Omar Yamaoka, originally Mitsutaro Yamaoka, is widely recognized as one of the earliest Japanese individuals to embrace Islam. He converted around 1909 in Bombay after meeting the Tatar scholar Abdurreshid Ibrahim, whose teachings inspired him to accept Islam. Following his conversion, he adopted the name Omar. He is also known for performing Hajj in the early 20th century, making him one of the first Japanese Muslims to visit Makkah and Madinah. His journey played an important role in introducing Islamic awareness to Japan through his writings and experiences.
Although he contributed to promoting understanding of Islam in Japan, claims that he personally built the Tokyo Mosque are not accurate. His legacy remains important as a pioneer figure in the early history of Islam in Japan.

No matter how many prayers a person has missed, the mercy of Allah is still greater. The believer is never told to give up. Every sincere repentance and every sincere sujood is a step back toward Allah.

Allah says:

“And establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater.”
Surah Al-‘Ankabut 29:45

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The five daily prayers, and from one Jumu‘ah to the next, and from Ramadan to Ramadan, are expiation for the sins committed between them, so long as major sins are avoided.”
Sahih Muslim, Hadith 233

The Prophet ﷺ also said:

“Allah extends His Hand during the night to accept the repentance of the one who sinned during the day, and He extends His Hand during the day to accept the repentance of the one who sinned during the night.”
Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2759
