CAN ANY WORK FOR GOD BE DONE WITHOUT PRAYER?
Prayer is the foundation of our service to God.
We can preach, teach, sing, give, evangelize, lead, organize programs and serve in the house of God—but without prayer, our labour can become mere human activity.
Jesus said:
“Without me ye can do nothing.” — John 15:5
Prayer is how we acknowledge that we cannot do God's work with human strength alone.
We need His wisdom, His power, His direction and His grace.
Even Jesus, though fully God, deliberately made prayer a priority.
He often withdrew to solitary places to pray.
Before major moments in His earthly ministry, He prayed.
If Jesus prayed, how much more should we?
The disciples understood this. They did not ask Jesus,
“Teach us how to preach.” They asked:
“Lord, teach us to pray.” — Luke 11:1
Why?
Because they understood that effective ministry flows from a prayerful life.
Prayer is not an activity we add to ministry.
Prayer is the engine room of ministry.
We pray before we serve, so that we don't serve in our own strength.
We pray while we serve, so that we remain sensitive to the Holy Spirit.
We pray after we serve, because only God can preserve the fruit of our labour.
The Bible says:
“Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD.” — Zechariah 4:6
You may have the gift, but prayer keeps the gift yielded to God.
You may have the platform, but prayer keeps your heart at the altar.
You may have experience, but prayer keeps you dependent on God.
Never become so busy doing the work of God that you stop talking to the God of the work.
Before the pulpit, pray.
Before the assignment, pray.
Before the meeting, pray.
Before making decisions, pray.
Before stepping into spiritual battle, pray.
The work may be in your hands, but the power must come from God.
🔥 PRAYER IS NOT PREPARATION FOR THE WORK—PRAYER IS PART OF THE WORK.
Lord, make us servants who do not merely work for You, but walk with You, hear You, depend on You and pray to You.
May our service flow from the secret place.
May our labour carry the fragrance of prayer.
And may everything we do for You bring glory to Your name.
Amen.
