DAILY DEVOTIONAL

TOPIC: THIS TIME I WILL PRAISE THE LORD

TEXT:GENESIS 29 VS 31 -35

MEMORY VERSE:
"This time I will praise the Lord." So she named him Judah.
- Genesis 29 vs 35.

Regardless of the arrangement, Leah was the first wife of Jacob while Rachael was the second.

Rachael was the most preferred of those who gave Jacob children.

Unfortunately, Leah was not only loved, she was actually hated, this was a merger that was based on business, rather than on emotional agreement.

This made her to do everything to please her husband who preferred the arms of her junior
sister.

It was a difficult thing to get her husband to notice her but God favored her each time the husband performed his conjugal rights on her.

When she gave birth to Reuben, she believed Jacob will love her for giving him a son. Alas it did not work.

She called the second child Simeon because she knew that she was hated by the husband and the sister who at this time had no child.

Acting on the strength of giving birth to three sons, she looked to getting back her husband and she called him Levi.

She was hated the more because her excess exposed the lack of her sister.

She soon conceived again and bore another son.

By now she has learnt her lesson never to man again for happiness but to God.

She called the child, Judah.

She said "This time l will praise the Lord".

She left everything to look up to God when you look up to God, He will give you joy.

This joy will produce happiness and the life of the person will be good.

But You look up to man for happiness by giving you children, cars, houses or jobs the happiness may not last and sorrow may follow instead of joy.

Joy lasts longer than happiness, it rejoices on things received from God and not from man, therefore it will last than the happiness a man gives you

CHALLENGE:
Look up to God, not to man.

PRAYER:
My Faith looks up to you O Lamb of God in Jesus Christ name. Amen

TUESDAY 18TH OCTOBER 2022

TOPIC: HOW TO PRAY

TEXT: PHILIPPIANS 4:4 - 7

MEMORY VERSE: Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
- Philippians 4 vs 6.

Paul in the book of Philippians gave us a good way to pray to God.

His proposal is based on ensuring that every prayer point must be accompanied by thanksgiving.

Knowing fully well that God takes nothing from us, he explains that we need to package every of our prayer point with gratitude.

This serves two advantages; it shows our faith in the finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ, that in everything we ask, He will grant us.

The second is that it serves as a better way to carry our prayers to God.

After all whoever thank God for what He has done yesterday, He will gladly do many more.

Do not be the one who will ask every time without thanking the Master for what he has done and how far He has carried your life.

I want to know, when last did you declare a week of just thanksgiving to the One who has saved your life?

When last did you declare a three days prayer of just thanksgiving to the One who has saved your job?

When last did you declare a day of just thanksgiving to the One who gave you your health?

The list of the reasons to thank Him is endless.

You cannot even give an hour to thank Him.

All you do is for Him to protect you from your enemies, provide for you and make everything right for you.

This is the time you must go back to Him and ask for forgiveness of the sin of ingratitude.

Tell me, how will you feel when you provide a house for one who has no job, provide food for his family and pay the medical bills of the family, yet instead of thanking you for all you have done goes on demanding that you have not given him a good job. Think of this.

TOPIC: REJOICE IN THE LORD.

TEXT: PHILIPPIANS 4:4-7.

MEMORY VERSE: Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!- Philippians 4:4.

The world may hold nothing to rejoice about but, in the Lord, you have every reason to rejoice.

The world is such that there is happiness today, but sadness the next day.

There is money to buy a house but not a home.

There is money to buy a bed but not to sleep.

Many rich men have money at a time like this but cannot go out of the country because there is a lockdown.

Some are married but look for the fruit of the womb, while some are trying to get a hubby to marry.

Some who get a hubby is maltreated by the one they thought they love.

The world is upside down.

In today's passage, Paul, a prisoner encourages you and me to rejoice in spite of everything.

However, he insists that rejoicing only in the Lord and not in sin of drukenness or drudgery is what matters.

He goes on to say that the rejoicing is not only when we have something good happening to us alone, but when we are good or going through trying times we must rejoice always.

The root word of rejoice is the word joy.

Joy is the happiness that comes from inside, not from what we see.

So, let the joy of the Lord be your strength now and always.

Let the basis of your rejoicing as it is the only thing that will bring greater joy into your soul.

CHALLENGE:
Rise from the shackles of sadness now.

PRAYER:
I refuse to be sad in Jesus Christ name. Amen.

THANKSGIVING IN PRISON

TEXT:
PHILIPPLANS 1: 3 - 8

MEMORY VERSE:
Because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now -Philipplans 1:5

While writing the letter to the Philippians, Paul at no time hinted at the suffering he was going through.

This is a deep teaching for younger men/women of God who are just going into ministry.

Christ is the one who you are working for, not human beings.

Do not complain to man neither should you seek to ask for remunerations from those you are ministering to.

If and when they decide to give you anything, you can collect it but do not divert attention to how long you have been laboring over them.

Secondly, never complain of the pain you are going through, God knows when to pay you for services you are running for them.

Here, Paul was thanking God, not for protection over Paul in prison, but over the partnership he had with the Philippians in the gospel.

The gospel is the basis of his thanksgiving and by extension the human assistance he enjoys with people like the Philippians.

Look at how God has helped you in ministry thus far.

Thank the Lord for what he has done to preserve you.

Thank Him for His present acts in your life and thank Him for what He will do for you in future.

When you thank God, you will be able to see the purpose of your "imprisonment" of your lack, of your position in life, of your sickness and of your inabilities.

You will be able to appreciate those that God has raised to help you and how they will be useful for your gospel enterprise.

The more you thank God, the more, ít will be possible for you to have the capacity to bear the pain of your present position.

If I were you, I will thank Him for those things in the future with the joy that since I thank Him in faith, He will be faithful to give them to me.

CHALLENGE:
Thank Him for what you do not have with faith that you will have them.

PRAYER:
I thank you for the higher position, for cancelling my debts and making me better in Jesus Christ name. Amen

Thank you for your labour over the past three years.

Thank you for your commitment to the service of the Lord.

Thank you for your admonitions and counsels as a Man sent from God.

Thank you for the prayers, the vigils and the teachings.

Thank you for your portrayal of humility in service.

Thank you for giving your all.

Thank you for being a blessing to us.

As you step into another phase in ministry, we pray that God's guidance is upon you always.
Ministry continues to prosper in your hands. There's no better yesterday for you in ministry. Increase always. You keep walking in the supernatural. Your life is preserved now and ever. You're kept safe from evil and evil men.

Thank you for all you've done for us. Keep the fire burning in your new station.

PRAISE HIM IN THE MIDST OF YOUR SITUATION.

TEXT:
PSALM 117: 1 -2

MEMORY VERSE: For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord. Psalm 117: 2.

Psalm 117 happens to be in the center of the Bible.

It is number 595 chapter of the Bible with 594 chapters before it and another 594 chapters after it.

By the way the Bible consists of 1,189 chapters.

Aside from this it happens to be the shortest chapter of the Bible.

I believe that this has a divine origin in arrangement.

I also believe that it is so, so that we may be able to remember how to praise Him in the midst of our situation.

The glory is not in the beginning, the glory is actually in the end. You may have started well; it is good but it is better to end well.

You may have laid your hand upon a venture after due consultation with the Holy Spirit, yet the venture may be facing challenges of various kinds.

You may be facing such challenges like finance, health, space, marital, rentals or attacks from the enemies.

lt looks as if you did not seek the face of God at the beginning of the venture.

Everything may look dim, Never lose hope.

The river may be threatening, just remember that in the midst of the Bible is a chapter of praise. So, praise God in anticipation of a better tomorrow.

Praise Him because He will never desert you, Praise Him because you are alive, praise Him because the venture is not dead, even if it dies, still praise Him.

He who allowed it to die knows how to resurrect it. if it is not dead, He knows how to make it work.

He will revive it do not worry.

He is the Creator, He knows how to create a thing that do not exist, He knows what to do even when I am lamenting of the loss of my investment.

There may appear to be no reason to praise Him, do not allow your enemies to give you that impression.

Even in the face of court actions, in the face of debts or weakness lift up your head, smile and praise Him.

CHALLENGE:
Why are you cast down Oh my soul?

PRAYER:
Praise, glory and honor be unto you, my Father in Jesus Christ name. Amen
