DAILY CATHOLIC REFLECTION
WEDNESDAY, 22ND OCTOBER 2025
29TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR I
(Optional Memorial of St. John Paul II, Pope)
📖 Romans 6:12–18; Psalm 124:1–8; Luke 12:39–48

To whom much is given, much will be required.

God’s grace is a beautiful gift but carries a sacred responsibility. Every blessing, talent, and opportunity we have is a trust from God, and one day, He will ask how we used them.

St. Paul reminds us today that we have moved from death to life, from sin to grace. That means we can no longer live as slaves to sin but as servants of righteousness. Grace doesn’t excuse sin; it empowers holiness.

In the Gospel, Jesus calls us to be faithful and wise stewards. The faithful servant doesn’t wait for the master to return before working; he stays ready, ready means to live each day with purpose, honesty, and love, serving God and others faithfully.

Like St. John Paul II, whose memorial we celebrate today, let us be witnesses of hope, truth, and courage. He used his gifts and voice to lead others to Christ so must we.

Lord Jesus, help me to live faithfully every day. Teach me to use your gifts well, to serve with love, and to stay awake in spirit. Amen.

Grace is not freedom to relax its strength to remain faithful.

DAILY CATHOLIC READING
WEDNESDAY 22ND OCTOBER, 2025
29TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR 1
(Opt. Memorial of St John Paul II, Pp. )

FIRST READING
“Yield yourselves to God as men who have been brought from death to life.”
A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans (Romans 6:12-18)

Brethren: let not sin reign in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions. Do not yield your members to sin as instruments of wickedness, but yield yourselves to God as men who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments of righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! Do you not know that if you yield yourselves to any one as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.

The word of the Lord

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm124:1-3.4-6.7-8 (R. 8a)
R/. Our help is in the name of the Lord.

“If the LORD had not been on our side,”
let Israel say
“If the LORD had not been on our side
When men rose against us,
Then would they have swallowed us alive
When their anger was kindled.” R/.

Then would the waters have engulfed us,
The torrent gone over us;
Over our head would have swept the raging waters.”
Blest be the LORD who did not give us
A prey to their teeth! R/.

R/. Our help is in the name of the Lord.

Our life, like a bird, has escaped
From the snare of the fowler.
Indeed, the snare has been broken,
And we have escaped.
Our help is in the name of the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth. R/.

ALLELUIA Matthew 24:42a. 44
Alleluia. Watch, therefore, and be ready; the Son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect. Alleluia.

GOSPEL
“Every one to whom much is given, of him will much be required.”
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke (Luke 12:39-48)

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, “know this, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would have been awake and would not have left his house to be broken into. You also must be ready; for the Son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” Peter said, “Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for all?” and the Lord said, “who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master when he comes will find so doing. Truly I tell you, he will set him over all his possession. But if that servant says to himself, ‘my master is delayed in coming,’ and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink and get drunk, the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will punish him, and put him with unfaithful. And that servant who knew his master’s will, but did not make ready or act according to his will, shall receive a severe beating. But he who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, shall receive a light beating. Everyone to whom much is given, of him will much be required; and of him to whom men commit much they will demand the more.”

DAILY CATHOLIC READINGS
TUESDAY 21ST OCTOBER 2025
29TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

FIRST READING
“If, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned, much more will those who receive grace reign in life.”
A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans (Romans 5:12. 15b. 17-19. 20b-21)

Brethren: As sin came into the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all men sinned. For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift in the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many. If, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ. Then as one man’s trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one man’s act of righteousness leads to acquittal and life for all men. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by one man’s obedience many will be made righteous. Where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 40:7-8a. 8b-9. 10. 17 (R. 8a. 9a)
R/. See, I have come, Lord, to do your will.

You delight not in sacrifice and offerings,
but in an open ear.
You do not ask for holocaust and victim.
Then I said, “See, I have come.” R/.

In the scroll of the book it stands written of me:
“I delight to do your will, O my God;
Your instruction lies deep within me.” R/.

R/. See, I have come, Lord, to do your will.

Your justice I have proclaimed in the great assembly.
My lips I have not sealed; you know it, O Lord. R/.

O let there be rejoicing and gladness
for all who seek you.
Let them ever say, “The Lord is great,”
Who long for your salvation. R/.

ALLELUIA Luke 21:36
Alleluia. Watch at all times, praying that you may be able to stand before the Son of man. Alleluia.

GOSPEL
“Blessed are those servants whom. The master finds awake when he comes.”
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke (Luke 12:35-38)

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, “Let your loins be girded and your lamps burning, and be like men who are waiting for their master to come home from the marriage feast, so that they may open to him at once when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds wake when he comes; truly, I say to you, he will put on his apron and have them sit at table, and he will come and serve them. If he comes in the second watch, or in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those servants!”

FIRST READING

Jonah 3:10—4:11

When God saw what the people of Nineveh did, how they turned from their evil ways, God repented of the evil which he had said he would do to them; and he did not do it. But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was angry. And he prayed to the Lord and said, “I pray you, Lord, is not this what I said when I was yet in my country? That is why I made haste to flee to Tarshish; for I knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and repent of evil.”
And the Lord said, “Do you do well to be angry?” Jonah went out of the city and sat to the east of the city, and made a booth for himself there. He sat under it in the shade, till he should see what would become of the city. And the Lord God appointed a plant, and made it come up over Jonah, that it might be a shade over his head, to save him from his discomfort. So Jonah was exceedingly glad because of the plant. But when dawn came up the next day, God appointed a worm which attacked the plant, so that it withered. When the sun rose, God appointed a scorching east wind, and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah so that he was faint. And he asked that he might die, and said, “It is better for me to die than to live.” But God said to Jonah, “Do you do well to be angry for the plant?” And he said, “I do well to be angry, angry enough to die.” And the Lord said, “You pity the plant, for which you did not labour, nor did you make it grow; which came into being in a night, and perished in a night. And should not I pity Nineveh, that great city, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand persons who do not know their right hand from their left, and also much cattle?”

The word of the Lord

RESPONSORIAL PSALM – Psalm 98:1–6 (R. v.2b)

R/. The Lord has shown his deliverance to the nation. or All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

1. O sing a new song to the Lord,
for he has worked wonders.
His right hand and his holy arm
have brought salvation. (R.)

2. The Lord has made known his salvation,
has shown his deliverance to the nations.
He has remembered his merciful love
and his truth for the house of Israel. (R.)

3. All the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation of our God.
Shout to the Lord, all the earth;
break forth into joyous song, and sing out your praise. (R.)

4. Sing psalms to the Lord with the harp,
with the harp and the sound of song.
With trumpets and the sound of the horn
raise a shout before the King, the Lord.

SECOND READING

Ephesians 3:2–12

Brethren: I assume that you have heard of the stewardship of God’s grace that was given to me for your sake, how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I have written briefly. When you read this you can perceive my insight into the mystery of Christ, which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; that is, how the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the Gospel.
Of this Gospel I was made a minister according to the gift of God’s grace which was given me by the working of his power. To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to make all men see what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things; that through the Church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places. This was according to the eternal purpose which he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and confidence of access through our faith in him.

The word of the Lord

ALLELUIA

Alleluia, alleluia!
Go and make disciples of all nations, says the Lord;
I am with you always, to the end of the age.
Alleluia! (cf. Matthew 28:19–20)

GOSPEL

Luke 24:44–53

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, “These are my words which I spoke to you, while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you; but stay in the city, until you are clothed with power from on high.”
Then he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. While he blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven. And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple blessing God.

DAILY CATHOLIC READING
FRIDAY 17 OCTOBER, 2025
MEMORIAL OF ST IGNATIUS OF ANTIOCH B. M.

FIRST READING
Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.
A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans (Romans 4:1-8)

Brethren: What shall we say about Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh? For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.” Now to one who works, his wages are not reckoned as a gift but as his due. And to one who does not work but trusts him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness. So also David pronounces a blessing upon the man to whom God reckons righteousness apart from works: “Blessed are those whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not reckon his sin.”

The word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 32: 1-2.5.11 (R. 7)
R/. You are a hiding place for me,
you surround me with cries of deliverance.

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven,
whose sin is remitted.
Blessed the man to whom the Lord imputes no guilt,
in whose spirit is no guile. R/.

To you I have acknowledged my sin;
my guilt I did not hide.
I said, “I will confess my transgression to the Lord.
And you have forgiven the guilt of my sin. R/.

Rejoice in the Lord, exult you just!
Ring out your joy, all you upright of heart! R/.

ALLELUIA Psalm 33:22
Alleluia. May your merciful love be upon us, as we hope in you, O Lord. Alleluia.

GOSPEL
Even the hairs of your head are all numbered.
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke (Luke 12:1-7)

At that time: When so many thousands of the multitude had gathered together that they trod upon one another, Jesus began to say to his disciples first, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. Whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed upon the housetops. “I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear him! Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.

FIRST READING
A man is justified by faith apart from works of law.
A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans (Romans 3:21-30)

Brethren: Now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from law, although the law and the prophets bear witness to it, the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction; since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, they are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as an expiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins; it was to prove at the present time that he himself is righteous and that he justifies him who has faith in Jesus. Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On the principle of works? No, but on the principle of faith. For we hold that a man is justified by faith apart from works of law. Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, since God is one; and he will justify the circumcised on the ground of their faith and the uncircumcised through their faith.

The word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIALPSALM Psalm130:1-2.3-4.5-6ab (R.7bc)
R/. With the Lord there is mercy, in him is plentiful redemption.

Out of the depths I cry to you; O Lord;
Lord, hear my voice!
O let your ears be attentive
To the sound of my pleading. R/.

If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities,
Lord, who could stand?
But with you is found forgiveness,
that you may be revered. R/.

R/. With the Lord there is mercy, in him is plentiful redemption.

I long for you, O Lord,
My soul longs for his word.
My soul hopes in the Lord
More than watchmen for daybreak. R/.

ALLELUIA John 14:6
Alleluia. I am the way, and the truth, and the life, says the Lord; no one comes to the Father but by me. Alleluia.

GOSPEL
The blood of the prophets will be required, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah.
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke (Luke11:47-54)

At that time: Jesus said, “Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets whom your fathers killed. So you are witnesses and consent to the deeds of your fathers; for they killed them, and you build their tombs. Therefore also the Wisdom of God said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and persecute,’ that the blood of all the prophets, shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, it shall be required of this generation. Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge; you did not enter yourselves, and you hindered those who were entering.” As he went away from there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to press him hard, and to provoke him to speak of many things, lying in wait for him, to catch him in something he might say.

FIRST READING
“Although they knew God they did not honour him as God.”
A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans (Romans 1:16-25)

Brethren: I am not ashamed of the gospel: it is the power of God for salvation to every one who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written, “He who through faith is righteous shall live.” For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and wickedness of men who by their wickedness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. Ever since the creation of the world his invisible nature, namely, his eternal power and deity, has been clearly perceived in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse; for although they knew God they did not honour him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking and their senseless minds were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man or birds or animals or reptiles. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonouring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever! Amen.

The word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM psalm 19:2-3. 4-5 (R. 2a)
R/. The heavens declare the glory of God.

The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the firmament proclaims the work of his hands.
Day unto day conveys the message,
and night unto night imparts the knowledge. R/.

No speech, no word, whose voice goes unheeded;
their sound goes forth through all the earth,
their message to the utmost bounds of the world. R/.

ALLELUIA Hebrews 4:12
Alleluia. The word of the Lord is living and active, discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Alleluia.

GOSPEL
“Give alms; and behold, everything is clean for you.”
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke (Luke 11:37-41)

At that time: While Jesus was speaking, a Pharisee asked him to dine with him; so he went in and sat at table. The Pharisee was astonished to see that he did not first wash before dinner. And the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside you are full of extortion and wickedness. You fools! Did not he who made the outside make the inside also? But give for alms those things which are within; and behold, everything is clean for you.”

Something Greater Is Here — Will You Recognise Him?

We live in an age that constantly demands proof of love, proof of power, even proof of God. Yet, like the people of Jesus’ time, we often fail to recognise the greatest sign already before us: Jesus Christ Himself.
In the first reading, Saint Paul reminds us that through Christ, we have received grace and apostleship a mission to bring others to the obedience of faith. This is our shared calling as Christians: to make Christ known, not by mere words, but by how we live.
The psalmist (Psalm 98) sings joyfully, “The Lord has made known his salvation.” God’s wonders are not hidden; His love is visible in every act of mercy, every answered prayer, every new day. Our gratitude should be loud and our lives should be songs of praise!

In the Gospel, Jesus calls out a generation that keeps asking for signs. He says, “No sign will be given except the sign of Jonah.” The people of Nineveh repented at Jonah’s preaching, but here stands Someone far greater, Christ Himself, and many still refuse to listen.
Today, He asks us: Do you still look for miracles while ignoring My presence in the Eucharist, in My Word, and in one another?
In our search for “signs and wonders,” let’s remember that faith is not built on spectacles but on surrender. The true sign of God’s power is a changed life a heart that listens, obeys, and walks humbly with Him.

LIFE LESSONS
1 ️ Faith starts with obedience to God’s word.
2 ️ Stop chasing signs the greatest sign is already here: Christ.
3️Tell the world what God has done for you.
4 ️ Look for Jesus in the ordinary moments of life.
5 ️ Let your life sing: “The Lord has made known His salvation!”

🙏 Lord Jesus, help me to see You in my daily life and to obey You in faith. May my life proclaim Your salvation to all nations. Amen.

Through Christ we received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith among all the nations.
The beginning of the Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans (Romans 1:1-7)

Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, the gospel concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh and designated Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations, including yourselves who are called to belong to Jesus Christ; to all God’s beloved in Rome, who are called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

“No sign will be given to this generation. Except the sign of Jonah.”
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke (Luke 11:29-32)

At that time: When the crowds were increasing, Jesus began to say, “This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of Jonah. For as Jonah became a sign to the men of Nineveh, so will the Son of man be to this generation. The queen of the South will arise at the judgement with the men of this generation and condemn them; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here. The men of Nineveh will arise at the judgement with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.”

“THE ONE WHO HEALS LEPERS IS AMONGST US”

We are all “l***rs” healed by mercy.
Naaman, the proud Syrian general, was humbled and healed when he obeyed the word of God through Elisha.
Once a persecutor, Paul was healed by Christ’s grace and became a tireless apostle.
And in the Gospel, ten l***rs were healed, but only one, a Samaritan, returned to give thanks.

Jesus still asks today:
👉 “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine?”
We are often quick to call on God in distress but slow to return in gratitude. Gratitude perfects the miracle, it turns healing into salvation. The same Jesus who healed then still heals today: in the Eucharist, Confession, and in every humble heart that remembers to say, “Thank You, Lord.”
Be the one l***r who remembers. Gratitude is the mark of true faith.

🙏 Lord Jesus, You who heal the broken and restore the lost, teach me to be humble and thankful. May I never forget Your goodness, but live each day in joyful gratitude. Amen.
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you”( 1 Thess. 5:18).
