30 DAYS IGNATIAN RETREAT OFFICIALLY BEGINS!

With the celebration of the Holy Mass this morning, officiated by the Rector, Very Revd. Fr. Alexander Sheyin Akaat, the annual IGNATIAN RETREAT officially begins. During the mass, the Rector welcomed the Spiritual Directors: Revd. Frs. Philip Mugu (of Kafanchan diocese), Nnaji James John (of Kaduna Archdiocese/Good Shepherd Major Seminary, Kaduna), Markus Dan'asebe and Noah Ya'u (both of Kano Diocese); and handed over the Seminarians to their care.

At the zenith of the spiritual year programme is the 30-days Ignatian retreat. This pivotal season is marked by moments of prayer, silence, self-discovery and most importantly, a deeper and personal encounter with God. This exercise is deeply rooted in the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. It is structured to help the seminarians wax in profound relationship with God, know His will, discern their vocation, and seeking the graces to align their lives and vocation with the Divine will.

Prayer:
We pray you Lord, grant our seminarians the grace to know themselves, encounter You, discern their vocation properly, know Your will for them, and Solidify their relationship with You. And to the Facilitators, grant them the patience to journey with the retreatants and renew in them each day, the grace of ordination. Amen.

THE FOCUS SHOULD BE ON JESUS!

As our seminarians approach one of the most defining exercises that characterize the successful completion of a spiritual year programme, we were thrilled to have during the mass today, one of the spiritual directors that would journey with them, Very Revd. Fr. Philip Mugu, the Administrator of St. Peter Clever's Catholic Cathedral, Kafanchan diocese, who principally officiated over the mass. In his homily, Fr Mugu reoriented the seminarians on the need to fix their gaze only on Jesus as One who gives sincere and lasting satisfaction, not merely materially, but most importantly, in their journey as Christians and ministers in the making.

He further stated that, "One shouldn't wait for ordination to be satisfied, for ordination does not bring satisfaction. Rather, a deeper relationship with God through one's daily service to God and humanity does (bring satisfaction)." "Seek satisfaction beyond the natural and physical," he further admonished, "for none of the physical possessions of priests, namely, flashy cars, and the rest, gives satisfaction."

He concluded by praying for us that, "God that calls us and knows our weaknesses may answer us when we cry to Him. Amen."

Hello viewers!
Our students today, shall begin their intellectual exercise (examination) remember them in your prayer as we unanimously ask for the intercession of St. Joseph Cupertino, the Patron Saint of Examination.

Prayer to St. Joseph of Cupertino for Exam Success
O Great St. Joseph of Cupertino, who while on earth did obtain from God the grace to be asked at your examination only the questions you knew, obtain for me a like favor in the examinations for which I am now preparing.
In return, I promise to make you known and cause you to be invoked. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

"Jesus is still visibly present in the Church, and continues to reveal Himself through the breaking of the word (liturgy of the Word) and breaking of the bread (liturgy of the Eucharist); especially to those who faithfully and consciously pay attention during the mass."
~ Fr. Alexander Sheyin Akaat.

A song well composed and presented by Bro. Julius Joshua (of the Catholic diocese of Minna) alongside his crew (fellow seminarians/classmates) during the Easter get-together with the Formators.

"We are Easter people and alleluia is our song; and this song is not only sung but lived, even when it is difficult."
~ St. Augustine.
Savour the sweetness of this song presentation by one of our students, Bro. Justice Sunday of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, the first Choir Master for the 2025/2026 formative year.
