PUBLIC STATEMENT BY Prophet :JC DANGYANG
A Call For Self -defense -not- Anarchy .
1. *My people are dying*. Since 2015, my ancestral village FAS and others like Mahanga, Jol, Bassa ,miango,Mangu, Bokkos and others have been attacked repeatedly. Our people have been killed, our mothers and sisters r***d, and our lands forcefully occupied. We are now displaced, taking refuge in neighboring villages. The Gbong Gwom Jos, former Governor Simon Lalong,, Governor Mutfwang have publicly confirmed that land grabbing is real in Plateau.
2. *Government has a constitutional duty to protect us*. Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution says “the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.” For 9 years, we have heard “we are on top of the situation,” yet there are no tangible arrests or prosecutions of those who sacked Fas,etc .This is a failure of that duty.
3. *We have a right to life*. Section 33(1) Constitution guarantees every person the right to life. Section 33(2)(a) and Sections 59-62 of the Penal Code give every citizen the right to defend himself, his family, and his property from unlawful violence. This is not anarchy; it is law.
4. *Our demand is simple*:
- a. Federal and Plateau State Government should immediately enforce the *Plateau State Anti-Land Grabbing Law 2020*, arrest the armed occupiers of Fas, Mahanga, Jol, Fas, and prosecute them for murder, r**e, and terrorism.
- b. Return displaced persons to their ancestral homes with adequate security.
- c. If government cannot protect us, then lawfully empower and license community vigilantes under police supervision, or grant licenses under the *Fi****ms Act 1959* to qualified citizens for self-defense. We will not break the law, but we will not watch our people be wiped out.
5. *On calls for my arrest*: It is Section 17(2)(a) of the Constitution that “every citizen shall have equality before the law.” You cannot threaten to arrest a pastor for quoting the Constitution and Penal Code on self-defense, while the killers of our people in Pas walk free since 2015. That is selective justice.
6. *We welcome all Nigerians*. Plateau has always been a home to all who come in peace. We reject only those who come with guns to kill, r**e, and take land that is not theirs.
We will continue to pray, and we will continue to demand that government does its job. But let it be known: *We have a legal and moral right to defend our lives when attacked*
