THIS IS WHAT THE WORD OF GOD HAS TO SAY ABOUT DIVORCE.
We all know that divorce rate is alarming and as believers we are not expected not to live like the world does.
I know when it comes to divorce cases in the church there are certain misconceptions here and there and people tend to rely solely in the own understanding rather than in the wisdom of God's Word.
My fellow brethren in Christ Jesus, this is me sharing the truth about God's stand point on the topic DIVORCE.
🌟 Matthew 19:3 (NLT) Some Pharisees came and tried to trap him with this question: “Should a man be allowed to divorce his wife for just any reason?”
🌟 Matthew 19:8-9 (NLT) Jesus replied, “Moses permitted divorce only as a concession to your hard heart, but it was not what God had originally intended.
And I tell you this, whoever divorces his wife and marries someone else commits adultery—unless his wife has been unfaithful. ”
🌟 Matthew 5:32 (NLT) But I say that a man who divorces his wife, unless she has been unfaithful, causes her to commit adultery. And anyone who marries a divorced woman also commits adultery.
🌟 1 Corinthians 7:15 (NLT) (But if the husband or wife who isn’t a believer insists on leaving, let them go. In such cases the believing husband or wife is no longer bound to the other, for God has called you to live in peace.)
🌟 1 Corinthians 7:17 (NLT) Each of you should continue to live in whatever situation the Lord has placed you, and remain as you were when God first called you. This is my rule for all the churches
👉👉 As a believer, know that God does not approve divorce, he acknowledged the rule of Moses because the people had a stubborn (hard heart) hence why Moses allowed them to hand their wives a writ of divorce also know as a paper of divorce.
👉👉 God's original stand point, is for a man to leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife and the two shall become one, and what God has joined together no man should put asunder. Matthew 19:4 - 8.
👉👉 What can break or dissolve a marriage is dea*th, as according to the marriage vow being said at the altar before God as a witness.
👉👉 Based on Moses law, it is only on the ground of UNFAITHFULNESS that a man can divorce his wife. In Matthew 5:32 lies the twist. Anyone who divorces his wife causes her to commit adultery and anyone who marries her equally commits adultery alongside the woman, as we all know that adultery. We know God forbids adultery. It's one of the fundamental commandments. Matthew 19:9 further emphasizes that whoever divorces his wife and married someone else commits adultery.
👉👉 1 Corinthians 7:15 is an exception to the divorce rule, that's where a believer marries and unbeliever and that unbeliever decides to live, then sure a believer is no longer bound to the other, unlike in the case of both believers.
👉👉 1 Corinthians 7:17 prescribes that both divorced partners are expect to remain as they were before they got married. That is they cannot remarry.
👉👉 While 1 Corinthians 7:39 prescribes the ground that one can remarry, that is if the spouse of such a person is dead and that makes the person free from the bond of marriage vows.
In conclusion, in my humble opinion, a divorced believer cannot remarry, reason being that, the divorce only separates him or her from their spouse and does not nullify(breaks) the existing marriage vows, unless his or her spouse is no more (dea*th) before one can such a person consider remarriage.
A believing spouse married to an unbeliever can remarry if the unbeliever walks away from the marriage, then such a believer is free from the marriage bond and is expected to live in peace. Such a person can choose to remarry or not.
👉👉 In this latter case scenario, the latter is free from the marriage, while the former is still bound by the marriage bond until either of the spouse is no more.
NB:
1 Corinthians 7:17 encourages such persons to live as God first called them and it's equally a rule to the churches.
