WHY THE STORM WAS ALLOWED
(Bible – Mark 4:35–41)
The storm was not a mistake.
It was not an interruption.
It was not an attack that caught God off guard.
It was allowed.
That’s uncomfortable but necessary.
Jesus said,
“Let us go over to the other side.” (Mark 4:35)
Not “let us try.”
Not “if nothing happens.”
He spoke destination…
before the storm showed up.
And here is the tension:
The same Jesus who led them into the journey…
Also allowed the storm on the way.
That means this:
Not every storm is from disobedience.
Some storms happen in the middle of obedience.
The disciples didn’t miss God.
They followed Him…
and still faced resistance.
The storm was not sent to destroy them.
It was allowed to reveal them.
Fear spoke louder than faith.
Panic exposed what was still unformed inside them.
Because storms have a way of doing that.
They reveal:
what you believe
what you trust
what you fear
And notice this:
Jesus didn’t panic with them.
He let the situation reach its peak…
Then He stood up and spoke:
“Peace, be still.” (Mark 4:39)
If Jesus stopped every storm immediately…
You would never know if your faith is real.
Faith is not built in comfort.
It is forged in pressure.
Some things you’re praying against…
God is actually using.
That delay.
That pressure.
That uncertainty.
It may not be punishment.
It may be development.
But here’s the deeper gospel:
The greatest storm was never on water.
It was the storm of sin, judgment, and separation.
And Jesus didn’t calm that storm…
He stepped into it.
He took it fully on the cross.
So that you would never be destroyed by what should have overwhelmed you.
The storm was allowed.
But it was never in control.
God was.
And He still is.
