CONSECRATE YOURSELF

BH 349: I Am Thine, O Lord

1.I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard
Thy voice,
And it told thy love to me;
But I long to rise in the arms of faith,
And be closer drawn to Thee,
Draw me nearer, nearer,
nearer, blessed Lord,
To the cross where thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side.

2.Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
By the pow’r of grace divine;
Let my soul look up with up with a steadfast hope,
And my will be lost in Thine.

3.O the pure delight of a single hour
That before Thy throne I spend;
When before Thy throne I spend;
When I kneel in pray’r, and
with Thee, my God,
I commune as friend with friend!

4.There are depths of love that cannot know
Till I cross the narrow sea;
There are heights of joy that I may not reach
Till I rest in peace with Thee.

Memory verse: Slaughter the Passover lambs, consecrate yourselves and prepare [the lambs] for your fellow countrymen, doing what the LORD commanded through Moses. 2 Chronicles 35:6, NIV

Text: 2 Chronicles 35: 1-6, 16-19

2 Chronicles 35:1 Josiah celebrated the Passover to the LORD in Jerusalem, and the Passover lamb was slaughtered on the fourteenth day of the first month.

2 Chronicles 35:2 He appointed the priests to their duties and encouraged them in the service of the LORD’s temple.

2 Chronicles 35:3 He said to the Levites, who instructed all Israel and who had been consecrated to the LORD: "Put the sacred ark in the temple that Solomon son of David king of Israel built. It is not to be carried about on your shoulders. Now serve the LORD your God and his people Israel.

2 Chronicles 35:4 Prepare yourselves by families in your divisions, according to the instructions written by David king of Israel and by his son Solomon.

2 Chronicles 35:5 "Stand in the holy place with a group of Levites for each subdivision of the families of your fellow Israelites, the lay people.

2 Chronicles 35:6 Slaughter the Passover lambs, consecrate yourselves and prepare the lambs for your fellow Israelites, doing what the LORD commanded through Moses."

2 Chronicles 35:16 So at that time the entire service of the LORD was carried out for the celebration of the Passover and the offering of burnt offerings on the altar of the LORD, as King Josiah had ordered.

2 Chronicles 35:17 The Israelites who were present celebrated the Passover at that time and observed the Festival of Unleavened Bread for seven days.

2 Chronicles 35:18 The Passover had not been observed like this in Israel since the days of the prophet Samuel; and none of the kings of Israel had ever celebrated such a Passover as did Josiah, with the priests, the Levites and all Judah and Israel who were there with the people of Jerusalem.

2 Chronicles 35:19 This Passover was celebrated in the eighteenth year of Josiah’s reign.

____________

In religious settings, the word 'consecration' is often used in reference to the official -ordaining of a person as a pastor, priest, or missionary. This implies that consecration is something reserved for a category of people.

But in actual fact, consecration is something that every Christian should practise. Consecration is necessary for Christians to deepen their relationship with Christ.

Today's passage describes how Josiah carried out reformation in Jerusalem. He restored the religious practices that had been neglected and gave orders to consecrate the people unto God.

A key part of this reformation was his emphasis on the need for the people to purify themselves for the celebration of the Passover.

He also told them that they did not need to protect the ark anymore since the temple had been built by

Solomon for that purpose. They should only restore it to its rightful place and prepare the people for worship.

The reign of King Josiah brought a remarkable change to their worship experience because of the way he prepared and united the people for the purpose of celebrating the faithfulness of God in their lives.

As a believer, know that every opportunity to fellowship with God reminder that your life should be consecrated to Him.

Whether at home, workplace, church or anywhere else, live as God's temple where His worship is ongoing and His glory is continually revealed.

Live a consecrated life always and shun anything that can desecrate you so you can be a carrier of His glory.

Perceive: Every opportunity fellowship with demands consecration with God.

Ponder: How often do you consecrate yourself to meet with the Lord?

Practise: Make every effort to consecrate yourself as you set out today.

Pray: Dear Jesus, consecrate me by Your blood.

Prayer: Lord, stir up my spirit to receive what heaven has for me in the mighty name of Jesus.

LIVING IN THE LIGHT OF CHRIST

BH 348: Let Others See Jesus in You

1.While passing thro’ this world of sin,
And others your life shall view,
Be clean and pure without, within,
Let others see Jesus in you,

Let others see Jesus in you
Let others see Jesus in you;
Keep telling the story, be faithful and true.
Let others see Jesus in you

2.Your life’s a book before their eyes,
They ’re reading it thro’ and thro’;
Say, does it point them to the skies,
Do others see Jesus in you?

3.What joy ‘twill be at set of sun,
In mansions beyond the blue,
To find some souls that you have won;
Let others see Jesus in you.

4.Then live for Christ both day and night,
Be faithful, be brave and true,
And lead the lost to life and light;
Let others see Jesus in you.

Memory verse: For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord Live as children of light. Ephesians 5:8, NIV

Text: Ephesians 5:3-14

Ephesians 5:3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.

Ephesians 5:4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.

Ephesians 5:5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person —such a person is an idolater —has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Ephesians 5:6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient.

Ephesians 5:7 Therefore do not be partners with them.

Ephesians 5:8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light

Ephesians 5:9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)

Ephesians 5:10 and find out what pleases the Lord.

Ephesians 5:11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.

Ephesians 5:12 It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.

Ephesians 5:13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible —and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.

Ephesians 5:14 This is why it is said: "Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."

__________

Light is a sought-after commodity anywhere because of its potential to 'transform the environment, illuminate darkness and expose hidden things. Light produces warmth and has the capacity to enhance growth and bring acceleration.

One can now understand why Apostle Paul told the Ephesian believers to bring to bear the light they possess. Paul wrote to point their attention to the importance of having a spiritual walk with God through Jesus Christ.

He admonished them to walk as children of light since they now possess a new identity in Christ. As light, they are to have nothing to do with anything that is characterised by darkness such as sexual immorality because anyone who indulges in such an act will have no place in God's kingdom and would face God's wrath. Paul's admonition is that their lifestyle should show that they are children of light.

Any believer who still engages in sin is walking in darkness and not in the light. Walking in darkness makes one vulnerable to the attacks of the devil. Secret sins and hypocritical lifestyle strengthen darkness and should not be associated with a child of light.

Do you produce fruit in keeping with the light that you have received in Christ? Or you still find some traits of darkness manifesting in your life? Open your heart to Jesus Christ today and let Him flood your heart with His light so you can live

Ponder: What are the your true calling as His light.

Perceive: Walking in the Light of Christ immunes us against darkness. manifestations of the works of darkness in you?

Practise: Speak to someone who lives in darkness to embrace the light found in Christ alone.

Pray: Lord Jesus, give me the grace to walk in Your light always.

Prayer: Whoever is gathered against my family shall fall for our sake.

RESTORE US AGAIN, O GOD

BH 167: Breathe on Me, Breath of God

1.Breath on me, Breath of God,
Fill me with life anew,
That I may love what Thou dost love,
And do what Thou wouldst do.

2.Breath on me, breath of God,
Until my heart is pure,
Until with Thee I will Thy will,
To do and to endure

3.Breathe on me, Breathe of God,
Till I am wholly Thine,
Till I am this earthly part of me
Glows with Thy fire divine.

4.Breathe on me, Breathe of God,
So shall I never die,
But live with Thee the perfect life
Of Thine eternity. Amen

*Memory verse:* Restore us again, O God our Saviour, and put away your displeasure toward us. Psalm 85:4, NIV

*Text: Psalm 85:1-13*

Psalms 85:1 You, LORD, showed favor to your land; you restored the fortunes of Jacob.

Psalms 85:2 You forgave the iniquity of your people and covered all their sins.

Psalms 85:3 You set aside all your wrath and turned from your fierce anger.

Psalms 85:4 Restore us again, God our Savior, and put away your displeasure toward us.

Psalms 85:5 Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger through all generations?

Psalms 85:6 Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?

Psalms 85:7 Show us your unfailing love, LORD, and grant us your salvation.

Psalms 85:8 I will listen to what God the LORD says; he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants — but let them not turn to folly.

Psalms 85:9 Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land.

Psalms 85:10 Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other.

Psalms 85:11 Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven.

Psalms 85:12 The LORD will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest.

Psalms 85:13 Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps.
___________

Restoration is the process of bringing something or someone back to a satisfactory state. It could also mean to return something to an earlier or better condition.

Oftentimes, before restoration can take place, infringement must have occurred. The nation or the person whose right has been infringed upon becomes vulnerable. This must have been the reason behind the psalmists' cry to the Lord for the restoration of His people after several years in captivity.

The rights of the Israelites had been infringed upon by the enemies because of their sins. They suffered hardship in the hands of their enemies. The sons of Korah, a tribe of Levite who are the priestly clan took it upon themselves to pray, along with the people, unto God for restoration.

Their prayer started with the acknowledgement of the kindness they had enjoyed from God in the past and how God forgave their sins and did not use it against them. They cried unto God for restoration, because He is the only One who can restore them and bring back their lost glory. They were so sure of God's response that after their plea, peace must follow.

Sin and the devil can infringe on people's rights and liberties such that the people find themselves in a place of lost glory. What are those things you have also lost to the enemies? Are there virtues that have been taken away from you due to carefree attitude to spiritual things? God can restore them back to you, if you cry to Him for help. Talk to God in prayers today. He will hear your cry and restore all that you have lost.

Perceive: God still restores people who genuinely seek Him for help.

Ponder: In what ways have you been seeking restoration for Nigeria?

Practise: Today, genuinely cry to God for the recovery of all that you have lost in the past.

Pray: Dear Father, please in Your mercy, restore unto me all my lost glory.

Prayer: Thank You Lord for sustaining and preserving us. Let there be a great sharing of wisdom and knowledge as CED Conference for Hope, Rivers, Bayelsa, Imo & Emmanuel Conferences begin at FBC, Ovom, Bayelsa State today.

WE ARE MORE THAN CONQUERORS THROUGH CHRIST

BH 412: Onward Christian Soldiers

1. Onward, Christian soldiers,
Marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus
Going on before!
Christ, the royal Master,
Leads against the foe;
Forward into battle,
See His banner go!
Onward, Christian soldiers,
Marching as to war,
With the cross of cross of Jesus
Going on before!

2. At the sign of triumph
Satan’s host doth flee;
On then Christian soldiers,
On to victory !
Hell’s foundations quiver
At the shout of praise ;
Brother, lift your voices,
Loud your anthems raise!

3. Like a mighty army
Moves the church of God;
Brothers, we are trading
Where the saints have trod,
We are not divided;
All one body we,
One in hope and doctrine,
One in charity.

4. Onward, then, ye people,
Join our happy throng,
Blend with ours your voices
In the triumph song;
Glory, loud, and honor,
Unto Christ the king;
This thro’ countless ages
Men and angels sing. Amen

Memory verse: No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. Romans 8:37, NIV

Text: Romans 8:29-39

Romans 8:29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

Romans 8:30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.

Romans 8:31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Romans 8:32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all —how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

Romans 8:33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.

Romans 8:34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died —more than that, who was raised to life —is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

Romans 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

Romans 8:36 As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." [^10]

Romans 8:37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Romans 8:38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, [^11] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,

Romans 8:39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
__________

Robert D. Pace wrote: "Our mind is the construction zone for victory or defeat. If we continually manufacture negative, despondent thoughts, our lives will create a house of straw that will eventually implode!

But if we manufacture positive, Christ-centred, faith-filled thoughts, we will build a fortress that no enemy can destroy." The assertion agrees with Paul's letter to the Roman Christians in today's text.

Paul encouraged the Roman Christians to stand firm in their faith, especially in times of life-challenging situations that may threaten their well-being and faith.

They are to build their minds to establish a triumphant life; having known Christ, they have been chosen by God and so they can no longer be condemned because they have the Holy Spirit, and that Jesus Christ interceding on their behalf.

Though there may difficult times, God is ever near to give them the power to conquer through Jesus Christ. Therefore, they need not to fear anything.

The Christian lives a victorious life and is free from judgment because of Christ's death and righteousness. You are free from defeat because Christ lives in you by His Spirit, and you share His life.

You are free from discouragement because Christ is coming for you, and you shall share His glory. You are free from fear because Christ intercedes for you, and you cannot be separated from His love.

No matter what you are going through now, do not succumb, but rather rest assured that Christ is with you. Your life is not defined by circumstances, but by who you are in Christ. You are more than a conqueror through Jesus Christ.

Perceive: Believers are more than conquerors through Christ.

Ponder: How often do you remember and value your victory in Christ?

Practise: Identify someone you can strengthen through the assurance of Christ's victory in your neighbourhood this week.

Pray: Father, please help me always to be victorious in Jesus' name.

SAVED BY GOD'S MERCY

BH 200: Grace Greater than our Sin

1.Marvelous grace of our Loving Lord,
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt.
Yonder on Calvary’s mount out poured,
There where the blood of the Lamb was split.
Grace, grace, God’s grace.
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within:
Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that is greater thin all our sin.

2.Dark is the stain that we cannot hide.
What can avail to wash it away?
Look! there is flowing a crimson tide;
Whiter than snow you may be today.

3.Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace.
Freely bestowed on all who believe;
You that are longing to His face,
Will, you this moment His grace receive?

Memory verse: But when the kindness and love of God our Saviour appease he saved us, not because of righteous things we had do because of his mercy. He saved us through the wasking rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. Titus 3:4-5, NV

Text: Titus 3:3-11

Titus 3:3 At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.

Titus 3:4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared,

Titus 3:5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,

Titus 3:6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior,

Titus 3:7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.

Titus 3:8 This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.

Titus 3:9 But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless.

Titus 3:10 Warn a divisive person once, and then warn them a second time. After that, have nothing to do with them.

Titus 3:11 You may be sure that such people are warped and sinful; they are self-condemned.

___________

Mercy is unmerited pardon. The Bible records that there is righteous man; everyone needs mercy. Indeed, there is nothing exceptional that we have done as human beings to eam God's mercy after the fall of Adam; yet God has been merciful to us.

Apostle Paul wrote to Titus, his Gentile convert in Christ, exhorting him on the principles of Christian living. He reminded him of the destitute state humankind was before Jesus Christ came to make Himself a propitiation for the sin of the whole world.

Paul also enlightened him concerning the kindness and love of God that humankind have enjoyed Even when we had erred and deserved to be punished, God saved us, not because of anything righteous we had done, but because of His mercy. God saved us by the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

As a Christian, you have been given a rare privilege; you have been saved by the mercy of God. You have received an unmerited pardon through the blood of Christ and not because of your righteousness.

Do you still feel you are alienated from God after your salvation? Does the devil keep reminding you of the punishment of your sins of the past? Say to the devil, "I have been saved by God's mercy; therefore, I am set at liberty."

Perceive: Aside the mercy of God, there is no other source of hope for humankind.

Ponder: The mercy of God is from everlasting to everlasting.

Practise: Make up your mind to believe in God and be saved by His mercy.

Pray: Father, I thank You for saving me through Your mercy.

Prayer: Father, thoroughly equip me in every good work.

FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD

BH 430: Must I Go, and Empty-Handed

1.Must I go, and empty handed,
Thus my dear Redeemer meet,
Not one day of service give Him,
Lay no trophy at His feet?
Must I go, and empty handed?
Must I meet my Saviour so?
Not one soul with which to greet Him:
Must I empty handed go?

2.Not at death I shrink nor falter,
For my Saviour saves me now:
But to meet Him empty handed,
Through of that now clouds my brow.

3.O the years in sinning wasted,
Could I but recall them now,
I would give them to my Saviour,
To His will I’d gladly bow.

4.O ye saints, arouse, be earnest,
Up and work while yet ‘tis day;
Ere the night of death o’er take thee,
Strive for souls while still you may.

Memory verse: In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. James 2:17, NIV

Text: James 2:14-26

James 2:16 If one of you says to them, "Go in peace; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?

James 2:17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

James 2:18 But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.

James 2:19 You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that —and shudder.

James 2:20 You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless ?

James 2:21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?

James 2:22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.

James 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and he was called God’s friend.

James 2:24 You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.

James 2:25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the pr******te considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?

James 2:26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

__________

We have opportunities every day to meet the needs of people around us. It can be as simple as making sure a confused customer finds the right item for his/her need or offering help to a new co-worker who needs help but is afraid to ask.

Today's text clearly says that a person is justified not by faith alone, but by faith accompanied with good deeds. It is vain to say that we have faith in God if there are no works in our lives resulting from such faith.

James urges us to show concern for those who are vulnerable or marginalised. These people are found everywhere in the society. Kindness can be in form of giving food to someone who is hungry, helping someone to find a job and so on.

Faith that does not lead to works is dead; in other words, it is not faith at all. The Scripture says, "As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is also dead" (James 2:26).

We are not saved by good works, but good works must accompanying our faith after we have received Christ. Genuine faith is accompanied by good works. Today, demonstrate your faith by giving practical help to those who need it.

Perceive: Faith without good deeds is dead.

Ponder: Faith must be demonstrated with action.

Practise: Let faith produce willingness to help others in need as you go out today.

Pray: Help us, O God, to have the faith that reaches out to others in love and service.

A GODLY LIFE OVERCOMES EVIL

BH 56: Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah

1.Guide Me, O Thou great Jehovah,
Pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but Thou art mighty,
Hold me with Thy powerful hand;
Bread of heaven, Feed me till
I want no more;
Bread of heaven, Feed me till
I want no more.

2.Open now the crystal fountain,
Whence the healing waters flow:
Let the fire and cloudy pillar
Lead me all my journey through:
Strong Deliverer, Be Thou still
My strength and shield;
Strong Deliverer, Be Thou still
My strength and shield.

3.When I tread the verge of Jordan,
Bid my anxious fears subside;
Bear me through the swelling current.
Land me safe on Canaa’s side;
Songs of praise I will ever give to Thee;
Songs of praise I will ever give to Thee.

Memory verse: Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21, NIV

Text: Romans 12:9-21

Romans 12:9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.

Romans 12:10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.

Romans 12:11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.

Romans 12:12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

Romans 12:13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

Romans 12:14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

Romans 12:15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.

Romans 12:16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

Romans 12:17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.

Romans 12:18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Romans 12:19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord.

Romans 12:20 On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."

Romans 12:21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

_________

A common phrase in our world today is "Tit for tat." The slogan encourages revenge in places where God's Word is not given priority. We live in a world where hatred and hostility has become part of our daily lives.

It seems genuine love is rare. Many people live with bitterness and hurt, looking for opportunities to pay back those who have wronged them with the same measure.

The message of Apostle Paul to the Christians in Rome, in today's text points out the godly attitudes believers in Christ must exhibit in a world that is full of all sorts of ungodliness.

Paul encouraged his audience to love sincerely, hate evil, love what is good and demonstrate brotherly love towards others. He further challenged them to be zealous, spiritually fervent and serve the Lord wholeheartedly.

They must also be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, share with others in their pains, gains and be more prayerful. Paul warned against ungodly attitude such as raining curses, pride, conceit and revenge (vv. 14-17). Paul's exhortation is centred on living a godly life.

God expects all Christians to live in harmony and uphold His precepts in order to overcome evil. God knows that there are wicked people all around, but He wants Christians to show Christ's love regardless. This should be the anchor on which our lives rest as we relate with people.

Perceive: Christians should always look for the good of others instead of repaying evil for evil.

Ponder: Why do some Christians find it difficult to relate with non-Christians today?

Practise: Pray for your enemies and show Christ's love to them.

Pray: Lord Jesus, give me grace to live in harmony with everyone around me, in Jesus' name.

Prayer: Lord, sift and set aside everything that cannot stand the test of Your will in our lives.
