MASSAGE: PST.E.T.OLADUNNI

1. INTRODUCTION
Imagine a small village surrounded by a raging army. The villagers have no weapons, no army, no plan. Fear grips them. Then suddenly, a mighty general passes by, sees their situation, and says "Stand aside. This battle is mine."

That’s exactly what happened to the men of Jabesh-Gilead in 1 Samuel 11. They were helpless, outnumbered, about to surrender. But when Saul allowed the Spirit of God to take over, God fought for them and gave them victory.

Today, some battles in your life are too big for your wisdom, strength, or connections. Like Jabesh-Gilead, you need to cry: "Oh God, Fight My Battle For Me!"

*2. BODY OF MESSAGE - EXPOSITION OF TEXT 1 SAMUEL 11:1-15*
1. *The Threat of the Enemy* v1-3: Nahash the Ammonite threatened Jabesh-Gilead. He wanted to put out their right eye as a reproach. The enemy always comes to disgrace, blind, and destroy. But God never leaves His people without a deliverer.

2. *The Cry for Help* v3-4: When the messengers came to Gibeah, all the people lifted up their voices and wept. God responds to desperate cries. When you run out of options, you’ve run into God’s hands.

3. *The Spirit of God Came Upon Saul* v6: "And the Spirit of God rushed upon Saul". God’s fight begins when His Spirit takes over. Human anger is weak, but Spirit-driven zeal brings victory.

4. *Decisive Action by Faith* v7: Saul cut oxen in pieces and sent them as a call to battle. Faith without action is dead. When God fights for you, He still expects you to move.

5. *Unity of God’s People* v7,11: The people came out "as one man" v7. They fought in 3 companies v11. God fights for united people, not divided camps.

6. *Divine Victory* v11: They struck down the Ammonites until the heat of the day. When God fights, the battle is short but the victory is total.

7. *Mercy After Victory* v13: Saul said "Not a man shall be put to death this day, for today the Lord has worked salvation". God’s battles end in grace, not revenge.

8. *Renewal of Purpose* v14-15: They went to Gilgal to renew the kingdom. After God fights for you, renew your covenant with Him.

*3. WHO ARE THOSE THAT GOD FIGHTS FOR?*
1. *The Helpless* - Jabesh-Gilead had no army. God specializes in impossible cases.
2. *The Covenant People* - They were Israelites. God fights for those in covenant with Him.
3. *Those Who Cry Out* - v4 says they lifted their voices and wept. God fights for desperate, praying people.
4. *Those Who Yield to the Spirit* - v6: The Spirit rushed upon Saul when he heard. God fights through surrendered vessels.
5. *The Righteous Cause* - They were defending the oppressed. God fights for justice.

*4. HOW TO OVERCOME THE BATTLE OF LIFE*
1. *Recognize the Battle is Not Yours* - 2 Chron 20:15 "The battle is not yours, but God’s"
2. *Cry Out to God in Prayer* - Like Jabesh-Gilead, lift your voice v4
3. *Allow the Spirit of God to Take Over* - v6. Don’t fight in flesh. Tarry until power comes.
4. *Take Steps of Faith* - Saul didn’t just pray, he acted v7. Obey God’s instruction.
5. *Reject Fear and Shame* - Nahash wanted to reproach them v2. Tell the devil: "No weapon formed shall prosper"
6. *Stay United with God’s People* - They came out as one man v7. Isolation weakens you.
7. *Give God the Glory* - v13,20. Saul gave God credit. Don’t steal God’s glory after victory.

*5. LESSONS TO LEARN FROM THE SERMON*
1. *No situation is too late* - They were given 7 days v3, but God still came through.
2. *God uses ordinary people* - Saul was just a farmer when the Spirit came v5.
3. *Divine anger is holy* - The Spirit kindled righteous anger v6, not bitterness.
4. *Victory comes with responsibility* - After winning, they renewed the kingdom v14.
5. *God turns reproach to rejoicing* - From "gouge our eyes" v2 to "rejoiced greatly" v15.

*6. CONCLUSION*
Child of God, what is that "Nahash" threatening you today? Sickness? Debt? Delay? Barrenness? Stop fighting alone.

1 Samuel 11:6 shows us: when the Spirit of God falls upon you, the battle ends. Your part is to cry out like Jabesh-Gilead, surrender like Saul, and obey like Israel.

God is still looking for vessels He can rush upon today. Will you be that vessel.

1. Introduction

There was a young girl named Hagar who washed dishes in a palace kitchen. Every day she watched queens walk by in robes of gold, making decisions, carrying influence. But Hagar’s job was behind a door, out of sight. She believed her story didn’t matter. One day a fire broke out in the palace. The queens were safe in the garden, but the fire started near the kitchen. Everyone forgot Hagar was there. She had two choices: stay hidden and be consumed by smoke, or run out the back door into the courtyard where no servant belonged. Her heart pounded. “If I step out, I’ll be seen. I’ll be questioned. I won’t fit.” But if she stayed, she would die unseen.

Hagar chose to step out. In the courtyard, a guard saw her, pulled her to safety, and for the first time in her life, someone looked her in the eye and said, “I see you.”

That’s Genesis 16. Hagar had fled into the wilderness, hiding from Sarah and Abraham after being mistreated. She sat by a spring, nameless, forgotten, pregnant and afraid. Then the Angel of the Lord found her. God didn’t tell her to stay hidden. He told her to go back, but this time as a woman with a promise. And Hagar discovered something life-changing: _El Roi_ - “The God who sees me.”

Church, many of us are sitting by our own “wells” today. We’re hiding in shame, fear, past mistakes, or the lie that we’re too small to matter. But God is at the well. Purpose is not found in hiding. Purpose is found when you step out and let the God who sees you, send you.

2. What Does It Mean to Step Out From Hiding and Into Purpose?

Stepping out from hiding means moving from fear and obscurity into obedience and visibility. “Hiding” is self-protection, shame, delay, and silence. “Purpose” is God’s assignment for your life. To step out is to say: “God, I won’t let my past, my pain, or my insecurities keep me from the call You placed on me.” Like Hagar, it means leaving the wilderness of self-pity and walking back into the place God assigned you, but now with His promise and His presence.

3. Benefits of Stepping Out

1. *You encounter God personally*: Hagar met _El Roi_. Hidden people don’t get revelations. Seekers do.
2. *Your identity becomes clear*: God renamed Hagar’s son Ishmael - “God hears.” Purpose gives you a new name.
3. *You break the cycle of fear*: Hiding feeds fear. Obedience starves it.
4. *You become visible to destiny helpers*: No one can help what they can’t see. Stepping out puts you on God’s radar and man’s radar.
5. *You gain divine protection*: God’s promise to Hagar was “I will increase your descendants.” Purpose attracts covering.
6. *You bring hope to others*: Hagar’s story encourages every “unseen” person that God sees them too.
7. *You experience spiritual growth*: Wilderness keeps you small. Purpose stretches your faith.
8. *You fulfill your assignment*: Gifts buried in hiding never bless the world. Purpose releases impact.

4. What Makes One to Be Hidden

1. *Shame from past mistakes*: Like Adam in Genesis 3, we hide when we feel exposed.
2. *Fear of rejection*: Hagar fled because of Sarah’s harshness. Fear of “no” keeps us silent.
3. *Low self-esteem*: “I’m just a servant” - believing you have nothing to offer.
4. *Unhealed wounds*: Abuse, betrayal, and neglect teach you that invisibility is safer.
5. *Comparison*: Looking at others’ “palace robes” makes your “kitchen work” feel worthless.
6. *Spirit of delay*: “I’ll step out when I’m ready/qualified/perfect.” That day never comes.
7. *Intimidation by authority*: Hagar hid from Abraham and Sarah. Some hide because of strong voices around them.
8. *Lack of revelation*: Hagar didn’t know God saw her until He spoke. Ignorance keeps us in caves.

5. 7 People in the Bible Who Stepped Out

1. *Moses* - From hiding in Midian as a shepherd to confronting Pharaoh. Exodus 3
2. *Esther* - From hiding her Jewish identity to saying “If I perish, I perish” for her people. Esther 4:16
3. *David* - From hiding in the fields to stepping out against Goliath. 1 Samuel 17
4. *Ruth* - From hiding in Moab as a widow to stepping into Boaz’s field for provision. Ruth 2
5. *Zacchaeus* - From hiding in a tree due to shame to coming down and hosting Jesus. Luke 19
6. *Peter* - From hiding after denying Christ to preaching at Pentecost. Acts 2
7. *Hagar herself* - From hiding by the spring to returning with a promise and a prophetic word. Genesis 16:9-10

6. What Can Hinder Someone From Stepping Out

1. *Spirit of fear* - 2 Timothy 1:7. Fear paralyzes more than failure does.
2. *Unforgiveness* - Hagar had to go back to Sarah. Bitterness chains you to the wilderness.
3. *Wrong company* - People who mock your dream will keep you hidden.
4. *Waiting for perfect conditions* - Ecclesiastes 11:4. If you wait for perfect weather, you’ll never plant.
5. *Comfort zone* - The wilderness is painful, but it’s familiar. Purpose is uncomfortable.
6. *Lies of the enemy* - “You’re too old, too young, too broken, too late.”
7. *No prayer life* - Hagar heard God at the well because she was desperate enough to listen.

7. Conclusion

Hagar named the well _Beer Lahai Roi_ - “the well of the Living One who sees me.” God is still at wells today. He’s at the well of your disappointment, your delay, your desert. He’s not calling you to stay hidden. He’s calling you to step out with the same promise He gave Hagar: “I will multiply you.”

You were not created to die in the wilderness of hiding. You were created to carry a name, a word, and a purpose that only you can fulfill. The God who saw Hagar sees you. The question is: Will you step out?

*Altar Call/Response*: Today, like Hagar, leave the well of hiding. Step out. Let God rename your pain to purpose. Let Him see you, speak to you, and send you.
