TIV COMMUNITY OF KOFAI AMADU, TAKUM LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, TARABA STATE, NORTH-EAST NIGERIA STILL FACES CONTINUE ATTACKS DESPITE PEACE MEETING
Yesterday 28/5/2026 at about 4:00 PM, when the Amadu Market was at its peak with people moving around and carrying out their normal businesses, indigenous Tiv people and buyers from different ethnic groups, including Igbo, Hausa, Fulani, Kuteb, and others, were peacefully buying and selling. The community had gradually been recovering from the previous conflict between Fulani ethnic militia and the indigenous Tiv people.
Suddenly, people around the yam market began hearing gunshots coming from a nearby bush area. Farmers who had gone to their farms also started returning home in fear. As the gunshots continued, no one could immediately identify those behind the attack, and nobody directly accused the Fulani because some Fulani individuals were still present in the market at the time.
However, farmers returning from the bush later confirmed that the attackers were Fulani militia members. According to eyewitnesses, the armed men were sighted near the farm settlement, approximately 2 kilometres away from the market.
While people were still trying to understand the situation, another devastating development emerged. The co**se of a young Tiv boy was discovered; he had reportedly been killed by a gunshot.
The locals immediately informed the police, and security personnel responded promptly. At the time of their arrival, no armed Fulani person was seen fleeing the scene or found nearby.
As preparations were ongoing to recover the co**se, two Fulani men appeared from the direction of the incident without carrying weapons. The police became suspicious and moved after them. They were apprehended after allegedly attempting to deny involvement in the incident. Eyewitnesses, including farmers who reportedly witnessed the attack, identified the two men as those responsible for the killing.
The police subsequently arrested the suspects. Despite the tension, the Tiv community, as law-abiding citizens, maintained calm and order without disrupting activities in the town or market.
As of the time of filing this report, the police have not yet released any official statement regarding the incident. However, residents are anxiously waiting to see how the security agencies will ensure justice for the deceased and the Tiv community.
