SUNDAY WORSHIP || 16th Aug., 2026
📖
👉Topic: Effective People
👉Text: Colossians 4:2–18
👉Aim: To understand how believers can become effective Christians through prayer, wise conduct, gracious speech, encouragement, and support for others.
👉Memory Verse: Colossians 4:6 — “Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”
👉Introduction
An effective Christian is not merely someone who knows the Word of God, but someone whose life positively impacts others. Paul, writing while facing challenges, encouraged believers to remain committed to prayer, conduct themselves wisely, speak graciously, and support one another.
1. Be Steadfast in Prayer — Colossians 4:2–4
Paul instructed believers to devote themselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. He also asked them to pray for him so that he would have opportunities and boldness to proclaim the Gospel.
👉Lesson: Effective people understand that prayer is not an occasional activity. They pray consistently, remain spiritually alert, and remember others in their prayers.
2. Walk Wisely Towards Outsiders — Colossians 4:5
Paul encouraged believers to conduct themselves wisely toward those who are not Christians and to make the most of every opportunity.
Lesson: Our behaviour is part of our witness. People should see Christ not only in what we preach but also in how we treat others, handle difficult situations, and respond to unbelievers.
3. Let Your Speech Be Gracious — Colossians 4:6
Our words should be gracious and seasoned with salt. This means our speech should be kind, wise, appropriate, and capable of giving the right response at the right time.
👉Lesson: An effective Christian does not use words carelessly. We should avoid abusive, destructive, or unnecessarily harsh speech and instead use our words to build, encourage, correct, and point people to Christ.
4. Effective People Support Others — Colossians 4:7–18
Paul mentioned several of his fellow workers, including Tychicus and Onesimus, who served faithfully and brought encouragement to others. He also mentioned other co-workers who supported him in ministry.
👉Lesson: Nobody becomes effective alone. Effective Christians encourage one another, provide practical support, remain faithful in service, and stand with others during difficult times.
5. Stand With Those Facing Persecution
The lesson particularly challenges the church to support believers who suffer because of their faith. Support may come through prayer, encouragement, practical assistance, and standing with them in love.
🙏Final Life Application
Being an effective Christian is about making our faith visible through our daily lives.
A truly effective person does not only ask, “What can I gain?” but also, “Whom can I encourage, support, and lead closer to Christ?”
