Happy Children's Day to our young beloved ones. May our children grow in love, grace, knowledge, understanding, wisdom and fear of God. May they be salt of the earth and light of the world as Christ our saviour. Amen.

Like Saint Charles Lwanga, we are all teachers and witnesses to Christian living by the examples of our own lives. We are all called upon to spread the word of God, whether by word or deed. By remaining courageous and unshakable in our faith during times of great moral and physical temptation, we live as Christ lived.

The Novena in honour of St. Charles Lwanga & Companions begins today, as we prepare spiritually for their feast day celebration.

May the intercession of St. Charles Lwanga & Companions continue to strengthen and guide us all.
Amen.

Saint Charles Lwanga and Companions’ Story

One of 22 Ugandan martyrs, Saint Charles Lwanga is the patron of youth and Catholic action in most of tropical Africa. He protected his fellow pages, aged 13 to 30, from the sexual demands of the Bagandan ruler, Mwanga, and encouraged and instructed them in the Catholic faith during their imprisonment for refusing the ruler’s demands.

Saint Charles Lwanga first learned of Christ’s teachings from two retainers in the court of Chief Mawulugungu. While a catechumen, he entered the royal household as assistant to Joseph Mukaso, head of the court pages.

On the night of Mukaso’s martyrdom for encouraging the African youths to resist Mwanga, Saint Charles Lwanga requested and received baptism. Imprisoned with his friends, Charles’ courage and belief in God inspired them to remain chaste and faithful.

For his own unwillingness to submit to the immoral acts and his efforts to safeguard the faith of his friends, Charles was burned to death at Namugongo on June 3, 1886, by Mwanga’s order.

When Pope Paul VI canonized these 22 martyrs on October 18, 1964, he also made reference to the Anglican pages martyred for the same reason.

Happy Pentecost Sunday.

Veni Sancte Spiritus. 🌿🕊🕊

Friends, in today’s Gospel (John 20:19–23), on the evening after his resurrection, the Lord appears to his disciples and greets them, saying, “Peace be with you.”

According to the Gospel accounts, the risen Jesus typically did two things: he showed his wounds and he pronounced a word of peace. The wounds of Jesus are a continual and salutary reminder of our sin. The author of life appeared in our midst and we killed him, and this gives the lie to any attempt at self-justification or exculpation.

But the risen Lord never leaves us in guilt; instead, he speaks the word “Shalom,” peace. This is the peace that the world cannot give, for it is the Shalom that comes from the heart of God.

In his letter to the Romans, Paul said, “I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (8:38–39). How does Paul know this? He knows it because we killed God, and God returned in forgiving love. He knows it because the enemies of Israel have been defeated.

Pentecost Sunday officially marks the end of the Easter season, at which point the Paschal candle is extinguished.

The symbolism and practice surrounding this moment carry a lot of meaning:

The Symbolism of the Timeline
1: The 50 Days: The Paschal candle represents the light of the Risen Christ. In the modern liturgy, it burns at every celebration throughout the entire 50 days of Eastertide (from the Passover) to emphasize the unity and wholeness of the season, concluding on Pentecost.

2: The Shift at Pentecost: When the candle is extinguished at the end of Pentecost Sunday, it signifies that the historical period of Christ's physical Easter appearances and the birth of the Church is fulfilled. The focus shifts from Christ physically bearing the light to the Holy Spirit dwelling within the faithful, sending *them* out to be the "light of the world."

Where Does the Candle Go Next?

Once the Easter season concludes, the Paschal candle is moved from its prominent place next to the ambo (pulpit) or altar to a permanent home, typically near the **baptismal font**.
Throughout the rest of the liturgical year (Ordinary Time), it is no longer lit for regular Sunday Masses, but it is brought out and lit for two major occasions:

1. Baptisms: To light the small baptismal candles given to the newly baptized, signifying they have received the light of Christ.
2. Funerals: Placed near the coffin as a reminder that the deceased has shared in Christ’s resurrection through their baptism.

Psalm:
Lord, send forth your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.

The Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. May 14, 2026

Colossians 3:1 “Since then you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above…”

Today we remember Ascension Day - the day Jesus was lifted before the eyes of His disciples and seated in glory, yet somehow nearer to us than ever before.
What must it have felt like to watch Him rise? To stand between grief and wonder… between goodbye and promise?

And yet His ascension was never abandonment. It was invitation.
Invitation to lift our eyes.
Invitation to trust the unseen work of God.
Invitation to live with eternity in our hearts and the presence of Jesus within us.

As a community, we pause today to remember that our hope is anchored not in what is temporary, but in the risen and reigning Christ.

Happy Ascension Day 🌿

This feast commemorates the visions of Our Lady seen near Fátima in Portugal in 1917 by three shepherd children, Lúcia dos Santos and her cousins Jacinta and Francisco Marto. The visions occurred on the 13th day of each month from May to October, and by October huge crowds were gathering at the site of the visions and reporting visions and miraculous occurrences themselves.

Pope John Paul II was devoted to Our Lady of Fátima and attributed his survival of an assassin’s bullet on 13 May 1981 to her intervention. Jacinta and Francisco Marto, who died in the great Spanish Flu pandemic of 1919-20, were beatified on 13 May 2000 and canonized by Pope Francis on 13 May 2017.

Prayer isn’t a formula for getting quick answers from God.
It’s an invitation into relationship with Him.

Too often we treat prayer like a search engine:
“God, give me clarity.”
“Fix this.”
“Show me the plan.”

But Christianity isn’t about chasing answers… it’s about encountering Jesus.

Even when life feels confusing, silent, or uncertain, prayer reminds us:
God is still present.
God is still good.
God is still near.

The deepest purpose of prayer isn’t information.
It’s communion.

Happy Sunday. 🌿🌿
