THE EVOLUTION OF ECWA's NAMES

What we have today as Evangelical Church of West Africa which later metamophosized into Evangelical Church Winning All was first coined by Rowland Bingham

As a means of indigenizing this Mission, the name was changed to Evangelical Church of West Africa in 1954. ECWA was registered with the Nigerian Government on 11th June, 1956 as Association of Evangelical Churches in West Africa but later the term association was removed. It was registered with eight districts
1. Bauchi
2. Gwari
3. Kano/Katsina
4. Nupe
5. Sokoto
6. Tangale/Waja/Gombe
7. Yoruba
8. Zaria/Plateau

In 2011 the name was changed to Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) to reflect its present global reality.

At the time of its incorporation, ECWA has the following people as her pioneer Trustees

6. Mallam Abubakar Daniya from Gusau, Sokoto DCC
7. Mallam Dangwaram from Biliri, Tangale/Waja DCC
8. Mallam Iliya Ari from Kukar Gadu, Bauchi/ Borno DCC.

Today, ECWA has grown into a global movement with more than 90 District Church Councils, over 650 Local Church Councils, and a network of more than 6,000 local churches. Its membership now exceeds 10 million believers spread across Nigeria and beyond, with vibrant congregations in Chad, Niger, Malawi, Kenya, The Gambia, Israel, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States of America.

TEXT: GENESIS 6:1-8
TOPIC: FAVOUR IN THE MIDST OF TOTAL UNGODLINESS

Genesis 6:1-8
[1]Then the people began to multiply on the earth, and daughters were born to them.
[2]The sons of God saw the beautiful women and took any they wanted as their wives.
[3]Then the lord said, “My Spirit will not put up with humans for such a long time, for they are only mortal flesh. In the future, their normal lifespan will be no more than 120 years.”
[4]In those days, and for some time after, giant Nephilites lived on the earth, for whenever the sons of God had in*******se with women, they gave birth to children who became the heroes and famous warriors of ancient times.
[5]The lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil.
[6]So the lord was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart.
[7]And the lord said, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every living thing—all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.”
[8]But Noah found favor with the lord. [NLT]

INSPIRATION
Man is totally depraved and sinful state. Man in his natural state is totally sinful, wicked and evil such that there is no good in him. And that includes us all. Everyone, without exception, in his or her natural state, is capable of unimaginable sin, wickedness and evil. Jeremiah 17:9-10 says, "The heart is the most deceitful thing there is and desperately wicked. No one can really know how bad it is!" If not for the general grace of God that restrains sin, wickedness, and evil (2 Thessalonians 2:1-12), and the coming of Christ and consequent work of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of men and women who put their faith in Him as Savior and Lord, this world would have been ripe for destruction like the time of Noah several times over! Nevertheless, no matter the multiplication and intensity of sin, wickedness, and evil, if we remain faithful to God in this increasingly sinful, wicked, evil, and godless world, we shall experience His favor like Noah.

QUESTION: Have you accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and have been born again or are you still in your natural sinful, wicked, evil and godless state?

PRAYER: Oh God, help us all realize that in our natural state, we are sinful, wicked, evil and godless. Grant the grace to as many as are yet to repent and accept Jesus as Savior and Lord. Amen.
