The new birth opens the door to God’s glory.

- Desiring God’s glory is essential to being a partaker.

- Progressive righteousness gives unhindered access. Hebrews 1:9: “Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.”

- Ask by faith for God’s glory. Desire will propel you to ask.

- Holy Ghost baptism and remaining filled with the Holy Spirit.

- Unhindered worship gives access to God’s glory.

- Fellowship with the brethren provides access to corporate grace and glory.

*Declaration and Action:*

- O Lord my God, show me Your glory.

- I receive grace to abide in God’s glory.

*Take Away: We are partakers of the latter glory through Christ, who reveals and presents God’s splendour to all. Access to this glory is gained by faith, righteousness, worship, and fellowship in the Spirit.*

*Memory Verse:*

Haggai 2:9 “The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.”

*THE GLORY OF GOD*

Bible Text: 1 Chronicles 16:24-29

Bible in one year: Nehemiah 3-5, 1 Corinthians 5

How often do you ascribe glory to God? The glory of God is the majesty of His presence, the splendour and magnificence of God. The glory of God is infinite, and man is privileged to enjoy it. In this context, to partake in God’s glory is to be a carrier of His majesty and blessing. Humans are not to ascribe glory to themselves or take God’s glory. God does not share His glory with any man; however, believers are called to be partakers of His glory—to be carriers of it.

God placed Adam in the Garden of Eden because He wanted man to partake of His glory and splendour. Eden was the place of God’s presence and fellowship with humanity. In the process of time, man lost that glory in the Garden of Eden, and the struggle of man began when he lost it. Moses clearly understood the importance of God’s glory. He declared in Exodus 33:18: “And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.” Moses knew that he could not do much without the manifest presence of God.

We are enlisted in the new covenant to swim in His glory. The Holy Spirit has been given to all believers in Christ. One of the ways we access the glory of God is through praise and worship. 2 Chronicles 5:13 records: “The trumpeters and singers performed together in unison to praise and give thanks to the Lord. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, they raised their voices and praised the Lord with these words: He is good; His faithful love endures forever. At that moment a thick cloud filled the temple of the Lord.” God will always inhabit the praise of His people. As we praise and worship Him, His presence is made manifest, and we become partakers of His glory. We must therefore cultivate the attitude of worship and engage in unhindered worship to God.

*Declaration and Action:*

- Glory to God in the highest heavens. I am resolute to keep worshipping God in spirit and in truth.

- I am a partaker of the glory of God.

*Take Away: Believers experience God’s glory when they worship Him in spirit and truth. Through praise and fellowship, His presence is manifested, and His splendour is shared with His people.*

*Memory Verse:*

1 Chronicles 16:24 (NLT) “Publish his glorious deeds among the nations. Tell everyone about the amazing things he does.”

*NEVER MORTGAGE YOUR BIRTH RIGHT*

Bible Text: Genesis 25:29-34

Bible in one year: Ezra 10, Nehemiah 1-2, 1 Corinthians 4

As spiritual beings, we must maintain a culture of utmost discipline. “That no one may become guilty of sexual vice or become a profane (godless and sacrilegious) person as Esau did, who sold his own birthright for a single meal.” – Hebrews 12:16. In Christ Jesus, we have been saved and delivered from the power of darkness. We are born into Christ through our new birth experience. However, we should be careful not to mortgage our birthright through the deceitfulness of sin and compromise. As much as God is ever loving and willing to receive us as His children, we should not give room for careless living. It is important to know the ministry of Satan, as outlined in John 10:10: “…to steal and kill and destroy.”

In this devotional, it is worthwhile to evaluate what to do to avoid dispensing with one’s birthright:

- Conquer the lust of the eyes, flesh, and the pride of life.

Esau was enticed with the food presented by Jacob. The word of God is very clear in James 1:14–15 (AMP): “Then the evil desire, when it has conceived, gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is fully matured, brings forth death.” Therefore, occupy and fill your heart with the word of God. God’s word gives life, and when life is birthed in your spirit, there will be no room for carnality.

- Ensure you are disciplined.

Always set boundaries for yourself. There are “nogo” areas for a believer. Avoid taking hot coals into your bosom. Not all things are lawful or expedient for a believer. You must necessarily avoid places where passion and lust are conceived and celebrated.

* Be committed to God.

Pray consistently and allow the Spirit of God to take charge of your life. “But I say, walk and live (habitually) in the Holy Spirit (responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit), then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God).” – Galatians 5:16 (AMP).

*Declaration and Action:*

- I will not mortgage or sacrifice my godliness for carnality.

- I am resolute to continually live in the Spirit.

*Take Away: We must guard our birthright by conquering lust, setting boundaries, and living under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Victory over sin is achieved through discipline, prayer, and a life rooted in God’s word.*

*Memory Verse:*

Galatians 5:16 KJV “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

*WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO GIVE PEOPLE?*

Bible Text: Luke 4:16-21

Bible in one year: Ezra 7-9, 1 Corinthians 3

Is there anything in your possession that can bless people? Everyone is graciously endowed by God for the maximum benefit of others. It is worth noting that before you have followership, there must be something unique about you that can meet the needs of others. Jesus Christ, while on earth doing ministry, had followers because He met their needs. The Bible says in John 6:1–2 (NLT): “After this, Jesus crossed over to the far side of the Sea of Galilee, also known as the Sea of Tiberias. A huge crowd kept following Him wherever He went, because they saw His miraculous signs as He healed the sick.”

Everyone created by God has a platform for attraction. The challenge is that of discovering and deploying our Godgiven grace and divine abilities. It is evidently clear that God deposits grace in the lives of men, but it is your responsibility to discover such divine endowments. Jesus discovered His, as noted in Luke 4:17: “And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written.” Jesus discovered what was written about Him. Beloved, what is written about you? Seek the face of God genuinely, make enquiries, and you will discover your assignment on earth.

Deployment implies implementation or putting into use what you have discovered as your gift. Deployment is the effective mobilisation of your discoveries into action. Beloved, start that academic programme to enhance your knowledge, start that new business, embark on evangelism as an evangelist. Start teaching if you are called to teach. Begin to give to the needy and the less privileged if you are called into the helps ministry. Waste no more time—get started!

Finally, know that you have something to offer to others that will bless them. No person is useless or unproductive.

“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” – Theodore Roosevelt.

*Declaration and Action:*

- I have something unique to give others. I receive grace for full discovery.

- I deploy all that God has placed within me for the maximum edification of others.

*Take Away: God has endowed every person with unique gifts that can bless others. Believers are to discover and deploy these gifts to fulfil their divine assignment and bring edification to the world.*

*Memory Verse:*

John 18:37 “Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.”

*ONLY THE BEST IS GOOD ENOUGH*

Bible Text: Genesis 22:1-3, 9-14

Bible in one year: Ezra 4-6, 1 Corinthians 2

Beloved, the best must be offered to God at all times. Christ in you is the best gift God gave to man. We were privileged to be partakers of God’s very best, as God offered His only begotten Son as a sacrificial lamb for man’s redemption. We also see the example of men like Abraham, who laid down his best. Isaac, the child of promise, was the best Abraham had, and he willingly agreed to offer him as a sacrifice. The beauty of God is that what He gives you in return whenever you offer a sacrificial offering. At all times, your best is still a seed. The harvest is always greater than the seed.

Before you can give God the best, the following are fundamental:

- Death to self and mortification of the flesh are essential in sacrificial giving.

Any person who is full of himself and guided by carnal senses can never give God the best. Many who go to church still struggle to pay tithe, give offerings, or sow prophetic seed or seed faith. Several believers are not conscious of kingdom projects because self is still very active. Human rationality devoid of the Holy Spirit will always produce a carnal outcome.

- Do not observe the wind.

To give the best to God and to kingdom projects, do not be distracted by obligations and financial commitments. When this happens, people often defer their necessary obligation to God. We often forget that every form of giving is an investment. Kingdom investment can never result in loss but rather produces a bountiful harvest. Scripture tells us in Ecclesiastes 11:4: “He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.” Giving the best requires faith. We live and give by faith. As a matter of fact, “…The just shall live by faith.” – Romans 1:17.

* Give by faith.

In essence, the word of God says in Romans 14:23: “…for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.” In conclusion, give the best of whatever you have in your possession to God by faith, and you will unavoidably reap plentifully.

*Declaration and Action:*

- I am resolute to always give God the best.

- I will not defer or avoid giving my financial obligations such as tithe, offering, first fruit, seed faith, etc.

*Take Away: Believers must give God their best by faith, refusing to be hindered by self or external circumstances. When the best is offered, God responds with greater harvests and abundant blessings.*

*Memory Verses:*

Ecclesiastes 9:10 “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.”

Ecclesiastes 11:4 “He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.”
