CHRISTIAN HOMES AND MARRIAGES

INTRODUCTION

The home is God's first institution. Before God established the church as we know it, He established the family. Marriage, therefore, is not merely a social arrangement; it is God's divine institution.

Genesis 2:18 says, “It is not good that the man should be alone.” God Himself recognized the need for companionship and established marriage. Genesis 2:24 further declares that a man shall leave his father and mother, be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.

A Christian home should be more than a place where people live together. It should be a place where Christ is honored, love is practiced, children are taught God's Word, forgiveness is demonstrated, and prayer is a daily lifestyle.

The strength of the church is greatly influenced by the strength of Christian families.

1. MARRIAGE IS GOD'S IDEA

Genesis 2:18, 21–24

Marriage was not invented by society. It was established by God.

God saw that Adam needed a suitable companion, and He provided Eve. The Bible says:

«“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
— Genesis 2:24»

This means marriage involves:

- Leaving — establishing a new family unit.
- Cleaving — remaining committed to one another.
- Becoming one — developing unity in purpose, spirit, and life.

Christian marriage should therefore not be treated casually. It is a covenant that requires commitment, faithfulness, patience, and sacrifice.

2. CHRIST MUST BE AT THE CENTER OF THE HOME

Joshua 24:15; Psalm 127:1; Matthew 7:24–25

Joshua declared:

«“As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
— Joshua 24:15»

A Christian home should have a clear spiritual identity.

It is not enough to have Christian names, attend church, or wear religious clothing. Christ must be the foundation of the family.
