OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM PLATEAU STATE CHRISTIAN PILGRIMS WELFARE BOARD

February 3, 2026

In light of recent developments, we revisit our January 24, 2026 statement addressing allegations by Jacob Choji Pwakim regarding our 2026 Christian pilgrimage funding.

While affirming the veracity of our initial response, we wish to withdraw the paragraph referencing Mr. Pwakim as "anti-Christian with blatant attack on the Christian community, not just in Plateau, but across Nigeria and globally".

Following constructive dialogue, we acknowledge that Mr. Pwakim, a devout Christian, used a published source and acted without I'll intent. We appreciate his cooperation in correcting the record and commitment to unity.

Transparency in governance is a priority for the Governor Caleb Mutfwang administration in Plateau State, with expenditures planned and executed within approved budget limits.

We appeal to the community, CSOs, and media to verify facts through official channels before circulating information, promoting accountability and truthfulness vital for communal harmony and trust in leadership.

We reaffirm our dedication to transparency, accountability, and community harmony, urging the public to focus on facts and trust our mission to serve pilgrims' welfare.

Sincerely,

Rev. Yusufu Wanson Bagu,
Executive Secretary
Plateau State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board.

PRESS RELEASE

PLATEAU STATE CHRISTIAN PILGRIMS WELFARE BOARD AFFIRMS SAFETY OF PILGRIMS IN ISRAEL AMID REGIONAL TENSIONS IN THE MIDDLE EAST

Date: March 1, 2026

The Plateau State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board would like to issue an official statement to assure the public that the first batch of 294 pilgrims from Plateau State currently in Israel is safe and secure, despite the rising tensions in the Middle East caused by ongoing military actions involving Israel and the United States against Iran.

We recognize the heightened concerns among families, communities, and all Nigerians regarding the safety of our pilgrims during this critical time. We want to reaffirm that the welfare of our pilgrims is the utmost priority of the Israeli Embassy and they have implemented comprehensive safety measures to ensure that the Pilgrims are protection. Our delegates in Israel are working in collaboration with local authorities, the Nigerian Embassy, and other security agencies to monitor the situation closely and provide real-time updates.

As part of their pilgrimage experience, our pilgrims are not only engaged in profound spiritual activities but are also kept in designated safe zones and are under continuous surveillance. We have established a robust communication system that allows for constant contact with the pilgrims who are currently in Jordan in preparation for their return back to Nigeria, enabling them to remain connected with their families back home while offering them support and reassurance.

Additionally, we are pleased to announce that the first batch of 294 pilgrims are expected to return to Nigeria soon. As preparations for their return are underway, we are coordinating with airline services to ensure a smooth and timely journey home.

Furthermore, the Board is actively facilitating worship gatherings, prayers, and counselling sessions for our pilgrims, allowing them to focus on their spiritual journey amid the ongoing situation. We are in touch with medical personnel to ensure that health services are readily available should there be any need.

We are grateful for the outpouring of support and prayers from Nigerians and the church community during this time. Your solidarity strengthens our resolve to protect our pilgrims and guide them through this significant journey of faith.

We implore the public to remain calm and trust in the measures we have put in place. The Board remains dedicated to transparency and will continue to provide updates as needed. We encourage everyone to join us in prayer for peace in the region and for the safe return of our pilgrims.

For any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our office at No. 2, Constitution Hill Road, Jos Plateau State.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

E-Signed:

Rev. Yusufu Wanson Bagu

OFFICIAL CLARIFICATION AND SUPPORT FOR 5 PLATEAU CHRISTIAN PILGRIMS LEFT BEHIND IN JORDAN

We at the Plateau State Christian Pilgrims Warfare Board, on behalf of the chairman and board members, the executive Secretary and entire staff hope this message finds you well.

We are reaching out to address a concerning situation that has come to our attention regarding five individuals who departed Nigeria on Sunday as part of our first batch for the 2026 pilgrimage and were left behind in Jordan. These individuals were not granted visas for entry into Israel, which has regrettably impacted their spiritual journey.

It is important to clarify that the issuance of visas to Israel is solely the prerogative of the Israeli embassy. The NCPC (National Christian Pilgrims Commission) plays no role in this decision-making process. However, it is our belief that timely and effective communication from the NCPC to our board is vital.

Unfortunately, we were not informed of these developments in a timely manner, which left us unable to adequately prepare our response or communicate the necessary details to the individuals affected. Had we been informed in advance, we could have reached out to the pilgrims promptly to let them know that their pilgrimage would terminate in Jordan, thereby alleviating some of the distress associated with this experience.

We deeply empathize with the pilgrims who are now facing uncertainty and disappointment. Their faith and commitment to partake in this sacred journey are commendable, and it is disheartening that circumstances beyond their control have affected their pilgrimage.

We urge the National Christian Pilgrims Commission NCPC to improve its communication protocols to ensure that all pertinent information is relayed effectively. This will prevent such oversights in the future and better equip us to support our pilgrims.

It is important to clarify, that the Plateau state Christian Pilgrims warfare Board is not responsible for the situation which affected the 5 Pilgrims, however In light of this situation, we have to extended our heartfelt support to the individuals left behind. We have made commitment by reaching out to the Jordan Tours to accommodate them throughout their stay as well as engaging them in visiting some significant places until those in Israel return.

We have intensified efforts in every possible way, whether through providing information, arranging accommodations, or helping them navigate their next steps. It is our hope that with collective effort, we can find a resolution that addresses their concerns while respecting the complexities of the visa process.

Furthermore, It is also noteworthy that the challenges faced by the 5 Plateau State pilgrims are not unique to our state or Nigeria, but a common experience shared by many African nations and countries worldwide. The complexities of visa processing and international travel can affect anyone, regardless of their background or destination.

We therefore use this opportunity to highlight the need for enhanced collaboration and communication among relevant authorities, including visa-issuing embassies, to mitigate the impact of such incidents on pilgrims and travelers.

Finally, We wish to reiterate our commitment to continue working with the NCPC and other stakeholders to ensure that Nigerian pilgrims receive the support they need to fulfill their spiritual obligations.

Thank you for your attention to this pressing matter. We look forward to your cooperation as we strive to enhance the pilgrimage experience for our faithful participants and work together to ensure that all pilgrims are cared for and supported.

With sincere regards,

Rev. Yusuf Wanson Bagu:
Executive Secretary, Plateau State Christian Pilgrims Warfare Board.

CLARIFICATION ON MISLEADING INFORMATION BY ONE JACOB CHOJI PWAKIM REGARDING PLATEAU STATE CHRISTIAN PILGRIMAGE FUNDING

February 24, 2026

The Plateau State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board wishes to address recent allegations circulated on social media allegedly by one Jacob Choji Pwakim, claiming that the Plateau State Government has allocated ₦7.48 billion for Christian pilgrimage and purportedly spent over ₦6.8 million per person for the year 2026. These statements are not only false but deeply misleading, aiming to create discord and misinform the public.

Firstly, it is crucial to clarify that the Plateau State Government has not earmarked ₦7.48 billion for Christian pilgrimage services in 2026. This figure is significantly exaggerated and does not reflect the actual budgetary provisions as reviewed and approved by relevant authorities.

The false write-up is designed to undermine the positive initiatives and good works of the Plateau state Governor aimed at promoting spiritual upliftment within the state. Such misleading information seeks to distract from the genuine efforts being made to foster growth and development in our community.

Transparency in governance is a priority for the Governor Caleb Mutfwang administration in Plateau State, and any expenditures related to pilgrimage are planned and executed within the limits of the approved budget.

The claim by Jacob Choji Pwakim, that ₦6.8 million was spent per person by the Plateau state government for the 2026 Christian pilgrimage is also unfounded. Traditionally, the cost for the 2026 Christian Pilgrimage in Plateau State per person is ₦3 million and it involve various factors, such as travel, accommodation, and other logistical expenses.

The actual cost per person is structured to ensure affordability and accessibility, aligning with the welfare of our citizens. The Board is dedicated to facilitating pilgrimage experiences that are not only spiritually enriching but also economically feasible for participants.

The Plateau State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board views Jacob Choji Pwakim's assertion as a blatant attack on the Christian community, not just in Plateau State, but across Nigeria and globally. His comments are seen as divisive and hurtful, aimed at sowing discord.

We recognize that such reports may be driven by interests that wish to sow seeds of confusion and distrust among the populace. It is essential for citizens to critically evaluate the sources of such information and understand the potential agendas behind them. We urge the public to seek clarity directly from the Plateau State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board for accurate information.

The Plateau State Government is committed to providing support for Christian pilgrimage while adhering to ethical governance practices. We encourage open dialogues about pilgrimage affairs and welcome any inquiries regarding our operations, funding, and the overall pilgrimage process.

We urge members of the community and the media to verify facts through official channels before circulating information. This will promote a culture of accountability and truthfulness that is vital for the enhancement of communal harmony and trust in leadership.

In conclusion, our message to the public is clear: The Plateau State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board is dedicated to ensuring that all pilgrimage activities are carried out with utmost integrity and respect for our citizens' needs. We appreciate your understanding and support in dismissing these unfounded claims and continuing to promote a united and informed community.

Sincerely,

Rev. Yusuf Wanson Bagu Executive Secretary Plateau State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board.
