*The Rising Cost of Boys' Brigade Uniform Accessories: A Growing Concern*
By
*Emmanuel Esthon KUNDI* , _ANTO_
The Boys' Brigade, as a voluntary youth organization, has been a cornerstone of character building and community service in Nigeria for many years. With its focus on Christian upbringing, servant leadership, quasi military training and community service, the organization has made a profound impact on the lives of countless children and young adults. However, the recent surge in the cost of Boys' Brigade uniform accessories such as belt, collar and cap badges, lanyard, glengarry and field service caps etc has become a pressing concern for many members (both young and old), parents and guardians, threatening to undermine the organization's mission and impact.
*The Challenges Posed by Rising Costs*
The rising cost of Boys' Brigade accessories has several disadvantages, including:
- Increased financial burden on members, parents and guardians, many of whom are already struggling to make ends meet
- Members are forced to dress inappropriately due to inability to afford the high-cost accessories
- Risk of pricing out vulnerable members, compromising the organization's inclusivity and accessibility
- Potential decline in membership and participation, undermining the organization's mission and impact
- Limited access to opportunities and experiences for young people from low-income backgrounds
*The Benefits of Regulation*
Regulating the prices of Boys' Brigade accessories can have numerous benefits, including:
- Increased affordability and accessibility for members from all backgrounds
- Improved inclusivity and diversity within the organization
- Enhanced image and reputation of the Boys' Brigade as a youth organization that values fairness and equity
- Increased participation and engagement from young people, leading to a stronger and more vibrant community
- Better alignment with the organization's mission and values, prioritizing the needs of its members
*The Way Forward*
The lack of regulation of prices has led to exuberant hike in prices of uniform accessories, making it difficult for many members to afford them. To address this issue, vendors should recognize the importance of the Boys' Brigade in shaping the lives of young people and regulate the prices of accessories to make them more affordable for members. Possible solutions include establishing partnerships among suppliers and manufacturers, introducing a subsidy scheme for Boys from low-income backgrounds, and encouraging philanthropists to support the organization and its members.
*Conclusion*
The rising cost of Boys' Brigade accessories is a pressing concern that requires immediate attention. I humbly call on appropriate authorities to kindly take steps to regulate the prices of these essential items, making them more affordable for members. By working together, we can ensure that the Boys' Brigade remains a beacon of hope and development for young people, regardless of their background or financial circumstances. The future of our young people depends on it. Our system should avail the Boy the opportunity to participate in Boys' Brigade activities fully, well and rightfully kitted with appropriate uniform accessories/materials.
*First for the Boy!* 🙏
